I'm really getting tired of the back of these Ipods. Sure when it first comes out of the box it looks nice, but unless you get a bulky case, that shiny back is going to look like crap in a day.
I was hoping that this time around apple would at least make the touch have a back similar to the iPhone, but no luck. Sometimes I wonder if they keep using that fragile finish to drive case sales and keep the 3rd party accessory makers happy.
Besides using a case, are there any films or anything you guys recommend to keep it looking decent. On my last 5g iPod I gave up and stop caring about the scratches and whatnot.........

I also saw something on the internet while googling iPhone Accessories that was a thin film paint that you put on the back to "personalize" your iPhone I dont see why something like that could not be used. And there are thin cases out there that I have seen, you just have to do some searching. And yes, The mirror finish is for aesthetics as well as to help 3rd party accessory sales. :D

Give the InvisibleShield a try... Just a thin plastic film that covers the entire body and is practically indestructable. I have one on my iPod and couldn't be happier.

Or you could do what I did...and take some 800grit wet or dry sandpaper to it...gotta love the brushed metal finish:)

and who needs warranties anyway....:D

I tried one of these for my Nano when they first came out.

First, they are horribly overpriced for what you get. A small sheet of thin plastic with glue on it for $20?

Secondly, I got the full body-wrap version. I never did get it installed correctly.

In the end, it ended up in the trash can and chalked up to "oh well" :)

Actually, I don't believe that voids the warranty. ;)

well, if you sand off the serial number on the back and your ipod is damaged beyond reading the serial number via software (fairly likely if you're taking it for service), you can bet that apple ain't gonna do shit to help you out.

I have no complaints about the chrome finish. It shows finger prints -- big deal.

I give it a good once-over with the lint free cloth I got with a Cinema Display, and it's as right as rain. If you can't keep from scratching it the first day you get it, well, then perhaps you shouldn't be fooling around with $250/$350 pocket-sized gadgets in the first place.

I can't say I cared about the finish for more than five or so minutes, apart from using it to reflect strong light to tease cats.
