q6700 $350?? But Out of Stock

At this point I'll almost gurantee you the actual MSRP is $350. There's no way that many stores could afford to offer it that cheap otherwise.

All the intel pricing information I've seen has the Q6700 debuting at $530, replacing the Q6600 at that price point. I'd be shocked to see it debuting much if any lower than that. But I guess we'll know one way or the other in a couple days.

Well its possible only because those price points were more rumors than anything officially announced by Intel.

That being said, $530 seems most likely as when the Q6600 went from 999 to 530 last time. The QX6700 going to Q6700 at 530 makes sense as its at 999 right now.

Then again, losing the extreme designation might also be why its cheaper...

What I don't understand, is why I should buy this over a Q6600? Other than the guaranteed G0 stepping (which you can get in a Q6600), there isn't anything better about this chip other than an extra 260mhz core clock. That doesn't exactly make me wet my panties.

If it were a marginal price difference that would be one thing, but for nearly an additional $100?

The 10x multiplier over the 9x multiplier theoretically means better overclocking.

True, I was forgetting that the Q6600 is multiplier locked. However, even with a FSB overclock of 400mhz, that's still roughly only the difference between a 3.6ghz overlock and a 4ghz overclock. Breaking the 4ghz barrier a little easier is nice for the e-peen and benchmarks, but I question how much a 400mhz difference will translate into actual gaming performance increase.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from buying a Q6700 mind you, in fact I was excited at the prospect of buying one for $350 myself, but then I began questioning if the difference was worth the price.

Too bad, nobody has these in stock. I think $350 is the correct price.

Please post if you find these in stock somewhere.

Well, if any of these places offering this chip at $350 actually gets it in on Monday (if they didn't get them early) then we should know by early next week whether or not these chips have an MSRP of $350. We'll know because these e-tailers will actually start shipping them or they will change the price to $530 at the last second and try to bait and switch us.

I be they start shipping them out. At first it was so bizzare to see someone selling it for $350 that we all thought it must have been a typo.... I don't see how that's possible since there are atleast 4-5 e-tailers offering it in the $350-365 range...

I fully agree with your comments. I am just disappointed it is NOT listed at Newegg.com. I would buy this chip over the Q6600 in a heart beat. The bad is, I do not know how well this overclocks.

Well Newegg hasnt listed the E6x50 series yet either. Thats why the Q6700 isn't listed out yet.. because it's a new designation! It's no longer the QX6700, its just Q6700 so wait til Sunday/Monday.

Maybe I'm reading your comment wrong, but the Q6700 is NOT a rebadged QX6700. QX6700 is an fully unlocked extreme processor, while the Q6700 is locked (10x and below) based on the new G0 stepping. Totally different processors.

Thats what I'm saying, they are different processors, and hence they aren't on Newegg yet, as none of the new processors (E6x50's) are up either. However, other websites might have them up already...

And $350 for 4+ online sites is hard to be a coincidence imo...

Been reading reviews on a couple of the 6 companies now offering Q6700 for around $350. All still out of stock of course.
Still very skeptical. I think their just trying to drive traffic to their site and this will not materialize. Some maybe just trying to capture customer info for later marketing. Scandelous. I'm holding out for a couple weeks anyway so we shall see...........If they are around $350 this is a no-brainer to me.

LOL at people being outraged over not being allowed to rip a company off though. Hillarious stuff.

Where are the other sites that offers Q6700 for $350? I havent seen any except for CostCentral.

Edit: Saw the SD thread after some googling... Anyway I still think this is a solid deal because a) Q6700 is only $50 more than guaranteed Q6600 G0 atm, b) You will probably get it earlier (Q6600 B3 has to be cleared out of stock first), and c) It will most likely be better binned.

And of course finally Intel roadmap which has so far been true states Q6700 should be at the $533 price point.

edit: I think the price is really $500+ since I just checked my order and saw it was canceled LOL. Oh well.

Who did you order it from, and where did you see that it was cancelled? I ordered from costcentral and I don't seen anything about my order being cacelled when I check my account on their site.

I was one of the first to order. I used Google Checkout and saw the status as canceled.

