*Official* Quad Core Overclock Thread

already ordered mine for about $339 AUD :D

Should have it this time next week

cant wait...

Now we are talking. Lets see boys what you got, bring it on, and let the overclocking begin..

The whole system Pictures

Nice build. What was interesting was the -4 on the system temp. sensor. Don't know if thats a worry but apart from that looks really good.

Just MHO, but I *think* it would be easier and less obstructive to have a topic for H20 and air. It will be much clearer for those running either to better get comparative information.

Good stuff.
I ordered one today from mwave, 273 dollars...............
cant wait to get started!:D

I guess most ppl is still waiting to receive the Q6600. Mine isn't processed fully yet....

I expect that by this weekend, we should have a few results and I cannot wait to check the results myself to see how it compare :)

Any new clocks?

I am just waiting for other people to get their Quads then i will show my whole cards. Just between you and me i can post @ 4GHZ, but cannot complete the windows startup process. :D

I need better cooling on my chipset.

Just ordered my Q6600. The rep said they've ran out of the B3's and have a shipment of G0's that just arrived in their warehouse. So I'll be picking my CPU tomorrow. It will be fun putting this thing to the grinder =)

Please share where you are getting the g0's from. :D

ncix.com

I'm Canadian so I was at the storefront. I really hope he wasn't pulling my leg about the G0 (good chance they're not since it's a reputable store) and that I'm lucky enough to be able to push past 1333MHz FSB on air. The rep also told me that in their "pre-testing" they got some good results (hint hint wink wink) =X

I've been without a computer for a couple weeks now (sold my Pentium D rig), so I'm itching to get back into the game (Supreme Commander in this case ;)). Not going to do water cooling, but my P182 and Ninja are ready for the new CPU.

woo just got my Q6600 form a local store here in perth, australia for $345 AUD.

Its B3 though, but i don't really care. This thing is damn fast. Ill post OC results later.

already at 333x9 = 3.0Ghz :D

is there any program that can stress test 4 cores? Orthos only does two. (I heard there was a program better than orthos, can does anyone know which it is?)

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Prime 95 will allow you to set as many cores as you like. For dual core, you just set their shortcut to have the following Target:

"C:\Program Files\Prime95\Prime95.exe" -A0"

Where -A0 is specifying core 0 as the core to run on. A1 would be set for the second core. A2 and A3 would be used in other Target lines to get it to run on all four cores. Again, I don't have Quad core and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm just making an assumption that'll work... :D

Yes Prime95 will do just fine. Check my screen shots on the first page, all CPU 100%. C'mon guys overclock, what are you guys doing. I love to see some competition.

Chill, man ! I'm still awaiting my delivery (G0 confirmed, to be delivered anytime today) and I will bring some preliminary results tonight.

on quad prime95 my temp hits 75C !!

I stopped the test after a minute or so.

I think ill clock it down to stock till i cant get some better cooling. i definitely need better cooling to keep this baby at 3.0Ghz

how many volts are you putting into the chip and are you using the stock cooler??

here is my contribution, best i can do remotely...but ill put it back in stock as the temps are too high for my liking (damn G0)...

I don't see the actual cpu speed, multiplier, stepping and core temps in this screenie so it's worthless. At least get a screenie with CoreTemp, CPUz first tab and 2x Orthos.

te
wrong imagelink..LOL...ill take it down doing it remotely so its a bit hard..

You guys just wait till I get my rig back up and running, YOU ALL ARE GOING DOWN!!!

lol. May take a while since I have to wait for my 2nd gtx waterblock *one of them leaked* and my SB fan. But can't wait to beat all of you. :p :D

Some fast try after installation resulted in a easy 9x334 = 3.0 GHz (My board will get 2.99 GHz with 9x333 so i bumped 1 for a round number :D ) at default voltage (1.35v I think unless someone correct me). I ran Prime95 spawning 4 instances and the temp hovered at 61c on 2 of the hottest cores (-5C on the coldest). I'm running F@H SMP client now and the temps is 52C just to check if everything works fine (Gromacs is a better stress-tester than Orthos or Prime95). Mind you that the ambient temp here is 30C and I bet that with normal ambient below 25C, the temps would be great.

I'm doing this a bit conservatively so I can do a baseline results before I attempt to overclock further. Expect more results tomorrow but from the initial results, I think I can go as high as my E4300 while keeping the same temps on my SI-128 :D

Thaty your using same heatsink and fan as me is music to my ears since your getting 3000mhz on G0.
also do you have the fan on max or somwhere in between cos at full its bloody loud:eek:

It's at max currently since it's 30C ambient here... I usually lower with normal ambient and it's friggin hot since yesterday. I will try to lower a bit later tonight and report back...

just got the qx6850 in japan and cant wait to overclock it!

i would love to see how you guys do with your cpus, but it would be a lot more organized and clearer if there was some sort of chart seperating the different quads and the method of cooling...

Yup, I think all the results need to be offical and posted in the data base for all to see just how well they all do.................:D
