Small Upgrade

Hey, A buddy of mine is after a small upgrade for his brother's computer. All his brother uses it for is Runescape and doing little assignments (he's only like 7 or 8). So he just wants a little boost in performance and one thatll last him abit of time. Also, we live in Australia so i'll be buying all parts from a local store here in the Sydney area. I wasn't really planning on spending any more than $150 AUD.

Here are his current specs; Celereon 1.7Ghz Socket 478, 480Mb ram, SiS 651 32Mb onboard video all on an AOpen MX 46U2-GN Motherboard and running Xp Pro.

I was thinking just a cpu/ram upgrade as they dont want to spend to much money. And i have two questions regarding the upgrade;

With the RAM, my question is, his motherboard can take DDR266 and accoring to the motherboard website (http://global.aopen.com/products_detail.aspx?Auno=359) it can only support PC2100 RAM, is this true? If not can someone run through it with me, what it can support. :)

As for the CPU would just grabbing a P4 do the job and will it run alot smoother?

And i would mainly use this store for buying the parts

Thanks for any help :)
If I dont reply for a while i will most probably be at work.

PC2100 RAM IS DDR 266 RAM. Any set of DDR RAM will work actually since RAM can downclock itself in order to be compatible with certain mobos.

I think it would run a little bit smoother if you upgraded the CPU. However, it doesn't look like that store you linked to has socket 478 Pentium 4 in stock. Spend as little as possible on a P4 since it's a bit of old tech.
