Enemy Territory: Quake War have you tried it?

I have been playing the game daily for a week.
But I have yet to try to play online, my logic is that it's a big game and a lot of team work is needed and its important to know the Maps. I have been having some great matches with the Expert AI bots (Smart bastards!). I play as an engineer a lot and really enjoy the role. You are the Defense of your team, so on map where you are assulting it's best to be something else like a soldier.

I think I will start tring to find a good server tonight.

i always play engie unless some other class is needed. hell i've always played engie since RTCW. always been my favorite class because its always needed. whether its for defense, repairing turrets and vehicles, building objectives, attack/support roles, etc. its just too bad you can't plant the explosives anymore. i guess they wanted to give the soldier class a more starring role in the game other than for heavy weapons offense/defense. its turned out quite well though.

nice to see how its evolved as well...

RTCW: You'd be fine just having a team of field ops, engies and medics to complete objectives
ET: Add the covert ops class to steal a uni and get in that door you need to get into. then he can blow up one of the other objectives while the rest of the team moves up to the main objective
ETQW: Gotta use everyone this time around to get anything done pretty much. cops to deploy radar/hack objectives, engies to deploy defense turrets/build objectives, field ops to deploy offensive turrets/give ammo, medic to revive/give health/deploy supply drop, soldier to blow shit up lol

Same as me. In the original ET, I usually played with both Medic and Engineer, but mostly Engineer. In QW, it's almost always Engineer, except when there's a class missing. Medic in QW is highly underrated and, especially when defending, it's a must have class.

And you're right. Everything is much more balanced now. IN the original ET, a very good player, would make a difference and most of the times, could even win a few games, regardless of his/her class. With QW, a good player makes a difference, but can hardly win a game or the team. It's really a team effort this time.
I'm having a blast with this game, even more than I had with the original ET.

It's a bit disappointing that the community is dying already, but it's still hella fun when you have a competent team.

Dying ? It's not dying. It's very rare that I play on the same server and still, the server I pick, I almost always full or reaching its capacity.

i usually pick full servers to play on. and they usually stay full even after a campaign ends which is nice. i highly doubt its dying.

ha, community ain't dying what you are seeing are the BF* who went for the game cause "they want teamwork" only to be exposed to teamwork and actual objectives not to mention they cannot be a one-man-army and they have to actually rely on their team todo something (as opose to the take&hold style of BF* and they then just defend "their" flag")

a few member of a clan I am friendly with ( a BF2 clan) apsolutly hated the game and sent it to a 2nd hand shop, their resoning "a poor ripoff if BF2/142). The though that BF2 actually ripped of RTCW first didn't cross their minds

The rest of the clan who were more flexable in their gaming likes love the game completly!!!

the game was released later then optimum (ie missed the summer hols) but wait for the Xmas hols and it will start to ramp up in usage (but still 30k online out of 120k registered aint bad since launch. Seems to have peaked... for now). Also the SDK aint out yet. Just wait for that, quite a few maps have been layed out (goto #splashdamage and ask around) BUT the SDK is needed to script the maps. It was the community maps that kepts RTCW and ET going for as long as they did and with sooo much capability w.r.t. objectives and teamwork in this game the custom-maps are gonna make this game like it did with the others

Can't wait for the SDK and to see the awesome new maps the modding community creates. This series has top notch dev/fan support.

New patch coming soon.

We couldn't have hoped for better reviews for our first ever retail game - over 30 publications and counting have scored the game at 90% or over, while we've achieved thirteen more awards from those same reviewers which brings ETQW's award and nomination count to over 50! On the retail front ETQW debuted in the US and the UK and immediately snatched the number 1 slot in the PC game charts of both countries. We're delighted, but don't have much time to hoot about it - the entire Splash Damage development team is still completely occupied with ongoing support of ETQW for the PC. It is less than a month since the game's retail release and we're almost ready with the next feature-packed update. Here's an overview:

*Full Voice Communications Support

*Better Game Balancing

*Refined Fireteams and StopWatch Mode

*User Interface Improvements

*Bot Fixes and Improvements

*Miscellaneous Features and Bug Fixes

sweet... not that I can complain about the balancing, never have I found a single class feel underpowered or useless in ET.

