Halo 3 will have 4-player co-op

That's cool. Didn't it say it was lacking something though too? I thought I heard something somewhere that something wasn't going to be added, or was it the co-op? Anyway, should be cool.

Awesome! All I wanted was 2 player co-op, but 4 player will be that much sweeter.

Whatever happened to multi-player on these new systems?? lol ummm split screen?? WTF

Thats something.... uh..... is there gonna be split screen co-op?

im guessing u need a live gold account to do it? i never was a real halo fan, but since i beat 1 and 2 ill pick it up off ebay a couple months after release for $20 or so

ah nice.. pity they won't allow all on one console..... oh well. Not like most would like playing through campaign with a corner screen anyway.

Split-screen co-op is limited to only 2 players.
Online or system link co-op is up to 4 players.

I won't play through it on half of a screen, and I have a 100" screen. Split Screen games are out, and online co-op is in. If I have to give up screen real estate to play with someone else, then I most likely won't play it.

eh, I don't mind sharing a screen. I'm not rich or do I have spare cash to freely spend on live and I don't know many people with 360. So the option would be nice. The thing is.... whats the point of multiple controllers if you play everything online/lanning with another 360 >.>

Microsoft could care less about our needs....all they want is money..

EDIT: Just my own opinion please dont flame me...

Uh, you can share a screen, you miser. But you're limited to 2-player split-screen.

For most people, four-player online co-op is far more valuable than localized four-player co-op. Kudos to Bungie for putting this together when they were very iffy about it as little as two weeks ago.

You do realise that there's not a business on earth that cares about your needs unless that also happens to make them money?

Not true! Nintendo cares about the people!

...

...

Which is why they're charging $250 for about $80 worth of hardware.

I'm glad that split-screen is still in. I like playing with my friends in the same room.

I like playing on split screen with a buddy.

Playing Halo and Halo2 and Gears of War on my projector with my buddies are some of my best gaming memories...

Can't wait for online co-op, it's funny how many people were ready to riot when Bungie said it might not be possible when the game comes out. They know co-op was a big hit in the Halo series.

Bungie has more details in regards to the co-op.

The Tru7h About Co-Op in Halo 3

It’s time for us to sack up and tell you what’s what regarding online co-op.

So you were probably wondering why we didn’t want to commit to two player co-op online over Xbox Live. We certainly got plenty of mail asking, no, demanding that we make it happen. Of course we were working on it, but we were also working on something better. Not two player co-op. Not three-player co-op, but up to four player co-op. Online. On Xbox Live, or sure, System Link if you prefer.

That is correct – up to four player co-op in Campaign mode on Xbox Live or System Link.

We’ve been playing it for quite some time, and bluntly, having some of our greatest ever Halo experiences. We wanted to make sure all our “t”s were crossed and our “i”s dotted before unveiling this important new part of Halo 3’s Campaign mode.

There's more to the article, as well as a screenshot. They also introduce, and provide a back-story to the other two characters you can play as.

This looks really awesome. Of course, online support is something they should have added for Halo 2, but I like how they're taking this a little farther. Hopefully it works out great.

This is the only good thing about H3 imo... At least I'll be able to play the Halo 2 port with extra graphics at my buddy's place :D

well ya, but 360 and ps3 and pretty much most of the recent system and not so recent... have had 4 controllers... I just don't think you should limit it if you can help it, I reckon they can but don't wnat to depricate too much of the game by splitting it into small screens. I get the point(if that is it) but it'd be nice to have.

In related news, I'll be buying Halo 3 when it comes out. My brother's roommate is buying an HD projector, and a good friend of mine has a 42" TV. We can do 4-player coop over the internet. I'm looking forward to it already.

Whatever

online co-op sucks in comparison to split-screen battles. I am not talking about split-screen co-op.

I am talking about like battles like you can do in COD. So many games don't have modes like that....its pissing me off.

Over Live? Although I can't say I know for sure, I'm 99% sure you'll need a Gold Account to play co-op over Live. Afterall, you'll be connecting to Live and playing with somebody over the network, just like it was a deathmatch, or any other mode. If you don't have a Live Gold Account, and want to do 4 player co-op, you'll have to settle for LAN/System Link. 2 player co-op is still on the same console, with a split screen.

aight thanks, i figured it was too, but i was holdin on to a little hope. i cancelled my live account a while back and see no reason to pay 50/yr to host my own games

I hear you. I still play COD2 every saturday w/ 4 players. Sad that it's a launch title and still the best 4 player split screen fps (IMO) out there. I know co-op in H3 only supports 2 on screen at a time, but does any one know if it will support 4 player split screen for death match etc?
