Ok i recently purchased this system hooked it up and it was all good until we plugged in an ipod and then we paused a song on the ipod itsself came back in and my unit had turned off there was no power going to the screen. We checked the fuse and that seemed fine. So i got a replacement for free but they didnt take back the old one so i have one atm which is abit faulty and i was wondering if anybody had the same sort of problem or could tell me any ideas on how to fix it ? If not does anybody know anything i could do with the speakers/sub so they arent wasted?

Instead of opening a new threaad ill try and explain again

Ok basically i had a Logitech Z-5500 and the main control unit broke on it. So i got it replaced. They never picked up the broken one and sent me a new one. So i have the sub and 5 speakers that work fine because i tested them with the new controller. I wanna be able to use the speakers and sub that are now spare for somthing so is it possible? It would be nice if i could get it hooked up in my car somehow or even in my living room as my room currently has the workign system. Please let me know! Someone said i could just hook it to an amp and it would work?

So...logitech sent you a brand new set of z-5500 speakers for free? Daaaamn...lucky.

The difficulty is that the amp isn't what's buggered in your unit, it's the control unit. You could hook it all up to another amp (disconnecting the amp that already comes with the sub) but you'd want to make sure that the wattages are the same or similar so that you don't fry the satellite speakers.

I'd recommend NOT putting the speakers in your car, they really aren't designed for it. You'll find that car speakers are quite rugged in comparison to home audio/computer speakers (to deal with things like being mounted in door panels which get slammed several times a day). Plus they probably won't be loud enough when you take into account things like road noise

nah they are loud enough, i just wanna know how i would hook up a amp to this. its meant to be 500watt rms

You can try keeping your eye on eBay to see if just the control pod comes up.

The satellites and center speakers should connect to any receiver fine so you could use them for your living room. Only issue is the sub, but every other piece could just be connected to any regular receiver.

Open up the control unit and see if you can detect the fault.

If it is a resistor/transistor that fried, google for it.

nah if you read correctly, he just said Logitech just sent him a new Control Pod for the Z5500 not a whole new system

Nah i got a whole new system, so i got 2x logitech z5500's but one of the control units dont work

I have had similar problems. First set just stopped working one day and my replacement set has just gone also.

From reading a bit online this seems to be a common problem with the Z5500. There seems to be a bit of conflicting information going about but quite a few folk have got it to work again by just replacing a fuse which is on the back of the sub (T2N fuse?). Not too up on electronics but I don't think you can tell whether it has blown or not just by looking at it so a multimeter might be handy. I haven't got a replacement fuse yet but will post results. I get a feeling they have put fuses in the Z5500 which are right at the limit so unless you have a surge protector I think even the slightest impedence in your building can blow them.

Hope this helps.

I just had the fuse go on my subwoofer, and I've only had the set for a few days! Anyway, I replaced it withh a glass, 2A, time-lag fuse (got 10 of them for £2.50 :D).

Can somebody link me please? Also i tested the sub on my new command console and it the command console still worked so would it be the fuse?

I'm not too sure where it is on their website because I just went to the store with the ceramic fuse that came in the subwoofer and they found me the appropriate fuse. This seems like it could be the same as what I bought, but the wire in mine are straight unlike the coiled ones shown in the picture.

From what I can gather I am pretty sure that the fuse went on your original system. I like you had z-5500 which died shortly after pluging in my mp3 player. I returned it straight away and got a replacement. Second set died after I had unplugged it to do some cleaning: it was at this point I tried replacing the fuse and all was well.

From looking around there are loads of z-5500 users who have had their speaker systems replaced due to the "dead control box". And I reckon 90% of these cases are due to a blown sub fuse: how does logitech keep affording to replace all these units!? Sounds to me you probably have 2 fully functional units..... oh well logitech's loss.
