I ran diskcleanup (Vista), and while cleaning some windows error logs, it started deleting all the files under users, including the desktop and my personal files. My music, installation files, movies, data, everything. I just lost 30GB of data and didn't notice until the next song on my playlist wasn't found. I would have lost everything.

First of all, what the fuck just happened?

Second, is there any way to get it back?

Did it clean the recycle bin yet?

I must say I have never heard of this before... Good lesson in backup strategy if you don't have anything backed up (Most everyone has to go through a loss like this to realize "why" you spend money on another hard drive to back up).

I've never heard of this issue either, as those personal data folders aren't included in the list of what's cleaned.

This happened to me and after alot of googling found it has happened to quite alot of people.

I used Recuva to get them back, had to do a clean install of Vista after I recovered my files though.
