Just wondering if anyone has had experience with ABS computers. I notice that Newegg sells them. Are they quality parts? Mass produced? Good customer service.

They seem to be one of the more reasonable priced computers compared to Alienware, Northwest, Voodoo etc.

Any feedback?

velocity micro is a bit better IMO, check them out. under the home section, the vector GX campus edition is a BEAST (1000 bucks, overclocked C2D at 3ghz+, 8600GTS)

velocity mico and avadirect are good integrators with good pricing

avadirect has a bigger selection of parts, so if you're anal about noise you can pick quiet hdds, psus, and heatsinks

Thanks for the info. I am starting to think that Avadirect would be a place to get an all around good deal. I have compared them to the others and found that they have the best options, best price and best warranty. In fact there are so many options that it will take a lot of research to pick a mobo, processor cooling system etc.

I'd advise giving their sales a call. You'll probably get Misha, who is very bright and honest. He makes excellent recommendations. He'll at least steer you in the right direction if you're having trouble choosing.

I tried calling them yesterday but no one answered. I was going to ask them about motherboards that arent on the list of options. Curious if they would let me put a Abit ot Gigabyte P35 type motherboard into a system.

I'd be interested in that myself,I was going to go with a 680i but I still see complaints about it cropping up.The Abit P35 Pro model seems to be getting high marks for stability and reliability as well as overclocking, but as of yet I haven't seen it available at AVA.

That's weird that no one answered. Try 1-866-766-4629. I am not sure when they quit answering the phone, but I know technical support closes around 6:30 Eastern Standard time. Try calling before 6:30. And sorry, I have no idea about that MOBO.

Ok, Personally, i have had BAD problems with one of their laptop models, plus if you check the BBB there are MANY complaints unresolved. (I havent checked recently, but there were alot when i had problems with them) Search google for 'Mahyem G3 screen flicker' problems, NOBODY, including the company knows how to fix this, i RMA'd 3 times, just to get it back with the exact same problem, unfixed. I am VERY unsatisfied with the support i received, eventually they held on to it for a long time, warrenty expired, nothing i could do.

I was very dissapointed that my 1.2 grand or so i had saved up a couple years back was wasted. I eventually brought it out back and shot it around 2-300 times, which was the most enjoyment i had with the laptop in awhile.

They turned their forums off for awhile for a very long time to stop alot of the complaints coming in.

I would stay away, i bought before researching them, and i wish i hadnt.

I believe CNET has a review also, and it doesnt have anything nice to say about them...

On a lighter note, i would also like to add that im basing my opinions off of the one product, which is known to be defective by alot of buyers, so dont let me discourage you from buying their other products.

I really like Velocity or AVA at this point and this is based on pricing and warranty. AVA seems to have the best prices, warranty and options of all of them. I didnt like ABS on the selection of sound cards. You either take the integrated or pay $350 for a Soundblaster. That is the only option. They also seem to charge more of a premium for the 8800/768 card. These are just my first impressions. I have never dealt with any of them.

so what exactly are you looking for? a system, or parts?

Im looking for a system. I just got done talking to Misha at AVA and he did help me with configuration. They will be posting the Abit and Gigabyte P35 motherboards on their website. I just have to decide whether to go with SLI or not since you lose that option with the P35.

CHEERS!! I was about to call and ask about those as well.

I called Misha and asked about the new Zalman fan controllers. They were offering them within the week. I haven't even bought yet and I'm sold on their service.

In talking with him it seems that it is better to go with a motherboard (eVGA) that has SLI so you dont lose that option.

He has me with a Sycthe fan controller right now. Is the Zalman a lot better?

Better? Don't really know-- I'm not into "bling" in my PC's but I just gotta have that ne MFC2 ;)

Personally I would probably avoid AVAdirect and go with VM or even Maingear. I bought a computer in Jan from AVAdirect and its had numerous problems. Sure they are taking care of them but since it shipped to me on Jan16th its been back to them for repairs 3 times now for a total of 67 days.

The first repair was a bad video card and screws crossthreaded on second card so you couldnt pull it. It also had some mobo issues (680i) that were well documented. They ignored that and just fixed the vid card. Computer died 24 hours after I got it back and had to be rebuilt. They did pay all shipping and gave me some free software and wiring work to make up for it.

Three weeks ago the computer crashed and started hanging during the post check for ide devices when finding the hard drives. Was a bad SATA port that ended up corrupting both my HD's in finding the problem. Sent it in and they agreed there was a mobo problem and were supposed to order the replacement. Week later I get an email that no it wasnt a mobo they just rewired system and it was now stable. Well before I sent it in I had it up and stable by avoiding that one SATA port. They couldnt tell me if they fully tested all the ports or not but finally agreed to replace the mobo if I wanted them too.

After complaining to Misha about it all they agreed to refund me the 145$ I spent on shipping it back and make me a restore disc. Personally I felt like that this point I deserved a refund even if it was past their 30 day refund date. I think for a $4200 computer to have needed repairs 3 times and have 2 motherboard replacements in 6 months totalling 67 days and counting of down time that a refund was warranted.

At this point I wont be dealing with AVAdirect for any future computer purchases. Sure they have taken care of the complaints but they showed a trend of trying to take the quick fix option and having to be prodded to fix things right.
