A beta of the game, not a beta for the functionality of Steam and the ability of their development team to operate under pressure, which is what this issue is a product of. This is not a result of the game being screwed up, it's a result of them screwing something up majorly.
 
same thing for everyone, figures valve cant get anything right today
 
I've read about and for those with issues still you should try joining servers straight from the game browser in steam, and/or loading the game with the launch option -window and then when in game going to options and changing to full screen.
 
Just played this for about an hour during my lunchbreak... what a fun game

Can't wait till 4:30 so I can go play some more :)
