Would haveing the z5500 Sub underneath my desk have any negative effects on my monitor ? I remember reading the warning notice that came with them stating to have it placed a distance of atleast 3 feet away. Im curious as to how you guys have yours positioned.

Should be fine. People say that it really doesn't matter how close it is to pc components.. But I say try to keep it as far as you can from the actual pc. I'm sure Logitech placed that warning for a reason...

Well I plan to move it underneath my ikea galant desk as I want to move my whole workstation closer to the wall. As for the distance from the PC itself, i would say there would be a 4ft distance between the two. I really dont ever have my speakers on, ony when I watch some movies. And even then the sub is on the lowest setting.

if your floor is carpet with padding then you can place it where ever it sounds best no matter how close your computer/monitor are. the magnets will not affect your computer in any way unless you have, maybe a tape drive or floppy. now if your floor is hardwood then the vibration needs isolating if near your computer. simple open cell foam (firm mattress pad) will cure this situation.

the warning is for crt monitors. these use a magnetic field to paint the image you see.

The sub will be placed on carpet. Its just that ive never seen a warning acompany speakers before. As a matter of fact I think I should have the warning sign laminated and put on display some where in my room.

Most speaker sets that include a sub will have it written somewhere in the manual that you should keep the subwoofer away from sensitive components due to the magnet/s.

Of course it has been proven time and time again that it's safe to have it sitting as close to your computer as you like.

I just wish someone would post a pic of their external hard drive sitting on top of the z-5500 sub to finally silence all this nonsense. (of course vibrations may kill it eventually...well...it'd be a more likely cause that the magnet)

Hard Drives are shielded but I would still not want magnets by them for no reason. Although who knows, maybe someone is still using floppies, and those would be wiped for sure!

True that, I belive the recommended distance is 3FT. I just had to make sure as I dont want to put my 30in baby in harms way :p .
