Hey, i have a pd805 @ 3.2ghz with an x850xt. I installed the game, started it up, and i have no mouse pointer, so i have to meander my way without it and try and click on new game. So I got a new game to start, and it shows the intro video in the mid atlantic, but then after that, when the game starts, it shows black and white squares, and i can see the explosion a bit, but i cant make out anything...I have tried reinstalling and i installed the fix ati has put out..http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=29041

But nothing is working....Whats going on?

Please post threads in their proper subforums -Rich

Oh wow, yes it does, thought maybe it would run though. Well, this sucks, spent 50 on the game and cant play it, plus i just bought a new heatsink for my x850xt. Guess it's time to get that 8800gts 320 i have been looking at.

It sucks too, I know. I have a good X850XT sitting on a shelf right beside me. Would've been nice if ATI implemented SM3.0 in those cards.

strange the game runs, but no mouse pointer. Seems like a nother issue to me.

Just curious if any of you might know why this demo always crashes for me.
It will let me play through the part where you swim in the water and enter the lighthouse.
But after the the little sub takes me through the city it will always crash after the sub goes through the coiled tube and starts up the elevator.
Below is what I am running the demo on.
Windows XP
3.20 Pentium 4
2 MB memory
Asus P4P800-E
GeForce 7800 GS with latest Bioshock drivers.
Soundblaster Audigy

Seems like a good game but I would love to play it more.

Funny, I was having the exact same issues.

So I can't even play the game? Excuse my language, but that's fucking retarded.

EDIT:

This really sucks. Some of us don't have the money to upgrade our systems as often as others. Shit like this makes me want to buy a 360 or PS3 and never look back.

amen to that....the min req doesnt say anything about SM 3.0 tho...

EDIT: NVM Systems Requirements lab says it does need SM 3.0

Same prob here. I can't see why they can't at least add a generic pointer. I just spent almost an hour trying to configure all my in game options just by guessing at where my cursor was. I'm going to try and play it now.

I had the exact same problems where the game would crash after the sub thing.

I switched to my Vista install (I dual boot Vista and XP) and it loaded the level fine but was so slow it was unplayable. So I went back to XP and updated my video drivers to the newest version I could find and that seems to have solved the problem.

I currently have a bit of a problem with slowdown during gameplay though. When I play I get gradual slowdown until I am unable to play as its so jerky. If I alt-tab back to windows and wait for a few seconds I can go back to the game and it plays normal again for another 10 min or so. Doesn't sound like a memory leak but who knows.

My system:
Dell XPS2
2.0 Pentium M
1 Gig Ram
Nvidia Geforce Go 7800 GTX

I can't even get passed the initial movie in the demo. I get a blue screen of death.
Kinda odd considering I am running a 7600gt.

Funny how ATI's website has the following on it:

Solution:
Please download and install the following hotfix file to address this issue.

According to them, cards that aren't even compatible with the game should be fixed with this patch. Can you say oversight?

Yea, Im stuck, dont know if i should buy an 8800 or not....i know i will be happy with it, but, a big chunk out of my wallet.

Retarded is not reading the minimum system requirements :eek:

Allow me to finish that sentence for you: ...before purchasing a game.

I've been fortunate enough to have a system that is up-to-date for at least seven or eight years. In that time, I haven't come across anything I couldn't run due to insufficient hardware--only things I couldn't run on max settings. I did check the minimum and recommended requirements, and I guess SM3 slipped passed me. If that makes me retarded, then I guess I'll strap on a helmet and apply for disability.

I downloaded the demo specifically to make sure I could run it before purchasing the game. I cannot, therefore I will not purchase the game.

Where on the retail box does it state the it needs SM3.0? It does not state that it specifically needs an SM3.0 video card, and the manual does not state this either.

