Can anyone recommend me 2x2 gig sticks for the Abit IP35 Pro? This will be the first setup that I overclock and it looks like 4x1 gig sticks is risky, but I can't find any 2x2 gig sticks that overclock well. I'm gonna get a Q6600 to run with it. Any recommendations?

Budget: 200-300 maybe a little more.

How much money do you want to spend?

If money is no object, then go with these:

I personally think that is financial suicide though. Totally not worth it.

This one is another option, but still way too much money imho:

And last but no least:

The most sane of all the options. However, nobody can guarantuee you any overclocks.

In the $200-$300 range, there is not much that will give you good overclocks at 2x2GB sticks. You might get lucky and get some decent sticks that will overclock, but it would be luck. The Mushkin sticks are your best bet there, but the price tag is hefty.

Think about going 4x1GB. The P35 boards don't seem to have many problems with 4 sticks. Make sure your case has good airflow and you should have a nice setup.

Of course, the question is: HOW MUCH do you want to overclock. The cheapest DDR2-800 sticks will do just fine if you overclock to 3.2GHZ with the Q6600. Most likely the ceiling with that chip anyways without watercooling.

I would like to at least hit 3.0 Ghz. 3.2 would be awesome. So the G.Skill would be ok for that? Or should I just go with 4 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220161

You don't need those. Look, DDR2-800 is 400mhz memory. The Quad 6600 is a 2.4GHZ chip with a FSB of 266mhz.

Now, take your 400mhz memory and couple it with a FSB of 400mhz (1:1 memory:fsb ratio), then you're running your Q6600 at 3.2GHZ without even overcloking your memory.

If you wanted to max out DDR2-1066 memory with your Q6600, then you would run 533FSB, WAY more than your Q6600 would overclock to anyways. And i mean WAY more. It's just not worth it imho.

Honestly, i would buy these:

Cheap, DDR2-800 (means Q6600 at 3.2GHZ) and reliable company.

If i wouldn't have bought my 4x1GB OCZ just now for $160, that's the memory i would've bought for a modest overclock.

Thank you very much! Someone else said to try those so that looks like the safest.

Oh awesome. So if I overclock I wouldn't even have to mess with the memory if I went with DDR2-800. I like.

I ordered the following ram listed below ( get it Monday). At first I'll be using it on my current board (see sig).

What attracted me to the Mushkin ram was that it has good reviews and it uses the same IC's as the higher priced Mushkin ram listed earlier in the thread.

Besides they are a shade under 300 right now.

In about a month I'll be getting a q6600 - waiting for the GO stepping- and see how my current board does with that. Hopefully I can last untill the x38 boards come out, but if not I'll be getting the abit board referenced earlier in the thread.

Wow, that's the best deal on 2x2 GB RAM ive seen yet.
Thanks for the heads up.

I took the same path you took by the way, and I jumped on the Outpost (Frys) 4x1GB OCZ PC6400 RAM deal a few days ago for $159.99, but Id prefer 2x2 GB sticks instead, and these are only $30 more.

I plan on RMA'ing the OCZ and just going with those instead.

Thanks again.