Is it me or does anyone recall back in the RTCW ET days that if a spy stole a uniform to disguise themselves, the uniform would be missing off the body thus hinting to the other team that there may be a spy amongst them? Kinda miss that in QW ET...

I'm a sucker for persistent stats and what not. (sports games, BF2, RPGs, etc.) Is there something like that in QW? I enjoy the gameplay but I'd like something to hang my hat on at the end of the day if you know what I mean. ;)

Yep, they have persistant stats, but you dont get unlocks from them. But if you play a campaign, there are skill and weapon upgrades as you rank up. Those come from the server your on and reset after the campaign is over, unless the server has xp save turned on.
Here is the page for persistant stats:

Gamespy stats on the game are kinda disappointing. There are more people playing Quake 3 than ETQW according to it. Then again, the masses have never been a great indicator of quality.

Got my free copy from EVGA, haven't had a chance to play it though. I liked the demo of this more than Crysis however so I have a feeling I will enjoy the full game.

hey there guys, if you're looking for a competitive ET:QW team to join, send a msg to nt1 on xfire. We practice pretty much every night.

Theres eomthing about this game I didn't like when I tried the beta's. I have a free copy coming from EVGA so I'm gonna give it an honest 1 week tryout but so far it just dosen;t seem like my game of choice. Forutanny my clan agree's with me lol, were all waiting for COD4 now.

But honestly I hope I get into this game as it does look fun I just don't seem to enjoy playing it lol.

once most people get the hang of it, their opinion changes. it has a lot of depth to it if you ask me. there are usually multiple ways to get things done for each map (not including driving the MCP to where it needs to go as you can really only go one way with that).

ET:QW is like the slow ass turtle. It may be slow to catch on with the gaming community, but its getting there. WET had the same problem and it was free.

Well it'll probably catch on with me 'cause it came free with my 8800GT. :D

Acctually the fact that mine came free with purchase would more likely hurt my chances of liking it. If I know I didn;t pay for it, and that im not losing out on money by not playing it then im not gonna try and force my self to get into it as much.

haha...the 360 version was featured on Scrubs tonight. was just the footage from the trailer though but thats ok lol. they showed CoD2 on the Office as well not too long ago :)

I'm getting two copies tomorrow free with my pair of eVGA 8800GT KO 512MB cards for SLI, so I'll be trying it out myself... the demo looked like it had a lot of potential but I didn't give it enough time to really see the depth fully I don't think :).

I got the game with my 8800GT KO, but there is something wrong and the game doesn't run very well no matter what. I updated to ver 1.2, but at 800x600 or 1920x1080 it only gets 7 fps. I don't know whats up, my other games run fine.

I didn't like any of the Quake series really.

But the more I play it the more I'm liking it. Tons of strategy, but still a fun shooter just like the original Wolf:ET.

I've found that finding a good server is key to enjoying QW.
If you get into most random pubs where no one is working together, it can be a very frustrating experience.

That being said, here's my favorite server.

http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/64.34.195.66:27733/

http://www.tacticalgamer.com/

Tactical Gamer is all about teamwork and maturity in all their servers, and it's slowly carrying itself over to QW.
Since the game is still new of course there are still some off nights, but its happening more and more where we have some really really fun games.

i found a good server on the west coast. i keep thinking it says "old farts" or "old school" in the title or something. anyway, the medics actually revive you there. i have SO many tap outs because no one seems to revive on shitty pubs. but this night i got plenty of revives. we still lost though. :(

Yep, thats the Old Farts Clan, they are old school WET guys. I always enjoyed playing on their server when I could get in.

This is true. Servers that have players that give a damn about winning (on each side) can have some very competitive and enjoyable games. However, sometimes there are players that are "too serious" and insult the people who are playing and can be real pricks as well as bossy. Then it turns into a worthless server.

It was posted earlier in the thread I think, but check to make sure you have disabled your second monitor in the Nvidia driver settings for gaming or something like that. It is a known problem with some setups. If you google enough you should be able to find the exact setting.
