AMD Opteron 165 Denmark $105.99 shipped

had one at 2.8ghz awhile back, good cpu. good if you have a single core a64.

otherwise get a c3d, even the e4300, overclocked, will wipe the floor with a 165

This guy has a point... but at the same time, for 939 people... it's a great upgrade. :)

No S939 CPU would be recommended for a first-time builder. However, for someone running an old single core S939 chip (like I was w/ that 3200+ Venice, a $100-150 upgrade (165 or 170) would be recommended, esp. if someone already invested a lot in his mobo and DDR RAM.

Good Lord... for anyone with a single core AMD... or someone with extra DDR1... this is a steal of a deal!

Wish I didn't just upgrade the HTPC to a 3800x2 'cause I'd be a jumpin' on this! :D

All of you who bought for $150 quit bitching I paid over 300 for mine over 2 years ago. :p

But it's perfectly stable no matter conditions summer or winter it never hits 40C overclocked. Although it is temping to build a new PC because of the intels I still feel my CPU is under utilized. It's damn fast for what it is...

I'm wondering if it is safe to push 1.6v though cause I'd like to bump mine back up to 2.8 x2.

As for ram I have G.Skillz PC4000. Runs as advertised, although I'm not seing a huge improvement over running PC3200 C2 OCZ. probably about the same difference I would see switching to DDR 2...

great deal! my first upgrade in two years, and i almost didn't click this thread! to anybody who doesn't say this is a good deal or 939 is out of date, you're wrong. for those of you in the same boat as me (still hanging strong with a single core 939), this is the way to go. (i bought the 170 just for the hell of it...only 14 bucks more) if 939 is too slow or dated, don't tell us 939 board/memory/system owners to think twice about this very good deal.

I bought my 165 during the monarch craze last year (april or so) and this chip is still blazing fast at everything I do. Currently running at a conservative (for this chip) 2.7ghz @ 1.4v with GSkill 2GBHZ @ 3-4-4-8 and it is ROCK SOLID. This thing does 2.9ghz @ 1.55v but gets a little hot for my taste and the performance difference isn't noticeable outside of benchmark numbers.

I also bought during the monarch craze. Payed 270? maybe 280. And that was with the coupon deal. Retail was $330. Still using that chip, meh I need to upgrade. Honestly, I wouldnt buy one now, just man up and get that e4300. (but then of course, you need new ram, and a new mobo)

I run supreme commander at 1680x1050 just fine. There isn't anything this chip won't do that I'd like to do now.

Looks like I can do 2.7 on air. 300x9 @ 200 MHz DDR
Chip runs kinda hott.

got my pair today, LCB9E on the chips.

got very fast with the free shipping. ordered wed.night arrived friday morning. came out of a NJ warehouse.

yay

Got mine yesterday and installed last night. Idle at 38C with Zalman 7700CU. Hoping to reach the 275x9 just like the 144. Any suggestion for Vista/XP CPU Core temp monitoring app? Bundle app with Biostar Tforce 6100-939 only shows one core.

Thanks Newegg!

I'm running C&C3 @ 2048x1536 on mine and it's only about a 60% load with like 15 apps running in the background. Hell I was backing up my computer at the same time and it did not break a sweat, I think my vid card could be fastr though I did notice that response droped a little on the very last GDI mission.

Motherboard Monitor FTW!

I got mine yesterday , LCB9E stepping. I have one of these on a Biostar 6100 270FSB. I am going to try this one on a ASUS 8AN-SLI Premium -thanks to [H] Forum member Jstamsek for the board. The Biostar doesn't seem to want to go higher than 270 FSB so my wife gets a new computer. See how that worked out?

You're idling at 38? Thats hot. I removed mine's IHS. I have a 0609 stepping. Running 1.425v @ 315 x 9 for 2835MHz. Idles 27-28* celcius on a Zalman CNPS9500. Load temps are 42-45. Any higher really isnt stable, and requires 1.55v+, which in turn makes temps an issue, so this seems to be the sweet spot.

Good Luck.

Awesome deal. Thanks to the OP for pointing it out. I'm not changing chipsets until quad cores are cheap. Now I'll just upgrade my video card a little and I'll be good for another year with s939.

Thanks again!! :D

Just got my installed came from NJ also like most here. Was able to bump to 2.6 at stock volts. Running tests while at work should be able to bump a little more after tests are completed. Hitting 2.6 at stock volts im happy so far :D .

I had originally ordered this 165, but RMA'd it back when I found the Opty 180/Seagate 320 deal for $209. I needed another HDD for my HTPC anyway so it turned out to be a good deal.

Unfotunately, the 'Egg chose to be unkind and charged me 15% (18.60) on my RMA return of the unopened 165. Oh well.

Good deal for this 165!

Got mine today, LCB9E 0704TPMW - 2851 with 1.35v so far with the Thermalright Ultra-120.
