I just built a new computer with the same PSU. I found out that it wouldn't turn on so I thought it would of been the PSU. I'm in a college campus appartment. Anyways I take it to main college building and plug it in and it works fine. I took it to a friends appartment and it works. Anyone have any idea at all what it could be and how I could fix it?

Hmm, possibly where you're plugging into it. If it's not working in your room and it is others, clearly it would make sense to think it's the electrical sockets possibly in your room.

Just a thought.

Well I tried outside of my room, living room, and dining. Doesn't work. Think there would be any quick fix? The monitor turns on in the same plug as well as everything else. Is it possible it's just not getting enough power?

Maybe the socket is somehow not supplying enough AC voltage? Get a multimeter and find out...

That's a good question. Move? Hehe

Not quite sure on that one though.

Sometimes at my house, when too much power is on everything shuts off for a second or two. You may have to contact an electrician maybe?

Not sure, anyone w/ better answer please help out.

Hate to say it, but you're pretty much screwed there. Chances are that unless others complain the apartment owners won't do anything about the issue. It's rather strange, that's for sure.

You could try this: go to Staples, get a Cyber Power USP, one of the big expensive suckers, like, $150-170 versions with the 'tower' type profile. I say Staples because if it doesn't fix the problem (or you can't really afford it) they will take it back no questions asked in 15-30 days (not sure the exact grace period, but more than a week) all you need is to keep the receipt.

Plug the UPS in, plug the computer in to one of the battery/surge sockets (1/2 will be just surge, the other battery + surge), and try to turn it on. If it works (and it should) install the UPS software and use the USB cable that comes with it, then check with their control panel to see if it says it's boosting the voltage from the wall. If it is, your electricity is sub-par, and you can at least show the landlord or whoever that the machine is saying it is when you ask them to do something about it.

So why can't you just let the UPS keep boosting the power? Simple. The battery will run out, and the batteries in those things don't recharge but a couple of times before they have to be replaced. It's not a cost-effective or long term solution, but from the sound of things you need one anyway. Low power is almost always /also/ bad power. Bad power kills components. A UPS with APFC like the CyberPower I'm suggesting you get 'cleans' the power from the wall before feeding it to your PC, which should make it run more stable and last longer, anyway.

What wont turn on?
The whole computer?

Are you trying it with a power switch?
Did you wire the power switch to the motherboard from the case wrong?

:)

Ok well I've had my computer at my friends appartment for last 2 days. Took it home last night and it worked! Really weird; I've never had something like this happen before.
