Both the BenQ FP241WZ and the Dell 2407WFP-HC retail for about the same price here in Canada ($779-799).

After months of lurking around these boards, I can't seem to make up my mind between both. Could someone help me finalize my decision? Seems each day I read another argument in favor of one over the other. Should the 92% color range of the HC make the BenQ obsolete in the same price range, at this point?

Thanks.

did you look at any tech reviews of the monitors and NOT user reviews?
thats what i would do personally.:)

You mean the ones where half are secretly sponsored by the product they're reviewing? ;)

anyone can spot those a mile away, you just avoid those, but when i read reviews on the benq i bought there were no biased opinions that i saw...

How do you know for sure, though?

Honestly, I'm just very paranoid about "big website" reviews of hardware of ANY kind. There's too much money to be made or lost based on those reviews. Payola is rampant, and while there's no guarantee ANY reviewer is legit (pro or consumer), I'd rather take my chances with the latter. There are a lot more of them and the odds of landing on someone who's an actual employee of the company manufacturing the product he's commenting about are lower.

To each their own..!

I think either one would be a good choice. If one makes you 99% happy and the other makes you 98% happy then it doesnt matter which you choose. I chose the Dell and am very happy but I dont game. I would do it again. The HC was important to me because I do photo editing.

After reading every review I could find I concluded that nearly every manufacturer in the under $1000 market has some degree of quality control problems. Samsung and their S, A, C panel lottery was the most blatant and bordered on fraud. Samsung wowed us with a relatively high performing, low cost TN panel but then tricked us by using lesser quality panels when the demand rose and tried to hide their subterfuge. I will not buy a Samsung panel for a long, long time. Maybe never.

But Dell and Benq seems to have somewhat consistent performance. Beq may be more consistent but I read only a few user reviews where Dell fails. Same for Benq. My only issue with Dell is that they also hide their panel information and we are uncertain who makes their panel. Its just that, so far, variations in performance have not been so significant or obvious.

So again, I think either one will make you happy. Choose the one that gives the best return in case you find fault in your choice.

Are we still unsure if the HC version of the 2407 is S-PVA? If it is S-PVA like the standard 2407, then I think the BenQ is the better choice.

Get the LG246wpbn, its only 600 bucks and has the SAME AUO lcd panel that the Benq has with better quality hardware behind it and lower input lag than either the Dell or the Benq.
SECONDLY....you can purchase the LG at a brick and mortar store like best buy for example where if you have ANY problems like dead pixels in the first two weeks or not satisified in the first thirty days you can return the monitor NO PROBLEM. Just try that with an online retailer.......not gonna happen. 92 color range means nothing really, no websites use that color range, this is kind of like having HDCP feature in your monitor two years ago......not alotta good right now, no games use the wideer gamut either that I know of. Hands down in my opinion, the LG beats both the Dell and the Benq and no one reports the problems you see on the benq and dell with the LG, the LG owners, me being one of them are all quite happy.

Best of Luck

What about that lg 24" compared to the VW version of the benq monitor? (thats the rigid post version that doesnt swivel)

Are they actually the same? I am finding it tough to get a good review of that so far... sleepy yes so maybe that's the problem. ...

I picked up the BenQ FP241W Z and so far I'm liking what I'm seeing.

I've yet to game extensively on it and to try my 360 on it as well ---- too busy with work and the world of reality....

I am looking at the 241W and 2407HC side by side and I think that the 241W has a sharper picture. The 2407HC has a softer picture. I still havent calibrated them so too early to tell.

I can't say much for the Dell, but I absolutely love my Benq.

Defiantly a good purchase either way you go though.

what about TEXT? text clarity is the ultimate importance..... sighs... too much to factor in for this damn purchase.

picking my car was easier. mini cooper S, metallic green with extra lamps. yay :)

Assuming you'll be using DVI, text should be a non-issue. It will be razor sharp on any modern LCD that is running at its native resolution through DVI.

The LG246wp has same panel as 241W and the text on my LG was the worst I had ever seen on an LCD before. If the 2407HC isn't as sharp as the 241w it must suck dong.

Actually the text on both of them looks very sharp. Im talking about images between both of them. The 2407 has a softer image. The 241 has a sharper image.

Maybe you dont have a good enough video card to run the monitor. Lots of people complain about the monitor but forget about the video card...........

er hm.

roach has some good input but is a bit of a wild cannon. exactly roach, what did you have connected to the Acer that made it fuzzy for text? what settings too?

most important aspect for a research dood like me! next is gaming experience.

Wait, you actually own both? That makes you the most important person in my life (as the OP) right now. =)

I know you haven't calibrated yet, but have you at least tried manually adjusting both pictures quickly before comparing them? And you still find the 241W sharper?

I heard the 241WZ doesn't use the same panel as the 241W... since my hesitation is actually between WZ vs 2407-HC, does this skew things a bit?

I'd love to read more about your 241W vs 2407-HC thoughts, no matter how trivial in appearance.

Well, the FP241WZ would be NCIX.com, while the 2407-HC would be DELL.ca. This would be my first online purchase so I'm not very familiar with either one, but I'd venture to guess they are both quite similar (unfortunately, no stores in the Montreal area carry either one, so I've no choice but to go online).
