While this isn't my rack, it's one I'd like to put together for our school, 2 File servers, 2 Terminal servers, 1 exchange server, 2 app servers, twin Big IP Load balancers, 4x 48 port Gig-e 3Com layer 3 switches. (1 back up sw).

Not bad, Nice F5's... used them quite a bit myself. I also see a few [old] 2650's.. I have 10 of those for my esx sandbox:p

Why did you mspaint what looks like switches?

Well, as promised.... let the whoring begin

the original point of the reconstruction was the re-attach the door. I had my pops help me rebuild the subframe to attach the door too, worked out very well :D

This is what the physical and virtual network look like. Im pretty sure I captured everything except for the virtualized cisco equipment(that's all dynamically built anyway;))

Let me know what you guys think about the diagram(im also going to be posting these in the other threads too).

Yes, to a degree. You should have also read that NAS is supported over NFS. Ive done all of them. Currently im using the LSI SATA megaraid card, which uses the same SCSI driver as the LSI scsi card. You can hop on vmtn and check it out, there a few other sata cards that work as well

could i just use an iscsi target on openfiler? this would be usefull as it is allready a production machine

yes, you can definitely do this. You like openfiler? I didn't like it so much, took me a few hrs to get everything setup and configured properly under ESX with NFS yet it only took me literally 30 minutes from start to finish with FreeNAS. I prefer FreeNAS. Openfiler does have a sexy interface though.

i wasnt to happy with the setting up of the user accounts etc. was a right pain in the arse to connect to and the iscsi target took hours to setup. i was just thinking that iscsi would be faster then nfs but im just guessing. If freenas works fine i will go with that.

what are the specs of your esx server?

thanks

Well if you ever look to unload some equipment, I know a school that would love to give you a tax right off! (lol)

You using the newer version of CAM for that storagetek? What do you think? Cant really make out which model that is, but we're running a 6140 with 2 jbod shelves loaded with 4gig FCC's.
