I'm going to be getting a 22" LCD this weekend. I've narrowed the choices to the following, in no particular order:

Gateway FPD2275W: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ategoryId=pcmcat104900050012&id=1158104010371

HP W2207: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ategoryId=pcmcat104900050012&id=1172880154892

LG L226WTQ-BF: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ategoryId=pcmcat104900050012&id=1177112467150

Acer X221WSD: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ategoryId=pcmcat104900050012&id=1170289358038

Mag LT2219WDB: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ategoryId=pcmcat104900050012&id=1168044601867

Samsung 226BW: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ategoryId=pcmcat104900050012&id=1170289357904

Westinghouse LCM-22W3: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...ategoryId=pcmcat104900050012&id=1170290375913

I'm getting *something* from Best Buy, simply because it is local (in case the LCD sucks when I get it home), and I will be getting reimbursed for the purchase.:) Altho I do have a budget to stay within.:(

I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder (screen wise), but are any of the above choices below par of the others and discard from consideration? Or are they all about the same? I ask simply because once I get it, it will have to last me quite awhile. My final decision will of course be side-to-side at the store.

Opinions and experiences about the above are most welcome!

Thanks!

I have the HP 2207w and like it. It is a TN panel so the viewing angles are not great. I has decent blacks (compared to the others I saw there). I play games and do some video stuff, so I had to make compromise on the TN panel vs a PVA.

I was under the impression that most (all?) 22" displays were TN? I've already resigned to getting a TN, but since I'm no longer a big-time gamer, that is not too big of a deal. Bigger is just better for shity eyes like mine.;)

I have heard good things about the HP display.

You should make this a poll. imo

I would pick the HP W2207.

Yeah, hindsight is biting me in the behind right now. Altho to tell you the honest truth, I'm not sure how to make one.:(

Never made one before,so I did not even think along those lines.

You missed on the Samsung 226cw, it has a higher color gamut at like 97% according to the box. more like 92%, I am in the same boat as you, I need something bigger but do I want to spend the money for a 24incher.

I would go for the 226cw

Yeah, 24inchers start out at close to $600. More than a little out of my budget. Nicer displays, but, oh well...

And I did miss the 226cw. Getting very close to the out of range, but we'll see. Of all I listed, I kinda figured HP or Samsung (2 votes apiece). It will all come down to what looks nice in the store and then hope it still looks nice when I get it home.;)

Regardless, it will look nicer than my 4-year old Dell 18" LCD.

I own both the Westy and LG 22" models and the LG wins hands down but the price difference might be a killer for some people. The HP's look pretty nice if you like the glossy screen finish. Your best bet would be to look at them in the store side by side and choose.

I Agree 100%. Everyone's eyes are different. Same with speakers. What sounds golden to 1 person sounds like crap to the next one.;)

Thanks all. Sunday after the BB ad...

I'm in the same boat, I'm buying an lcd at bb this weekend just to get my shopping for one over with.

i've got it narrowed down to the X221WSD and the samsung 216bw 21.6" lcd
mostly down to those two because of price point.

I purchased the Samsung 216bw last weekend and love it. It was $299, on sale for $249, pricematched 110% at CC, then had a $40 off anything over $200. I think the total was like $221 with tax. Sweet deal and no complaints here. In fact, I haven't heard any complaints about this monitor.

I picked up the 216CW yesterday at Best Buy and am loving it. The blacks are very GOOD imo. I barely notice any light bleed from the top or bottom. Looks good in games and movies.. Very happy with it.

You can get a PVA based 24" for $429 at J&R if you don't mind Acer. If you need a fast response time and don't mind TN panels you can get the TN based acer 24" for $399 at costco

This is actually a horrible way to choose. You gotta look but when looking make sure you check the inputs and are comparing apples to apples. For example my local CC was feeding most of the 22" with analog VGA at a non native res but a few they had connected via DVI at native res (the ones that where part of a system I think).

Also the position of the monitors are important. CC had a lot on a high shelf so all of the TN's looked horrible given you where viewing them off-axis. Even if the stand does not allow tilt the monitor so you are looking head on as you would at a desk.

Given the choices you presented above the HP 22" probably has the best stand/build. I was really surprised by the build quality/sturdyness of the HP and even the Gateways products (the 24" gateway was actually really nice looking and had available the only decent speaker bar I have ever seen).

If price is really an issue there is a thread over at FW that claims the AL 2223WD will be on sale at BB tomorow for $189 with no rebate. I find the Acer bezels almost offensively cheap but if cost is an issue or this is just to get you through the next year until the really good LCDs come out the it might be an option.

The "man" footing the bill is trying to get me to go with the Chimei CMV 221D-NBC off Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824252008. He and one of his employees have them. Thinks they are great.

Alot cheaper, and it is supposed to be a good LCD. Just don't know if I really feel comfortable getting something that I've not seen. Also, if something is not right, I've heard Newegg is not very easy to deal with regarding LCD's.

I've also heard that Chimei's support is nonexistent.

Opinions?

Can't argue with you there. You make good points. Except for... there is always something coming out better next year.:D

Yeah, I'm waiting for the ad tomorrow before I make any final decision. Where I'm from, BB is my only option. No Costco, now Fry's, etc. I'm from Iowa. Great place to live, but options are limited at times.:(
