Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

it IS sitting on a window sill. the window sill measures 8" deep! in the pic, where the w3 occupies is the window opening! =P. i'm in the basement, i don't want people looking in anyways and all i see out is the parking lot. who cares =P.

well, the 37w3 i got was broken. it would pixel shift really badly and have horizontal tearing, etc. i had to return it to ecost.com. still awaiting $ via RMA. if it all works out, i'll keep saving for the 42"er. i currently have the 2001fp and the 37 is a big upgrade. it's perfect for what i do, HTPC stuff. now i'm thinking 42", but it's close to 2x the $. i paid around $730 for the refurbed 37w3. the tx42 is around $1400.

i'll wait. besides i have a 100" front projector :D for movies+7.1.

lol i guess the difference was less for me since I ALMOST got my 37 westy through costco but it was labeled damaged 2 hours from delivery. I paid 890 for that. That's when I saw the 42tx for 1170 at BB. A member on here posted pics and the fact that it had tuners too was great, with coupon it was only a 200 difference (after taxes) for me, well worth the extra 5" and the tuners

where's the coupons for tx42?
PS since tx42 is only hdmi inputs, does this mean your PC-out (eithere hdmi or dvi) will be limited to 1080i30 and NOT 1080p60? afaik, only standalone players can make 1080p60 possible via hdmi. PC's still have to overcome some limitations, yes?

For all intents and purposes, HDMI = DVI. You just need one of these.

Edited to add: Blast and bebother all brackets and slashes.

I use the vga out since thats all my W3J has, the funny thing is that some days its sharper than others, though I think this is either a cable/lappy problem since other users on avsforum don't report similar issues using VGA.

It does 1280x720 very well actually...and actually sets itself to that if I load up the lappy w/o the TV being on, and yesterday when I turned the TV off for a bit while dling something when I turned it back on the image shifted a few pixels up with those pixels now at the bottom. This was fixed by refreshing the input however.

The coupon used was the movers coupon, which doesn't add anything additional for reward zone but is 10% off, and when I bought it 2 weeks ago, it took the price down from the in store sale price of 1150 (also the first time it appeared in the BB weekly ad)

Thats the one thing I hate about avsforums, you can't share the wealth (aka great prices + coupons, etc.)

WESTY-37 is now HISTORY.

Heck, fellow-HardForum members, its a "sad day for us all" when a Manufacturer deliberately kills his own best-seller and prolly the best-selling 1080P on the market
This famous Westy-37" changed Westinghouse overnite from being a no-name (Gamers would say "Westinghouse?----blah!!").to a Big name among Gamers looking for this "combo".....
Bigscreen Gaming1080P & PCmonitor + Lo price + Quality + Fit In Small area".
No other 1080P panel filled those "combo" requirements quite as nicely as Westy37-----it was runaway bestseller from Day-1.

You clueless Westinghouse marketing dept: .... look at this huge Hardforum Westy37 Thread (1/2 Million 'hits' & Thousands of posts).and other huge Westy37 threads like at AVS.
OK, enuff useless ranting.
I'm off to hunt News on other 37-40" 1080P panels (including Sony's new 40" XBR coming 2-3 weeks, which is said to be 'a killer'..we'll see)). Good luck to all.

OMG that news sucks! I haven't been on the forum in a couple of months, but this news made me come back to post! This has got to be one of the dumbest moves a company can make! I bought mine in Feb. and have personally sold about four people into buying one. I was posting tons of info on it a while back and having people pm for information. Well this has got to suck for all of those people out there that we warned about this thing being discontinued. Hopefully they can get their hands on one before the supplies run out for good.

Hi, duce3. :) I also haven't posted in a long time, but I just have to rely THIS bit of information I just found out: the 37w3 is BACK IN STOCK AT CRUTCHFIELD. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-k2ppxYSIM9q/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=647LVM37W3

A tad expensive ($1199), but that includes free white-glove in-home delivery. This is where I bought it from, and could not have been happier with everything.

However, I am sure this is very temporary---as in, they only have one, two at the max. So if you're undecided, GRAB THIS WHILE YOU CAN!

This display quality variation is because VGA is analog and is subject to signal interference from other electronics. Supposedly, digital (DVI and HDMI) does not suffer from this.

I already have one but I know that should help that person how has to get one or miss out on one of the best monitors on the market.

A year ago, you spent $1000-$1200 and got a 37" 1080P monitor. Today, you spend $1000-$1200 and get a 42" 1080P TV. It isn't the end of the world folks. Westy isn't ignoring our market segment, they simply aren't allowing a lower entry price (ie, retaining the 37" at an $800-$900 price point long term).

