I believe it's possible, it's just that I'm not exactly sure how to set it up.

I've got a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 (running DD-WRT) and a Linksys WAP54G (currently not used) and a laptop with a Linksys PCMCIA card out in a far back second garage. Right now I just barely get a signal even with the Buffalo cranked up.
I want to setup the AP in the first garage next to the house and have it connect to both the Router and Laptop wireless.

House(Router)-->1st garage(AP)-->2nd garage(Laptop)

Somebody know the steps on how to do this?

Thanks

can you run dd-wrt on the linksys?
i thought dd-wrt had a way to connect 2 aps - WDS or something?

whoops, missed that part.

I think the only way to use that 2nd AP is going to be to hardwire it to the first one.
you could give it the same ssid and security info, and it shouldn't a huge problem, maybe where the signals overlap might cause some trouble, but you could always just setup 2 different ssid's on different channels.

the only other way i could think to get wireless out there would be some sort of signal booster in the first garage, nothing connected to the network, just a repeater of sorts.

if the antenna is removable, you could try a higher gain antenna, but that's gonna cost a little bit.

Yeah I was afraid the only way was to hardwire the WAP to the Router.

Thanks

Cranking your power up on one side does nothing for the return signal. Antennas work for both send and receive.

i.e. The AP is sending at 200mW, but the PCMCIA card is only sending at 50mW. You might be better off with a larger, or directional antenna.
