Is this $230 rosewill psu good?

I dunno what you hoping to run with 80 amp psu but that way too much overrated. A SLI GTX with qx6700 with like 2 hard drive consume about max 400w load. Unless you have like 10 hard drive, quad SLI ,2 CPU, 10 DVD drive you dont need this plus more technology come advanced, less power is require.

yeah even though I can get it for 100 dollars less I'm not going to get it because,

1) Its rosewill
2) I don't want blue leds
3) Its not modular

I'm going to go with a thermaltake toughpower instead.

But would a corsair hx 520 would be enough for a

q6600 overclocked somewhere between 3-4ghz
x1950xt (maybe a small oc) (upgrade to a dx 10.1 card in the future)
1 sata drive (possibly another drive in a year or so)
1 dvd r/ cdr drive
2gbs of ballistix

If that is so then I might just get the corsair 520hx. I kinda want it a little future proof for further upgrades like a dx10.1 card and maybe another harddrive. I don't plan on doing any sli or corssfire and I won't be upgrading the cpu ever. (When I need to upgrade it I'll probaly build a new rig)

Your no. 1 reason is nonsensical at best, it's ATNG not Rosewill. Rosewill is just a name plate.

Rosewill has the interesting habit of sometimes shipping a really solid product, then changing who's making the part and selling it under the same product name. Even if I saw a good review of their stuff under the most rigorous possible conditions, I wouldn't buy their stuff. Especially not when there are perfectly good units available at half that cost - that don't consume power by the kW/h.

Probably. There's always the HX 620 if you're not sure or want some extra grow room.

Really? I would like to see ANY proof of that you may have.

Rosewill uses a number of different OEM's, but they're all different OEM's. The "Xtreme" line is all ATNG.

Honestly, and I am sure I will get flamed for this, the best bang for the buck PSU I have owned was a "crappy" 450w Rosewill PSU. It powered a 7950GT volt modded and overclocked to 720mhz, 3 hard drives, an overclocked Core 2 Duo at 1.575v, 4gb of ram, two disk drives, 6 case fans, and about 10 USB devices on 2 unpowered USB hubs and the motherboard I/O. That PSU lasted over a year and is still in a similar system owned by a friend.

I think I'll settle for the thermaltake toughpower, thanks for the replies. It also has a 50 dollar rebate.

i like those psus that nvidia recommends/makes.

nVidia doesn't make any power supplies instead they have some they've certified and the Rosewill the OP asked about is SLI 8800Ultra certified.

If you can afford it go for Corsair 620HX, you will never change it in your life. The corsair 520hx is nice and will power your system but maybe not 4ghz with a GTX SLi config.

With their past reputation, it's hard to convince people it's just a nameplate.

They will need to release several good products and dump most of their cheap product line before it will gain confidence such as Corsair, PC&P have.

If I had $220 for a PSU, I would still look elsewhere.

I think the only reason this questions was asked was because the newegg combo deal offered. A q6600 for 279 and this rosewill for 100 bucks off. I think I will take the plunge and see if this PSU is worth a crap (along with the q6600).

I already have a pcp 750 quad running my PC and have been using good PSUs for a few years now, this will be the only 'off brand'. The rosewill will be used to power what is basically in my sig minus the 2 raptors and 4 gigs of ram.

If the rails turn out to be solid - good for me. I read the review of a lower watt version by jonny guru and it seemed ok.
