Was reading on Engadget about this. Anyone had a chance to try this out. Not sure if its that big of a deal unless you have one of the latest revisions since you still need some kind of downgrader or HEN from the sounds of the article.

This is big news because it almost certainly means a downgrader for all current firmwares. Plus, every PSP user probably owns a copy of Lumines. If not, it is easy to find and extremely cheap.

Huge news...I haven't played my PSP in like a month, just haven't had anywhere that I am sitting wasting time. Hopefully this will bring even more people into the homebrew community to get some more new apps out.

Saw a couple of days ago, good news for new PSP owners.

Nuff' said.

Heh, if u got a PSP you should be buying Lumines anyways. Maybe this is a conspiracy for Sony to sell a shit load of copies of Lumines, perhaps GTA: LCS too? There are two of the best games out for the PSP too.

I'm sure this question is hated by most, but where is a good place to start researching homebrew on the PSP (what's available, how to use it, etc)?

I'm glad to see that this exploit surfaced. Lumines is hella easier to find than an unpatched copy of GTA:LCS. Although I enjoy homebrew, I think there needs to be more features with the OE firmwares. ISO loading is really the only feature I use now. The other feature I used was full-res video's but that is done through the official firmwares now too. I would like to see some sort of standardized theme engine built in to the OE firmware.

Prices are already skyrocketing for Lumines, the cheapest used copy on Amazon.com is about $40, new copies are $50. This game was in the bargain bin at most retail stores for a while now selling for around $15.

Its a shame to see so many PSP owners not having Lumines in their library. Absolutely one of the best puzzle games ever.

Thats awesome, once again all versions of the PSP can be downgraded.

Does motherboard version still matter? I downgraded a guy's PSP today with this method and it worked flawlessly. I'm *almost* tempted to get one.

From the noobz.eu page, it sounds like there may be a problem with new motherboards if you ever tried to upgrade back to an official firmware. But why would anyone want to do that? :p

Maybe if Sony was to listen to their customers and actually implement things we want... which will never happen. :)

QFT

But if they started listening they would remove the "feature" that prevents upgrading newer motherboards that have been downgraded. Thank God for dark alex's firmware!

once you downgrade do you still need lumines? I am not a big Puzzle game guy but I would like to try HomeBrew. If I could say rent it from Gamefly and use the Exploit this would be great

No, once you are at FW1.50 you can run homebrew with other exploits. Lumines is only needed to exploit FW3.50 to run the downgrader. Actually, once you have FW3.50 HEN running you don't need the game anymore.

I tried Lumines 2 out, I found that I could get the same experience from the demo that I got from the entire game.

I wonder if anybody has tried to find this same exploit in any other early Ubisoft game.
