Hi there
I just wanted to ask some questions about my new 2900xt . Well, the 2900xt has a 6 pin and a 8 pin power connector. My psu has just two 6 pin connectors, it works fine with this setup.
But you cant overclock the Videocard, for that you need one 6 pin connector and a 8 pin.
And here is my problem:
I cant find an adapter cable from the 6 pin to a 8 pin, but i got a 4 pin to 8 pin cable with the power connectors made for the cd-rom drive.
Here's the picture of the cable:

would this work or would that damage the videocard?
i know this is just a very strange workaround, and maybe not so healthy for the card.
or
should i buy a new PSU which has this cable supplied?

Thx

It might damage the card, but it will definately strain your psu. I woudln't risk it.

you might be able to use that, but be very carefull, only do this if you can pull the power from the same PSU rail (i assume you have at least dual 12v rails) as the second (now unused) 6 pin connector draws from. if you end up drawing all that power from the system rail instead, you might overload one 12v rail while not using the second rail for all its worth

DO NOT USE THAT CONNECTOR YOU LINKED!

The 8 pin you linked is for the Aux 12V for the motherboard. The 8pin PCIe and the 8pin Aux are different. The aux 8 pin has 4 power lines and 4 grounds. The 8 pin for PCIe is 3 power and 5 grounds. Therefore the result may be the board not working to damaged hardware.

Exactly what Tep said. Here is the adapter you were looking for.......