The argument and outrage isn't that we are getting a 42" at the same price but that the 37" is about the largest you can go for a feasible computer monitor. The 42" makes you sit even farther away from it which is really pushing the limits of a feasible office solution. Don't get me wrong the price is falling on the 42 and the 47 since they are being replaced but we would like a 37" in their to because the size is great for the space if you only want to sit 2 1/2 to 3 feet away.

I have a 42". I sit 3' away. I really don't think that many of the people chanting "42" is too big!" have actually used a 42". At 3', even with glasses that restrict my peripheral vision a great deal, I do not have to move my head to read text at either side of the screen.

As for work use, hah! I have the utter joy of working for a large impersonal corporation. I am one of the lucky ones because I have a 19" LCD instead of a 17" CRT. Whether this beast could fit in my cube is absolutely inconsequential to me.

damn all we got here are 17" LCD's at work..I just swapped to it from an old aperture grill 17" CRT

I've gotten "used" to the 42" at home, but I still occasionally boost the text and I don't wear glasses...for those of you who think text is too big

From all my reading and talking with my friends that sell the LVM series Westies these are really made more to be monitors than anything. When it came to using them as an HDTV there were constantly major problems. But now with the TX series it seems that this has done a 180, now the LCD works great as an HDTV with the built-in tuner and all but there are seeming to be some pretty good problems hooking it up to a computer and getting it to output properly. However, with that said come a few months I plan to have one of the TX-42F430s in my living room!!!

Too bad Crutchfield doesn't have them for something like $899.. They probably have one of the highest prices for the Westy on the web. :(

Hey don't get me wrong, the 42" i hear was a beast, I sit 2 1/2 feet max from my westy and it is great. I was thinking of getting a 42 for the living room since they have them at my local Fred Meyer. Hopefully no one will pay attention to it so it can be dirt cheap on black Friday! :D

Reading all of that made me realize how STUPID Westinghouse's marketing team truly is.

Rip off. Costco had it for $799.

true but I'd venture to say a good number of those orders from UPS didn't make it, or if they did were damaged in transit, whether they be cosmetic or serious internal damage

This is the reason I have a 42TX, and in the future if buying a TV from costco would always pick it up at the store..since they still do have good CS and a 2 year warranty in addition to the 90 day return policy

I suppose if you REALLY want the 37" westy this is your only option (from a legit dealer, with good CS)

Who would do that though? Just a couple days ago you could have got the TV 42" model from Best Buy for $1,035. That's $200 less, 5" more, and more HDMI ports and a QAM tuner...

Finally received my RMA replacement after more than 5 weeks. Packaged horribly, scratches on the top of the casing, and the backlight still buzzes. Fucking idiots.

Tech support claims that it's supposed to buzz. What an ethical company Westinghouse is.

The increased prices on these are lame. I was going to sell my PC monitor and get one of these instead but for 1200-1400 I might as well just save and get a 40" 1080p Samsung. These aren't anywhere in the same league as Samsung LCDs but they cost almost the same.

for reference vga input on the 42TX buzzes a bit (backlight is off though)..that said I'm probably not as scrutinizing as the average [H]er so it doesn't bother me too much;)

Dude it is not suppose to buzz, and that is very inconsenstent. I read a while back people have very good service, I guess they might not care anymore since it isn't going to be sold anymore.

Their service is horrendous. Nonstop lies, defective & damaged products, huge turnaround times, charging the customer for shipping. I'm waiting for a call from the supervisor; I want a brand new unit or a full refund.

Fight for what you can get. It is uncalled for to get treated so bad. I knew about the shipping which I still say is a load of bullshit!

All electonrics buzz to some extent, and I myself am pretty sensitive to it, but my Westinghouse buzzes only very slightly (less than my notebook does under load, and definitely less than the 55" RPTV out front).

I know this is a little off topic, but I need to know something from you people with the jerker desks. I bought one used, maybe version 1, the one with the sorta octagonal corners.

similar to this one http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/17/2007/02/small_jerker-powerstrip-mount.jpg

I'm going to go pick it up and take it apart, but the owner is not sure she has the tools. I'm trying to find out what kind of screws/bolts hold it together. If allen screws, what size? If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.;)

Uhh... so? you're willing to pay more for less? Read my post here:
I have. :) 42" is not necessarily more. It would be too big for me and others for whom 37" is the perfect size. But I do agree that with the release of the TX models the prices on the old LVM should go down.

Well, IMO the more the merrier, especially with monitors. I just wish my $799 (Costco) Westy37" didn't have a spew of dead pixels smack dead in the center. I'm holding out now for a 47" unless something catches my interest.
