Are people cutting back for the summer?

I've been noticing a lot of people, at least the guys that I'm in direct/semi-direct competition with, have dropping production. I've been holding pretty steady at about 2000 PPD for the past couple months, so I doubt it's due to different WUs.

Are any of you out there cutting back for the summer months? I'd probably cut back if I had more machines, but right now I only have two and won't have the third and fourth machine (GPU and SMP, respectively) up and running until at least September. I'm not too worried about the power bill at the moment, I'm not running the air con.

I'm not cutting back on the amount of machines but I had to backoff 2 overclocked machines a bit since heat cause plenty of EUE on those 2 SMP machines.

I sold off two boxes and now am only running two (I was running 4 boxes in my rack beforehand then I realized I'd be fubarred with the artificial nwo energy prices). I think in our apartment we have now 2 a64 boxes, 1 laptop, 1 p3 box, 1 old box, and then one other laptop and another box between us 4 roommates. We have the care (ca) low income discount b/c we're all students.

That last bill that ended up being $120 was before discounts $245.48. That's with 4 people though.

my points took dive from 1300 PPD to just 850 because of maintenance and mostly because 2610 and 2609 take really long time to complete on my E4400 @ 3400Mhz (reason is 2MB cache)

I added 2 more boxes in my sauna...err I mean office :)

I added one box, plan to take one down in the next week. The new one is supposed to be twice as fast though.

I haven't cut back. I haven't even had to drop my overclock. Three machines at my desk crunching away along with a P4 at work. Then again, the C2D is the only one overclocked.

Certain SMP WUs are killing me with the 2 meg cache C2D. Otherwise my points would be about 300-500 PPD higher. Although I'm currently getting double gromacs on my P4 at work and it's chewing through them at close to 300 PPD and that's at the stock 2.8Ghz which normally barely hits 100 PPD with the regular gromacs. I'd love to see what my C2D does on the Dgromacs but I'm not moving away from the Linux SMP client.

I don't blame you for keeping for C2D on SMP :D :p

I'm pretty much all shut down for the summer. My GPU folder has been doing only EUE lately. I donno why, maybe heat. My apartment gets too hot during the day to run anything. And in the evening, I don't want extra PCs competing with the AC.
On the brighter side, my electric bill should stay about the same even with the increased AC usage.

I had my three biggest machines restart without my permission, and they arn't running F@H as a service so they sat for 2 or 3 days before I get them running again. Its good to be back in the top 10 PPU list.

No cutbacks for me. Major upgrades and increases is all... ;)

I slowed down the E6600 to 3.2, shaving a whole .1v off the vcore. That saves me about 3C in temps and hopefully evens out the electric bill some since the AC runs a fair amount. It doesn't help that I live on the third story of an old building, except in the winter cause I almost NEVER have to run the heat unless it gets into the single digits. :) I also lost some time last week when I went on a 4th of july vacation.

No changes, boxes are in th basement where it's very cool.

Probably going to replace a P4 and put in an e6300 if the price goes down.

I've cut back at home a bit,The boxen just throw too much heat.
I'm looking to sell of my older machine to put some cash towards one of those Quad core machines i've been hearing so much about.

i have had to stop folding on all my garage boxes... they were just running way too hot...

and summer is when i redo all our ghost images at work so my production is going to be in the toilet for a few weeks until i can push F@H again and even then its going to take a few days to start returning work...

although with the issues i have had with F@H i dont realy know if i am going to bother pushing it out again... i am waiting on the official word either way on WCG

I also wanted to hear a official word about WCG and the only way to get a official support is to make a new poll with a better laid out options. I made this one so vote in... I hope enough ppl will pull his weight to make it official this time :)

My bro's rig which is on 24/7 took a dump. So I'm down to 2 machine now. As soon as I get my bro's rig back up I'll get back up to full capacity (3 machines :D ).

I don't have many machines to begin with, and none of them are dual core, and only one of them is less than a year old, and barely so at that. That particular machine is shut down for the summer, since its owner is a college student now back at home. My work machine isn't producing, since I'm 6 time zones away from home and have a very slow network connection, and my main machine at home tends to stall after every WU, which means that since I'm out of town for 4 weeks, it sits idle for a month at a time. That pretty much covers half of my machines...I'm hoping things will get better when I (hopefully) get to build a new machine the next time I'm home, which will allow me to rebuild the flaky machine at home and let my work machine crunch for a while.

I lost 2 boxes recently. The ex's vista beta expired so it got a fresh os install, and my daughter went to spend the summer with her mom and took her computer......and killed her hard drive in the process. Oh well, they were single core's and were only putting out 200 ppd with these newer wu. 3 days for 206 pts is ridiculous....especially on an a64 oc'd to 2.6ghz.

My Folding rigs are still going. However, I did have 2 laptops that were running WCG and I've taken them offline to help with the electric bill...Pennsylvania has started to have big increases in the electric bill as have other states, due to stupid agreements between our lawmakers (who rarely read the dang bills they are voting for) and the electric companies...

As a result, my bill went up $15 last month due to additional fees, and it's projected to go up about 70% over the next year or two...ouch.

Have to jettison all the non-dual core machines, and do away with overclocking as it eats too much electricity, thereby raising cost of operation too much.

I wish I was able to put a small windmill on my house, but it's not a good location. <sigh>

I had a power outage and neglected to turn back on my 2 best single core folders, I just now noticed they were off and I turned them back on. Since my conversion to Vista on my main rig, I've been unable to complete a GPU WU on my x1900xt at any speeds down to stock 2d :( I tried the new beta GPU client and I have a work completion date of Thursday Dec 11 2008, I doubt that I will let that WU finish. I have a D905 coming next week, so maybe I can start doing SMP units then.
