Would overclocking a QX6700 to about 3.2 ghz from 2.66 ghz with just air cooling seem impossible?

Could I expect higher overclocks from a QX6800?

my QX6700 ran 3.4Ghz just fine on air, with just a multiplier increase. It was warm, but it ran great. Ive since water cooled it.

whoever says no is an idiot. i have my q6600 at 3.2ghz running at like 43-44c idle and 58-60c on full load with 4 instances of prime95. i know 58-60c might appear high, but how often are u going to max out 4 cores? your qx6700 should hit that no problem.

I've used both the QX6700 as well as the QX6800 (have one right now) and it's safe to say that each processor has a different maximum OC. In other words, it's really random and you can't really "expect" better results from the QX6800.

At this point, heat becomes an issue long before the individual chip's potential is reached, that's why, with good air cooling, Q6600s go about as high as QX6800, 3-3.4GHz.
