Everex XT5000T Support thread

from a review on newegg:

anyone else done this?
from what i know. the number of pixels on LCD is fixed. so that guy may be able to unlock the resolution to 1600x1024 but the screen still only displays a 1440x900 portion of that 1600x1024. to see the rest, you will have to move your mouse to the edge of the screen to have the screen scroll over.
you dont need riva tuner to do it, and it can be 'unlocked' to even higher resolution. just do it in nvidia control panel. it works the same way on desktop LCD screen too.

OK, I just have to gloat....eat your hearts out:D

RAID goodness on the horizon

kjfdalkjdfas. I want those hard drives. please pack them up and ship them to me.....right now. :-P lol

edit: how much did you pay in total for both of those babies ?

That was the Dell deal @ $129 each w/free shipping....took 2 weeks to get them, but it was worth the wait.

Those are what I have on Raid 0 now, you'll love the difference. Stay though away from the drivers they provide, I had a huge cpu hit in everything from them.

The MS update now has a raid driver and it works well. You may get an error with it installing, just remove he MS SCSI initator from the drivers and reboot and all is well.......
:D :D :D :D :D :D

Edit: I was using the Vista dirvers I can't speak for the XP ones.........

Anyone else going to make vids of their everex to show off ur setup and maybe give some people some ideas , also can u send me a link to those seagate hd's plz thnx.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

i want dual 7200rpm 160gb 2.5'' harddrives!

:D

very nice major
so they are 5 year warrantied then? :)

if the deal comes back i'll get some :D

Kudos MajorDomo that was a sweet deal, and patience paid off. Have 2 of the 120's and so far I find them to be very nice drives, quiet also. Question looks like there are some kind of bracket attached to them? Wondering if Dell was using them in some of their small servers. PS don't forget to remove the jumpers for sata 3.0.

Andy

Yep, 5 years parts and labor

i installed 4gbs of ram (2 2gb sticks) and it only registers in windows as 3gbs!? anyone know how to fix this???

Before going to a 64Bit O/S remember to also flash the new bios update. The original one has an issue that will not give the full 4 Gigs. If you plan to stay at the 32 bit OS it may not be that important to do the flash.

I have never undervolted a CPU before and don't know how to do so. How exactly would I go about doing that? I installed RM Clock and I don't know where to go from there. Temps are between 80-85 idling after I installed another gig of ram so I could really use the info.

80-85?! ! WHOA!

Mine idles at arrrround 60.....55 if im lucky. Thats being undervolted to 1.000

for some reason RM Clock won't let me change the VID. Voltage is stuck at 1.075. How do I fix this?

Hi,
in the main form click on profiles. There set the 0 index to your lowest and the lowes and the 4 index to the highest. Personally I use .750 to .1000 as my range.

Then go to each profile and enable the speeds you want for each. once these are saved go to the management tab and enable "Use OS load-based management" then you need to enable one of the profiles.

the CPU info in RM clock reports a VID of 1.075, but all profile settings are locked at 1.175, regardless of the FID. The VID box on the main profiles part is also grayed out. Is this maybe because it's the basic version of RM Clock? Stupid oversight on my part if that is the reason...

i think i posted the instruction on how to do somewhere in this thread.
just search for posts posted by my username and you will see

Hey has anyone upgraded the processor to a TL-60 or tried playing morrowind oblivion on the tl-60 or the everex comp at all pls give me some info as to if its better or does the comp just overheat :)

There is a good thread over at the EverEx forum that takes it up a notch or two. Log in and go to the TX5000T forum and check out the thread on processors on page 3

I would post a link, but it won't get you very far ;)

Hi,
I hedged and hawed, then hedged and hawed some more but I just had to give it that one last click. Now I hope I haven't ordered a $324.12 light paper weight.......

I am not going buy that one guy that posted as you see he posted 5/12/07 but never returned with real results. Not even a single post on that thread since. I am looking at this as a gamble, and an expensive one at that.

My hopes are to have the system as upgradable as possible to last as long as possible. The second thought here is with RMClock.

Hopefully it will allow me to limit to 2.0, 1.8 and 1.6 as max settings. This would mean benchmark differences between the original TL-50 in the system and then what a TL 52,56,60 and the TL-64 yeilds. No promises as I don't know what I will be able to get yet with RMClock.

Now please don't look at this as I'll spend the next month or two going crazy here, I have to work, eat, sleep and have some other occasional fun, but are there benchmarks you guys would like to see?

Edit:
I'm now looking at
749.00 for the pc
67.00 2 gigs
326.00 2x160 7200.2 drives
324.12 tl-64
1466.12 for the entire system tax and shipping included.

So I really want to plug some fan control here. Has ANYBODY found a good program that will keep my fan on ALWAYS? I cant seem to find one anywhere, and the functionality for the fan on Notebook Hardware Control, doesn't register the fan as a controllable fan.