I didn't use google checkout and my order still hasn't been cancelled. I ordered on the 20th. I'm not gonna get my hopes too high, but it'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

I think it's strange that neither newegg nor zipzoomfly have the q6700 even listed on their sites yet. Just the qx6700 still for $960-something. I wonder if they are waiting until later tonight or even tomorrow to start selling them, or if Intel is behind on their shipments or something.

I think maybe because according to costcentral.com which is where I placed my original order at google checkout orders that are placed with a backorder item will be canceled.
At least thats what they told me. So I ordered from Compsource and got it for less + free shipping!! :D

yeah, I used GCO and got a cancel email from them over the weekend. Will call and complain Monday. Using GCO shouldn't be an excuse to lose your spot in the line.

Called in to check on the "your order is on hold" bit. Doesn't seem like there's anything wrong except that it's on backorder. Then again, I can't find a single place that does have stock right now, so that's not exceptionally surprising.

Still on back order but they are now listed @ $559+............
I sure hope you guys get your proc.

Interesting.... something tells me we'll be getting an email in the next day or two:

"We regret to inform you, we made a mistake............"

Edit: I just called and asked them if I was going to get it at $350.42 and the lady I spoke with said yes. So maybe they are going to honor it. All she did was look at my order status and tell me what was on the invoice. Who knows if someone high up in the company will make a decision to not honor it in the next few days.... we'll see, I guess.

If I was guessing, I would bet that intel sent this to all of their merchants on July 15th:

http://www.kernelsoftware.com/products/intel.html

which has the q6700 listed at $365.92 .. so merchants who decided to do a pre-order system used that price.. then I would imagine that intel sent out a new price sheet to merchants today with the corrected price... and they all ran around frantically going "HOLY @&*%".

Good find jchahn. A couple of the websites say that the estimated availability date is 8-13-07. I think its worth the wait if they deliver.

Interesting. I just checked costcentral (where I ordered from) and on the details page it does, in fact, have an estimated availability date of 8/13/07.

All I can say is, they better not wait until the last second to decide not to honor the lower price. If I'm gonna wait 3 weeks for this chip, they better honor it. Either tell people early it's not going to be honored, or honor it.

Yeah, but than again, why would the merchants sells them for $350 and lose ~$15 per chip?

Good question. I thought of that. It's all speculation at this point, and we may never know why some of the merchants were offering the chip in the $350-370 dollar range for a few days. My guess is that the $365 dollar price on that printout was a misprinted MSRP (meaning Intel's recommended price to sell it to the public), and so they assumed they would get it $30-50 less than that, and so they figured they could sell it for $350 and still make a few bucks profit. Like I said, it's all speculation, but I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility.

Well, my order is still shown on my account page on CostCentral.. but the q6700 is no longer listed anywhere on their website. Interesting.

Edit: well, I just called, she said the manufacturer's estimated delivery date is August 13, 2007. And my order is still active and on track. My guess is they decided not to do anymore pre-orders and they probably have temporarily removed the item from their website until it actually gets released.

Thanks for the info...I will wait it out. I am waiting for some more water cooling stuff and I got to RMA my NF68-AR board for the A1 revision too.

Since my GCO order was canceled, I went ahead and phoned in and re-placed it. No ETA was given, but she took my order. Worst case I cancel it if I find an in-stock deal before they have it. Win win. :)

I guess Intel must have dropped the ball a little bit with the Q6700 chips. No one has them in stock yet, and they were supposed to have been part of the July 22nd hoopla.
I honestly think 08/13/2007 is a very conservative estimate for when they will be in. Unless Intel is just really far behind, I would expect merchants to get shipments this week or next week.
The only thing I can think of is maybe Intel figured there would be a huge demand for Q6600s (and there is) and not much demand at all for the Q6700, so they didn't see a need to get in any hurry about releasing it.

Edit: I just checked and newegg now has the Q6700 in stock..... for $630 !!!!!
And no, I didn't confuse it with the QX6700 (it is still listed for around $930)..
Well, the fact that a merchant has finally gotten them in stock is a good sign.

NCIXUS has them in stock for $552.23 ....

I received an email from Compsource, where I had placed my order. They cancelled it. At least they did it now instead of waiting until mid-August.
