Why is my computer is running sluggish?

Ok I just built pretty much a whole new computer the specs are in sig. Bios is at defaults. Everything is completely updated. Video Drivers updated. Everything. My game World of Warcraft is running at 26 fps at 800x600 with max settings in windowed mode. I know there is something wrong with that.

Core Temp Reads:
Core #0: 55C
Core #1: 55C

Graphics Temp Reads:
51C

My case is a ThermalTake Tsunami
Case has 3 fans (Front,Side,Back)
2 Fans for PSU
1 Fan Gfx
1 Proc Heatsink

If you need any more info I'll try my best I really want to find out why it's doing this. It is slower than my old pentium 4...

No I'm pretty experienced with the computer. No viruses, mailware, adware, popups, what ever you want to call it. Hardly have any startup services.

Hmm... idk what else....

Fragmentation? Hard drives old? Ide or sata?

What version of Forceware are you running? "Updated" isn't really enough info. There are a lot of options out there right now, and the ones Nvidia points you at aren't always the best.

Go in the BIOS and force your RAM timings to whatever they should be if you haven't already. I can't tell you what they should be without the model of RAM you have. Make sure you're running a T1 command rate, not T2. T1 is better than T2.

The 8600GT is not a very fast card, but it should be faster than that.

Ran into a problem myself with Quake Wars, may or may not be affecting you.

Nvidia driver settings and set the 3d performance to single display instead of multi-display......assuming you have an nvidia video card.

Yeah what drivers are you using? I tried those nvidia 162.18 betas (or whatever) from Nzone and they made my pc really sluggish. Especially during start-up and shut down. They also caused GRAW2 to freeze on loading.

What OS are you running? And is it still responsive within the OS doing normal tasks? Are there any error messages that come up when using the machine (at all)?

The latest nVidia drivers aren't that good for performance, I had to revert to my 84.21 drivers, as the 9x.xx series just sucked on my machine (XP-based, in sig). Run through your performance/quality settings too, normally you can get some gains in performance there. Make sure you go choose advanced mode, set AA and AF to a level you think acceptable on a performace/quality scale, turn off V-SYNC, turn on all the optimisations (probably the most I can rattle off the top of my head :) ). Have a play with games, and adjust those settings as necessary.

Also play with other programs that control hardware in your machine, such as sound quality/performance settings, "optimisation" programs, hard drive Indexing

I highly doubt you have a hardware performance issue, rather it sounds like software issue. I hope this points you in the right direction, post back if you get any changes/questions and we can go from there :)

Using Windows XP 32bit with service pack 2

When I minimize the game I start to get crappy artifacts

Have you checked the "Performance & Quality settings' in the nvidia control panel? YOu might have accidentally ticked some options that stuck under global options. I've done that before when editing profiles. Sometimes it just switches the global defaults by itself.

What are the temps in your case for CPU and GPU?

Also, what programs do you have running in the background when you ran WoW that produced artifacts?

What am I looking for there? I went there set it to advanced change a few settings, and it didn't really do anything.

The only temps I could get to are in my first post. I had nothing running in the Background

Wow, that is pretty shocking. How does it run in full-screen mode?

It looks like a driver issue thats causing your problems. There are no older drivers that support the 8600 sadly, so you may have to wait until they release a newer one (soon, apparantly).

Another other games give you troubles like that?

Make sure that when you change the Performance and Quality settings, you are using the global driver profile. Also, make sure these settings are right:

Conformant Texture Clamp: On
Negative LOD Bias: Clamp

See how you go there :)

OP: try 160.03 or 160.04, available from www.laptopvideo2go.com or www.guru3d.com -- many have had better luck with them than the 158.22's you're running. Also, Nvidia released 162.18 for XP, and you may want to try those. They're available from www.nzone.com by clicking downloads on the top bar, then "BETA Drivers" on the left bar. I'd try the 160.03's first.