Seriously, it only turns the fan on for me, after my cpu hits 65C.....and that is the only fan....which also cools the GPU....

a cool GPU is mosttttt desirable :D

------------

also I just wanted to state an idea I had for a fan mod:

why not take a little 10-30mm fan, and mount it on that opening.....and have it spliced into a power supply in the laptop, to be allllways on and always on max or whatever. Granted you may want a quiet and quality fan for this.....but wouldnt that be better than the lame passive cooling....or having to lug around a laptop cooler pad ?

as for your fan, you can have it on 100% by tapping it to the USB's +5V source
here is the USB pin out:
http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml
all you need is a USB plug cut from an unused USB cable. run the power wires of the fan outside via the heatsink vent (extend them if needed) and wire them up to the USB plug. then plug the USB plug to the USB port, and you are good to go

also, as i notice, if you tilt the laptop at an angle to the surface, or raise its footpads an inch higher, it will improve airflow and decrease the temp by 3-5C degrees. so my plan is to build some retractable footpads underneath the laptop. perhaps i will cut 2 retractable footpads off my old keyboard and tape them onto both sides of the batteries

wow, what kind of a stuck up person is this guy Ravynmagi.
i PMed him last week to ask for the pics of his laptop taken apart that he posted. and he still didnt even bother to reply although he was still actively posting on this board. at least if he didnt have them anymore, he could have just say so, so that people would know and not wait for him to respond.
oh well...

heh just give him a chance :)

i have them saved but i'll have to wait till i get my ram back from ocz for my desktop, then i can post them again

well that solves my NEW fan mod idea. How about the fan that's in there. Any way to keep it on 100% all the time.....short of splicing wires ?

I may be wrong, but it seems that the BIOS is controlling the stock fan, and as of this moment, they still have not allowed the users to turn off this 'feature' yet.
not sure what you mean by splicing wires, but you can combine both the old fan and the new fan together to share the same USB +5V source (is this what you mean 'splicing wires?). also, one USB port can put out 500mA, which translates into 2.5W, which means you wil have to choose the fans with appropriate wattages or use 2 USB ports. speaking of which, if you are willing to open the laptop, you can try to tap into the +5V source of the 'hidden' USB port. altho someone mentioned that that port is not working, i think only the data pins are not active, and the power pins still hold +5V. That is also one of the reasons i wanna open the laptop up to test.

That is what I wanted to do as well...but I REALLLLLLY want that layout of the computer again. I dont want to mess anything up. You think it would be possible to pull the power elsewhere? It would rock if I didn't have to tie ANY usb ports down to do this.

also....I've looked around...and anything smaller than a 7mm fan is super rare........funny story, because the gap between the heatsink of the GPU and the cover...is like...6.4mm

So far I've only gotten to the point of taking the laptop apart and making the second retaining clip for the second HDD. I have a lot of preliminary work to do transferring some files out, and some downloads to grab and I might get it all together this weekend when I have more time to work

you, sir, are too demanding. LOL
ok, if you really want to tap into a VERY powerful source, use the 20VDC input from the AC-DC adapter. you can either:
-open the laptop, solder a pair of wires from the feet of the DC jack and run those wires to wherever you want to put your fan.
-or, if you dont want to open your laptop, you can make a dongle that intercept the DC plug.
it will be easier to understand if you look at this
dongleaj4.jpg

the red thing is the dongle. you can either tap into the power source from the dongle or from the DC jack. because this is a 20V source, you may need to connect two 12V fans in series or use a rectifier chip or a variable resistor to adjust it down to 12V
as for the dongle itself, you can make it easily by going to Radioshack or any local electric stores an buy 1 DC jack + 1 DC plug similar to that of the laptop and the power adapter, then solder and/or glue them together and remember to solder the wires in as well. usually the outter cylinder of the DC plug is negative and the pole in the middle is positive

can you make me a retaining clip i can buy from you? :D. i'll pay ya :). i plan on getting the same drives as you once they go back on sale :)

probably the easiest way to backup is to put everything you want saved into one folder then transffering over the gigabit ethernet onto a desktop harddrive. thats what i plan on doing

About the only good thing with Vista, "Windows Easy Transfer". The 100 gig made for a nice USB drive to facilitate the transfer. Had to reinstall software but that was no biggie.

I figure you'll go XP but I'll tell you that Vista responds alot better with the Raid and no Pagefile.sys. It goes to prove what I first thought of Vista, it is not only a Ram hog but a Drive whore as well. At least now it has some pep to it.......:p

You don't need me, all you need is access to a light duty piece of aluminium and a pair of seaming pliers (hand Brake) and bend it to match the other one, back it with a thin sheet of plastic and you're done.
