I have 2500 for a laptop, but i have a problem, because the specs that i need make it difficult to buy a laptop for that price.

I would rather have a 13" laptop, 14" is the other option.

the specs i need are:
4gb ram (MUST!)
t7300 (At least)
8400m (At least)
dvd+-RW
1440x**** resolution (at least)

I dont mind buying a cheaper laptop, as long as screen size/graphics chip meets what i need, because ill just buy parts off of newegg and rebuild the system.

You'll have to look for something 14" since there probably are no 13" laptops with such resolution.
Check Dell D830 - it has a NVS card, but should be comparable to 8400m and match the other requirements (although you'll save 600$ buying 3rd party ram on the egg).

It has to be a DX10 card, I need DX10 functionality for some of my projects this next semester.

That new dell xps1330 is 13incher I know can get that vid card. And I think you can get that reso on it too. Oh nm it's 1280 LED, that's kinda hard to find in smaller than 14incher though.

I just ordered one, looks like a sleak ass laptop. To bad it's a month to ship.

you said you need 4gb ram, does that mean you'll be going with a 64bit os? You probably won't be able to take advantage of much more than 3gb of that if you're running something 32 bit.

you will need to either revise the screen resolution or the screen size because 13" 1440 x *** does not exist. you have to decide you would rather sacrifice.

Yeah i noticed that. I ended up going with a Dell Lattitude D630 with the NVS135 4gb ram 160gb 7200rpm hdd, core 2 duo 2.0ghz. Screen res is a little small, but i can just plug it into the 20" 207fpw that i have in my room.
