I was wondering if there was anyway I could copy the video files to my PC. What I want to do is to be able to store the video on a HD on my PC. Also I want to be able to view and edit the video from my PC. If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I had the same box.. spent over 6 months trying to get the firewire to work on both XP and Vista machines.. It wouldn't work no matter which drivers I tried. Good luck.

w1retap: did you try using XP SP1? It appears that there were some changes to the firewire implementation post-SP2 that make it impossible to use with this STB.

yes, I even tried the firewire SP1 rollback drivers. I know the rollback worked because I also use the Canopus ADVC110 which requires the rollback in order to work.

I think the issue is with programs that can properly receive the digital signal from the firewire on the box. I tried all the recommened programs, but none of them worked. You are supposed to be able to capture TS/MPEG2 via the box.

I also know the 8300HD DVR has an optional eSATA port which you can hook up a SATA hard drive to and record. I have yet to hear of anyone successfully getting the recorded shows off of it though.

Thats what I was going to try. Thanks guys I will look at the those sites and see what I can find. Whenever I do decide to try this I will post my results.

Give it a try, you never know what will happen. Some people experience much different results. I know different boxes from different companies have other versions of the firmware on them. That probably has something to do with it.
