Why does everybody think Lostplanet looks good

Have you played the game?
It is a graphical breakthrough.

Not really, but, it is quite a FUN game!
That is what games are about, FUN.

There is ALOT of snow in the snowy area.
The models are cool.
The guns are cool.
The game doesn't suck.

You feel like your IN the game.
Atleast I did.
It even scared me when some bugs JUMPED out at me.

I can't say it looks real, because nothing in the game IS real.
But it looks VERY fun, and cool.
And I played with no AA.
;)

Im not commenting on the gameplay at all. I cant play third person games because they make me nauseous. I wouldnt even say anything about the graphics but it seems like so many people think they are "great" even reviewers.

If I say they are, others do, and reviewers do.

On the contrary, I can't play any FPS's because they really really make me nauseous... feeling dizzy and want to puke.... But GoW and Lost Planet are fine to me ;p
 
best looking explotions + smoke, really effective snow, nice textures, lighting isn't the best but it still looks fabulous

I think its a gorgeous game

Agreed. Motion blur is also a nice touch. trek554, are you making your judgements purely on videos you have seen or have you played the game on high settings?
 
I played the XP demo and got good frames with all settings maxed. Did it look great? Yes. Was it a good game? Not so much.

Plenty of games look good in videos including Crysis and Bioshock. I have played the Lost Planet demo and was not impressed at all with graphics.
 
I have played the demo over and over. And I am starting to get into the actual game now. And the graphics are amazing to me. The cave with all the creatures flying around. The snow. The fiery explosions. How can you not be wow'd by this graphical technological advancement. And just wait until the software programmers get real comfortable with DX10.

I didnt expect too much. I just thought the game was meh and was wondering why most people thought it looked great. Stalker doesnt look that great but most people seem to acknowledge that. I just dont get it I guess. ;)

I guess I would say Lost Planet when maxed out. They look so different from each other that a direct comparison is hard. Stalker looks more dated but some of the inside scenes look great with dynamic lighting.

I guess what adds to my dislike for Lost Planet graphics is that it absolutely kills my poor little 8600gt in DX10. I keep looking at the game thinking what the hell is so great about the graphics that it has to be a slide show.
 
So are your complaining that the graphics on med/low settings arn't awesome? or that you're upset because your card (that was DESIGNED as a compromise) can't run it on uber settings? :confused:

I think you really know what I am trying to say but nice try at taking a jab at my graphics card. :rolleyes:

The Lost Planet graphics dont look that great maxed out and certainly dont warrant the low fps. If this was Crysis or Bioshock then I would expect very low fps because those games look awesome.

With your videocard, you can't expect to truly enjoy the eye candy of the games coming out now and in the next several months. It's not a jab, just a fact.

Are you playing on low resolution, low textures? If you are, it looks worse then Doom 3.

Hell, at low or medium textures it looks worse then Doom 2, lol.

You really need a high powered video card for this monster.

This is NOT about my video card. I know what the game looks like maxed out. This about the graphics not looking that great especially for a demanding game.

The only problem is it's true.

I've ran it at high resolution, high effects, and low res, low effects.

Looks worse then Doom 3 on low effects mode.

Blurry as hell? Look closer. Effects make it look blurry.

You honestly need to try it on a good pc before judging it. It looks AMAZING. Best looking game currently.

Better than a modded Oblivion.

You are NOT paying attention. Do you think all my gaming experience is limited to my current video card. I know what the game looks like MAXED out on the 8800gtx. I have seen it played on a couple high end comps. Also this thread included a HD video of the game being played on maxed out graphics.
 
I only showed that pic because it's the first I've taken of LP that actually looked good.

Why don't you like it then?

I have played some of the game and there are parts that look good but nothing that makes me go "wow". The game just looks like it was thrown together and also the ground is blurry in several parts of the game. I think I could take some screen shots of STALKER on some inside scenes that are better. I know we are not going to agree and these are just my opinions on the the graphics. ;)
 
Well it looks awesome on my 8800gtx oc. I'm more disapointed with the same-same gameplay.
 
Indoors are very basic geometry wise for the most part, outdoors isn't a whole deal better.

The enemies seem to carry the majorety of the detail, most of the rest of the rendering power is blown on effects for the blizzard and motion blur and HDR.

Im certain that this game could be made on an engine like Unreal3.0 and delivery the same kind of effects at a much greater frame rate, it doesn't help matters that it's a port.

I picked it up of of steam and it's worth my $35.

Just got the game today and it loks SWEET on the rig in my sig..I actually stopped playing the 360 version when the PC version was announced..Im not dissapointed...