Video card: Direct X 9.0C compliant video card with 128mb RAM (Nvidia 6600 or better / ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550)
~~~ this is right from the manual and its the same on the back of the box.
Its happening to a lot of people. I have 2 7800GTs in SLI and the only way I have been able to get it to run is going into msconfig and disabling everything that loads during startup - antivirus, firewall, EVERYTHING. I got into Rapture and through the first area with missing textures. When I opened the door to go into the next area it crashed to desktop. There are lots of posts about the issue on 2k forums, but no fix. Looks like it is time to wait for a patch.
Great. Well I'm not about to disable everything to run this. I think that come morning
CUSTOMER SUPPORT: 1-800-638-0127 just might be getting a call from a very unhappy (and $40 short) customer! :mad::mad:
I called customer support after trying the standard driver tricks. That is what they had me do. disable everything under startup in msconfig and clean my temp directory. My next trick is to try placing -dx9 in the .exe in case it is getting confused for some reason.
For the average person who buys this game "In Good Faith" that they can run it on their machines, this is Way to much to do. If this doen't get fixed in a day or two, I will be demanding my money back from them and they can do whatever they'd like with this coaster I have on my desk at the moment. I have no intention of disabling my security for a game.
Just sent off an email to [email protected] - We shall see what kind of response I get to That email.
The darn thing keeps crashing on me. You can see my stats. Any ideas out there as to why its crashing on me? Ive installed in both XP Pro(32) and Vista (64)and it crashes in both OS's.
here's the readme from the game on system requirements:
For what it is worth - I've probably played the game about 8 hours straight with zero problems. I'm using the 163.44 Nvidia drivers, latest soundblaster Audigy 2zs drivers, Win XP Pro Sp2. My system: Q6600, 2048mb ddr2 Ram, BFG 8800 gts 640mb, Gigabyte ga-p35c-ds3r. I'm playing at 1280x960 with everything turned all the way up and image settings to highest quality. I've really enjoyed the game - so much to do and see and its all top notch, I'll be surprised if it isn't some type of game of the year. Best graphics I've seen - ever.
I have an X-Fi XtremeMusic (latest drivers from Creative), Vista x64 (fully updated), and an 8800 GTS 640 with the latest available drivers on NVidia's website (From mid-July or something) and I haven't crashed once. In fact, I've only had one issue with sound that was corrected with a restart and hasn't come back. It's crappy to see lots of people are having problems.
You might want to try dropping your overclock since it's happening in both OS and see if that helps.
While it doesn't say SM3.0, it does say that the minimum would be a ATI X1300, which is more recent than X850XT ;)
I am pretty pleased as the game runs good on my old machine.
I just don't like the mouse speeds, on setting #1 it makes game play easier since small movements of the mouse don't turn you all the way around, but you have to move the mouse a lot in the menus.
Well, in my book, this is false advertising. If it Requires a certain "level" graphics card to run the game, that should be said in no uncertain terms right on the box and in the manual.
Your right! it does require a certain "level" of graphics card to play. One that has SM3 you tard :\
Notice on the system requirements it says the minimum ATI card needed is a X1300? The way I see it your X850 is 450 numbers below that, hence you DON'T meet the minimum system requirements, not 2K's problem.
As I posted earlier in this thread, my game always crashed after the sub marine ride into the city.
I figured out my problem was my Audigy sound drivers. After updating to the latest drivers from the creative site my game plays great.
I was now able to play all the way until "Bubbles" got medieval on some guy.
Then my rig overheated at 110 degrees and back to desktop.
But it was a lot of fun while it lasted.
For one, I do not have a x850 Tard. :rolleyes:
This is still deceptive and misleading. The full specs should be on the box for everyone to read.
So you're telling me that all customers, ALL customers, tech orientated or not are going to KNOW that an x1300 card or higher is required and has SM3? You think that everyone who buys this is going to check their card first? How about the grandfather that gets his grandson a present? Is he, at 70, going to make sure his grandsons machine/card is capable of Running Bioshock 1200 miles away............ Right. Tard. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
This is their fault for not disclosing this fact!
I'm pretty sure X1300 and SM3.0 are both equal on the jargon scale. Chances are that more people know if they have an X1300 graphics card compared to "SM3.0 capable graphics card".
I played it with the non-beta drivers fine, but upgraded to the beta to see if it will fix an intermitent(?) video bug that pops up every few days.
If you put the -DX9 to the .exe and it runs, then you know you are running into a DX10 issue. My 8800 GTX and Vista wouldn't work either until I installed the latest nvidia beta drivers in addition to the Microsoft DirectX End User Runtime application.
Now it runs great, and it's the best game I've played in a long time. Wish they would have gotten it to run better out of the box for everyone though, shouldn't have to screw around this much to get a game to work.
While it doesn't state anywhere that the Cardrequirements are because of the need for SM3.0 it DOES state that it needs a X1300 or better, last time I checked the X850 is not a X1300 or better... (read X1300+ excluding the X1550 is needed, 1300>850... :rolleyes: )
Please forgive me if I'm wrong, but I am assuming that we are still talking about the X850 not being able to run the game..
Please forgive me if I'm wrong, but I am assuming that we are still talking about the X850 not being able to run the game..
No, I'm personally not talking about if the x850 works or if the x1300 works better. I do not own an x850, or an ati card for that matter. I am talking about the fact that SM3 was not on the box explicitly which Will lead people to be unhappy that their $40-50 game won't work with, say a 9800 series ati card. In most cases, once you open the game, you own it. In my opinion, they should have labeled the box much more clearly and effectively to just completely Avoid people running into issues at all. The whole 2 copies only thing is another ridiculous issue altogether.
Also, IMO, it doesn't matter if it says x1300 or better on the box if people in general don't know that That card is SM3 compliant and that their card won't work. A simple List of compliant cards would have done wonders, but then a large segment of the computer gaming public would have realized their cards would not work, forcing them to either buy a new card (impractical) or not buying the game.
People are having issues:
I agree. The box should list SM3 as a requirement. Also a list of supported graphics chipsets. Would have saved tons of people the aggravation and time of installing and then finding out they're screwed.
Is a X1300 faster than a X850xt pe or even a X800?? With proper sm2.0 support which would run the game faster?? ..
They should have been a little more clear on their box.. Or even just put a line like this on the box:
"Nvidia 5xxx series and Ati 8xx series cards and below are not compatible with Bio Shock"
Since the x1300 is a bottom rung card people with last gen or 2 high end cards might be inclined to think they can run it..
Would have made it a whole lot more clear to the consumer.. Just an oversight I am sure, I would not ding them too much over it.. But oversights like this can really cause the customers and the games support channels a headache..
