Why shouldn't I get the Westinghouse L2410NM

I'm wondering if there's any reason not to get the Westinghouse L2410NM monitor.

It doesn't have a dvi connector, but dvi->hdmi converters/cables are relatively cheap. In price wise this seems to be the cheapest 24" LCD, and the only "negatives" I read about it are the lack of DVI and a cheap stand.

Is there anything else should know?

I'm actually looking at them right now on newegg myself. Problem is it's primarily going to be a lan monitor. I have a 37" Westy for home use I just need something more portable to go with it.

At first I was just going to go all out and get the 20" NEC with the S-IPS panel but I really don't like having to adjust all my game resolution settings everytime I go to a lan :|

The only things that give me pause about the 24 inch Westinghouse are that there's almost no information that I can find as far as what kind of panel it is and nobody here has gone the guinea pig route to tell us if it's worthwhile or not.

I keep looking for a thread about it on here but it seems as though the monitor/panel snobbery is in full effect and no one's biting on the cheapy display this time ;)

I got it in the end. happy with it over VGA, not so happy with it over DVI, but that might be due to the DVI on my 9800 Pro not being able to drive it well.

Pictures or more detailed impressions?

Is the difference you see between VGA and DVI something that's quantifiable in pictures or something you can explain?

I'm super curious since this won't get use more than a few times a year. It doesn't have to be perfect but I'd really like a display that works nicely over DVI/HDMI.

The only other resource I can find on the monitor is the newegg reviews and we all know how useful those are

over VGA the picture is nice and sharp, I dont notice any negatives (but perhaps I'm not picky).

However, on DVI->HDMI I notice the green snow effect from time to time (not so often) but more often I notice a shimer/streak line the display, which seems to be indicative of not being able to really keep up w/ 1920x1200. It could be the video card, but the other card I want to try it with is PCIe and wont have the motherboard till next week.

so it seems like it was my video card, as w/ the 7900GS, its able to run it at 1920x1200 w/o a problem. It basically seems that the 9800 Pro couldn't run it w/ reduced blanking interval that is needed for this res.

so pretty happy w/ this LCD at the moment.

umm your poor? I have a 27in westy and besides the weird resolution i love it. (used as a tv currently)

I picked one of these monitors up at best buy earlier in the month when they had them on sale. I love it. Has great viewing angles, and the colors are nice.

It was interesting seeing it sitting on the shelf next to other 24" LCD's. When viewing at extreme horizontal or verticle angles it appeared clearer than any of the other models they had on display to both my wife and I. This included the Gateway, Samsung and Acer models.

The only thing I can say "bad" about this monitor is just how bright it is. Its VERY bright, and took some adjusting to make it comforatable to my eyes. However thats probably just a personal thing.

That and it made me realize just how badly I needed to upgrade my 7800GT

I bought one too. No complaints, no dead pixels, nice and bright. Working great in my home office as a second monitor and HDTV. FYI it's an MVA panel.

Anybody above able to run power saving mode over the HDMI?

Extremetech's review claims that if Windows goes to power save mode (monitor off), the 24 inch Westy just turns blue instead of turning off

Are the current ones still like that?

I would imagine they're all like that. I never use power-save mode so it's not an issue for me.

I think I'm going to go with this. My other choices are 22" TN based displays like the 226BW and for the $130ish difference I think I'll get the 24" MVA panel.

I have one my self and is happy with it also. I dont have any problems. I was using the HDMI to dvi. but I got the DVI flicker bug on my X1900xt. So I have to use the VGA, until I upgrade my video card. Yea the brightness was bright, I got used to it tho so it doesnt bother me any more.

I still happy with it, Its cheaper then what it was too since its like 449 on newegg. I would say go for it . Since I am happy with mine. I been using it for a while now. I dont regret buying one either.

i want one of these badly but the problem is im still wondering if i should get the 4 year warranty for $80 dollars on it or not. i dont trust the company much since i havent seen any reviews about this monitor much. do you guys think its worth paying $80 for 4 years of warranty ? , 4 yr warranty is service and full replacement.

On the plus side , i have to say the display and colors on this monitor are amazing , saw it at best buy and it looked better then the samsung 226bw and cw models which were right by it.

new egg has it for 449.99 tax and shipping = $ 503.23 ( not counting the $50 mail and rebate )

if i get it with the 4 yr warranty from best buy ill have to buy it for 549.99 ( 80 for warranty + tax ) = $670 ish. :(

In VGA it turns off, in HDMI it turns blue.

I had this problem w/ my 9800 Pro. On my new machine w/ a 7900GS, there isn't a problem. The Nvidia drivers know that 1920x1200 needs a reduced blanking interval, I think that might be the issue w/ the ATI drivers?

there's a a 10/12% off coupon from best buy, which if the extended warranty is included would make it a little over 560 or around $600'ish. Still essentially paying $150 more than newegg (seems not so worthwhile, as lets say it craps out in 2 years, you could use that $150 to buy a new probably better one).

well, it does include tv monitors and this is effectively more of a tv monitor than a computer monitor (as can be seen from the awkward placement of control buttons).

anyways, doesn't hurt to try, I still think it doesn't make the bestbuy price worthwhile.

I had a similar 10/12% off coupon from best buy when I purchased mine and they allowed me to use it. Not sure if the manager was just being nice though.

best buy had a sale today , price was dropped from 549.99 to 419.99 , used the 12% rebate on top of that , got 4 year warranty , got mine for 420.83 :D

How did you get it that cheap? I guess they raised the price back up bc mine came out to $486 with the service plan, tax, and shipping.

forgot to mention i used $15 reward zone rebates also :). but still i got it way cheaper then newegg.com and other websites and i also got the 4 yr warranty with it.

it looks fine w/ my 7900 GS, but it didn't work well with my Radeon 9800 Pro (though the VGA w/ the 9800 Pro looked fine as well).

Would like to know how the DVI - HDMI looks on this monitor as I'm interested in this monitor..

Shouldn't be a problem with a decent cable or adaptor, DVI and HDMI are the same cable, just different connector ends, in regards to video.

that's what I thought, but it didn't work well with my 9800 Pro. I highly advise you make sure that your video card can do 1920x1200 w/o a problem first. It needs to be able to support the reduced blanking interval (the nvidia drivers explicitly mention this, didn't see it anywhere in my drivers for the 9800 Pro).

Heh, well, I don't imagine Westinghouse or any other monitor manufacturer spends a lot of time worrying about DVI scaling issues with 4 year old+ video cards. Nor do the manufacturers of said cards.

using the Dvi - Hdmi cable atm , with my ati x850xt pro vid card , havent had any issues yet. the picture quality is crystal clear. havent had any issues with the monitor at all . im so glad i purchased this one over the hp and samsung ones.

Also best buy dropped the price on thie monitor from 549.99 to 449.99. also good part about best buy is , they have a 14 day no questions asked return policy, so you can exchange it or return it if you have any dead pixels are dont like the monitor. i connected my ps2 and ran alot of games on it and i dont have 1 single complaint. battle field 2142 looks sick on this monitor.

running it on 1920x1200 atm , no problems at all. No ghosting , No color discolorations , havent seen any bleeding yet.

Are you guys still enjoying this monitor, have you noticed any lag or ghosting with games? I will be grabbing one on Sunday (I was supposed to get it 3 weeks ago) primaraly for PC and 360 gaming and just want to make sure it's still the best bang for your buck 24" with component and DVI inputs.
