imac G4 doesnt boot up

I have an imac G4 flat panel that got shut off in a thunder storm by the power going out. It has a surge protector though.

Now when I turn it on, it loads at the grey apple screen, then it goes to a light-blue colored screen with the loading circle and it just sits there, it doesnt go to desktop.

Anyone know how to fix it?

How long did you let it sit there? I believe because of the way it as turned off it is doing some sort of disc utility. I would let it sit there for as long as 15-20 minutes and see if it comes up.
 
Try booting through CD- use the OSX CD and if it boots all the way, run diagnostics and repair on the HDD.

Could be doing an fsck, but most likely will need the help of the repair to get going- this is a common issue with improperly shut macs, especially if they were running something when turned off and was not crashed/frozen.
 
Now its at a black and white dos-like 'darwin' console asking for a login/pass...
After the blue screen is done loading with the circle thing, it just sits there at the blank light blue screen with a black mouse cursor that I can move.
ANd i dont have an OSX disk.
 
The DOS like thing is single user mode- you can get out of it by typing reboot.

Thats a good sign as it shows that OSX is still there. :D
 
What do I do after I type reboot on the black screen....should it work then?
 
Hey guys im finally getting around to fixing this...

Darwin wont let me login, it says my username/password is incorrect, but ive tried my user/pass that I use in the GUI of OSX and it worked, but now in darwin it says its incorrect. Is there a default login?
 
whats the admin password
i logged in as root with the pass i used in osx and it says login incorrect.
 
I didnt install OSX, i got the comp on ebay with OSX pre installed.

I still cant login with any combo of my username/root/install username....

When i first got the comp the default user was 'macuser' with no password, then I changed it to 'dillusion' with my password, but macuser was still in the main system...
 
Get yourself some OS X disks and just do an "archive and install" of the OS.

macuser wouldn't be the admin, try Administrator with a password of nothing. There is a root account and then user accounts.
 
I just wanna get it working so i can sell it to a friend....its just sitting in the corner of my room.
