Question on warranty of Maxtor hard drive - 1 year or 3 years

I just installed a hard drive about 3 days ago and it died today. It is a Maxtor 300gb SATA/150 16mb cache, Diamond Max 10, model # SL300S0. I bought it July 31, 2006

according to the instruction manual in the box, the warranty is 1 year

however, i recall hearing that after seagate acquired maxtor, they increased the warranty of all the maxtor drives to 3 years

but, i checked on the seagate warranty checker website, and it tells me my warranty expired July 31, 2007, only 1 year after I purchased it. Can someone explain this. thanks a lot.

They only increased the warranty of all Maxtor drives bought on or after October 1st 2006 and onward:

aw man i feared something like that. well i guess now i have something to throw at my neighbors loud barking dog that'll hopefully shut him up at 2AM. thanks for the link
