Pretty great game. My only gripe is that enemies have a red glow when they are taking damage. This feature pulls away from the immersion. (edit: this only happens when you play on easy difficulty. crank it up a notch and it doesn't happen.l) The game seems playable at 1440x900 on HIGH settings with my rig. It feels pretty smooth even at low framerates of ~25.

Here's some random screens. HIGH settings with rig in sig, 163.69 drivers. Compressed via photobucket.

This one is @ 1680x1050: (not too much of a performance hit relative to 1440x900)

640 per his sig.
The "optimal" settings for my GTS320 @ 1680x1050 is medium. Still looks fairly pretty. Maybe in the future Ill be able to crank it up...

Well im playing the demo with rez of 1024 x 768 with all settings set to medium ( detect ) and the game looks fantastic.

Well i guess ill go medium setting for the single player.

But... when it comes to multiplayer i need no eye candy it gets in the way of fragging you with your 10 fps looking for eyecandy in a multiplayer game lol.

Wow the game looks great  The stress it seems to be putting on current gen systems hasn't really been equaled in a game since Far Cry came out. Got mine downloading at 950k/s .. can't wait to play!

very true :D i guess i'll have to crank down my settings on my gtx....

Yeah, I tried 1920x1080 with everything high and I was getting like 10fps at best. I set everything to medium and I'm probably at 40'ish fps and the game looks good.
Anyone know how to get vsync except the Nvidia drivers? That switch in the drivers still leaves me with a little tearing as I'm playing on a TV. For some reason only game swtches truly get rid of it.

We have virtually identical systems, but I can't get the demo to run at all. I hear all the audio with no problems. The video is completely skewed and unwatchable Everything looks transparent. I don't get it. :(

that's strange. maybe try uninstalling your drivers, running DC, and reinstalling drivers. It ran fine for me with 169.01 beta drivers but i've reverted back to 163.69 cause i couldn't use rivatuner to OC with the newest betas. Are you using either of those drivers? Did you get a chance to try the beta before this?

Am I the only person that sees, with each new Crysis screenshot, how average it looks? I was expecting something groundbreaking, but it just looks more and more like FarCry with depth of field and a spiffy suit.

the graphics are the best we've seen yet from a game IMO, and it seems this is the consensus on forums. remember most people (like myself) are posting screenshots of the game at playable settings, not maxed out settings. Try the game out for yourself and see it in motion. If you play the demo and still don't think it looks great then maybe you've placed too high expectations on what this game will deliver.

game play wise it's really good, but not phenomenal. I still spent more time last night playing TF2 instead of the crysis demo. :D

1440x900 HIGH settings, DX9 this time. Game seems to run a lot better for me in DX9 (163.69 drivers):

I have a Core 2 Duo@3Ghz, a 8800GTS 640MB@625/1000, and 2 GB of ram, and windows XP Pro. I can play everything on High and it averages around 30FPS. I can't seem to play with AA on though very smoothly. Great game, I must buy. I don't know how playable it will be with DX10. Anyone know how it would play on my comp?

pretty much exactly how it plays on my comp. the first two sets of images i posted were DX10, the last set DX9. With the 163.69 drivers DX9 runs better.

How can you tell whether you're using DX9 or DX10 of the demo? I wonder if my problems are because I've got the DX10 version?

I've tried several drivers, most recently 169.01.

The game didn't seem to run that well for me. And to be honest, running on medium settings doesn't make the game look all that great either. Finished it, felt very much like Far Cry... but it seems that the suit powers were more of a novelty than anything. (I remember using the strength powerup to actually hit someone like once)

I'm running with a Q6600, 4GB DDR2 OCZ, P5k-deluxe, eVGA 8800GTS 320mb.

I ran the 64bit executable without checking dx10 settings or anything. Could that have been it?

Hey Porter. How well did it run with DX10? Is there much of a difference?

throwing the turtle looks fun. they should make a mini game about that...

Anyone else get the bug where after you alert an enemy and load a savegame then your fps goes to hell (>10fps)? I have to reload the saved game to get rid of it...

@1440x900 HIGH settings DX10 = ~25 fps average, DX9 = ~30 fps average. Just enough to cross the threshold of being playable (barely), so i'll probably play the full game through in DX9. Visually i didn't notice any difference between DX9 and DX10.

This is under Vista 32bit and using the 163.69 drivers, might be different with the 169.01 betas. I tried the betas but it wouldn't let me OC with rivatuner so i reverted back to 163.69. Any performance gain the drivers gave was outweighed by not being able to OC. Supposedly this issue will be fixed with rivatuner soon, so i'll change to 169.01 when that happens and *hopefully* get a 10% performance boost.

Oh ok, cool. Thanks for the reply!

Looks incredible. Hopefully Crytek optimize it a little more before the retail comes out.

i wouldn't count on it. I think once the demo comes out they've squeezed out as much performance as they're going to.

I doubt it. I don't think it will really be optimized until the release of several patches.

mabye...but that would be AFTER the retail comes out. original question was regarding optimization before the retail is released.

some more random shots @ 1440x900, HIGH settings, DX9

chicken tossin'...not as fun as turtle tossin' but still fun nonetheless

when the pistol is out of ammo the slide remains pulled back. probably already done in other games, but i still found it cool. good attention to detail by the devs.

Awesome Porter.

1) my beef: if he got superarmor on, why is there blood splatter?
2) long barrel weapons adds accuracy. then, why can't I do headshots at less than 50 meters on Logitech G5's highest setting?

Plays like FarCry with new prescription glasses.

Now that I can play Crysis, I have to agree with those who think it's a lot like Far Cry. It's almost Far Cry 2. I think someone called it FC 1.5. Still, the game is fun and exciting, so it's now on my must buy list along with COD4 and The Witcher.

On a side note, I'm very pleased that Far Cry 2 will be set in Africa. It'll be nice to play in a new environment that's not located in an island chain.

I'm just as excited for COD4 as i am Crysis. I agree about the african setting of Far Cry2...will be a nice change of pace.

^^ If you toss a grenade next to the boat it should (not always due to the physics) flip back over. It worked for me. Physics are another reason I am going to love this game.

... and on my free African safari I want to do everything on this box. I want to shoot a lion in the face, fight Muhammad Ali, and ride in a convertible with two happy zebras.
