Ok. Well put together a new C2D build recently. I planned on going with a cheapish solution but that didnt work out so well.

Anyways I need some help deciding. I am looking to spend really no more than $35-$45 total shipped(less if possible). I have been looking towards the TR Ultra 120(probably more than $45), the Scythe Ninja, Scythe MINE, scythe Infinity. Any other recommendations to consider would be helpful. What do you think the best buy here is?

I was kind of leaning towards the Scythe Mine or maybe the NINJA since they are a little more on the cheapish side. I am not sure on the infinity.

Also, is there any reason to go with one based on the mounting? Is the bolt thru kit heatsinks going to have better contact perhaps? After messing around with the Stock heatsink and ultra90, im not so sure the pushpin mounting system is that great. My temps are terrible right now with both.

Thanks.

Yeah I actually found that link before you posted it lol. Thanks though. I have no clue on that cooler master hyper TX but it is definitely cheap enough. Ill have to check out some reviews.

I think ive narrowed it down to either, Scythe mine, Scythe Ninja, freezer 7 pro(probably not), Ultra120(not sure I want to pay that much) or that Cooler master hyper tx.

The thing im unsure of is, how well those push pin mounting systems work for those large heavy heatsinks. I dont know if I should go with a heatsink with the bolt thru kit or not.

Never tried push-pin setup, but I, personally won't be happy with it...
I bought cheap brand one first (about a 3 1/2 wks ago from newegg), and had to get my current HSF (thermalright ultra-120 Extreme) for sake of dropping temp (yeah never satisfying with the temp I got). Just RMA the earlier choice, and pity myself wasted for S&H...
If you are planning OC, I recommend to invest extra $$ on HSF... It pays you back...

I suggest you to go for a tuniq tower 120 or thermalright 120 (or extreme) because C2D are not cool chips and they tend to run very hot. I know these high end heatsinks cost a lot but the results are compareable to a watercooling setup.

You can get a Tuniq Tower for $53 shipped. That is your best bet.

The scythe ninja needs an auxiliary fan to do well.

I have a Ninja and it performs very well in an Antec p180 case. If the OP has a p180 I would strongly suggest the Ninja with the top case fan as an input and the rear case fan for exhaust.

On the contrary Core2Duo are not hot chips, they just have alot of overclocking potential that causes higher temps. If you want the absolute best in aircooling Ultra-120 Extreme, if you want a middle of the road solution go with the Mine, Hyper TX, or I hear the BTF90 is on sale with mail-in for 33 bucks.
