GA-G33M-DS2R

crap, I can buy the mobo from my distributor to sell to others at $140.

Looks like I won't be carrying them :)

My first one came in today... Im just waiting on a case from Steeve to ship.... then build it up

I cant install my audio drivers - i have xp sp2!!!
DVD has only for sp1.. what should i do? I cant download it from Gigabyte website too..

Have you tried from other Gigabyte country pages like US/Uk/TW? The US download link is working ok for me right now. Can you view other pages or sites?

I'm trying... very slow downloading... we'll see. Dont know why, but on dvd there is a note that there is driveer fox xp sp1.. nothing about sp2, that's why maybe it doesnt work...?

weird, I would think that the CD'd drivers would work in XP SP2 also.

Did you check the actual maker of the audio hardware's website? Realtek? i don't have the stats on this board so I don't know what audio its equipped with

74GB Raptor
eVGA 8800 GTS 320MB

Man mwave is fast. Anyway, i still need my cpu (e6700) which will come in tomorrow and my memory which newegg better get them in tomorrow. And than tomorrow night im installing the whole thing. Cant wait.

Nevermind, I got it. I needed f**** Microsoft patch to make drivers work...
For future reference - If anyone has the same problem - install KB888111 first, then audio drivers. There is KB888111xpsp1, xpsp2, etc version for every systeem.

Good luck;)

Well I received the board today and will have to hope that my new RAM overclocks better than a vegan in a chili dog eating contest before I can give it a ride. My current RAM limits me to about 375fsb. :( New RAM comes tomorrow. :)

On the bright side, it booted up the first time, even after changing the northbridge cooler and cramming it into my case with staticicky fingers.

I HAD to post this. Below is the CRUCIAL BALLISTIX BL2KIT12864AA1005 2GB KIT (1GB x 2) MATCH PAIR PC28000 1000MHZ at Newegg and mwave. You NEED to see the price difference yourslef to believe it! I thought newegg was the best, but i guess thye have one and 2 things they just go overboard on with over pricing! it pays to shop around! Also keep in mind that mwave also has a $40 rebate available so its almost $200 price diff!!

This ram with the GA-G33M-DS2R works out to $435.91 Shipped from newegg and just $281.34 shipped from mwave, both with 3day shipping!! This is CRAZY!!!

Sorry dude, I ended up trying the Vista route and I didnt get everything loaded and done till 9 last night... I have the e4300 at a mild 2400ish Mhz... cant remember exactly.. too tired. Anywho... Glad you got it going, I had that same issue with my Asus P5B board *reguarding the audio*

I took me 7 hours to get it done:)
Finished at 4am.. at least I'm very happy with this board:)
OC my 8800GTS and e6700 to 3GHz and got above 10400 in 3dmark 06 1280x1024.

waiting for your upcoming results with your new sticks! ;)
You won't be disappointed!

In for one. mwave as well. gonna run OCZ 1000mhz sticks on it. also have some low latency (4-4-3-15) 900 OCZ that runs 910 at 4-4-4-12 1t on my 680 board to try on it too. CPU to be determined.

I wonder if this board, and a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme would fit inside a Coolermaster Centurion 541 MATX case...I might've just found my board.

Now to ponder the CPU choice...An E6600, or Q6600? Which one will have fewer problems getting to 3ghz?

That rebate expired 5/11:(

Well, I have an itchy finger and got all these goodies on my shopping list. I already have a power supply and a harddrive to use from this computer. These are all newegg prices btw...

Case: SILVERSTONE SST-TJ08-B Black $99
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-G33M-DS2R 139.99
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe $186.00
Mem: G.SKILL 2GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ $109
Video: idk?
Cooler: Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme $64.99

So what you think? After tax and shipping it comes to $669.44.

Thats an interesting question. If you look at the Quadcore and ATX combos the quadcores dont overclock as high as a dualcore and ATX combo. I think the same will follow with Quadcore and mATX combos. You wont get as high of a overclock as you would with dualcore chip and mATX. From what I have heard (as far as ATX mobos goes) the mobos with the higher fsb abilities are the ideal for quadcore overclocking.

Short answer is we'll have to wait for people to buy quadcore chips and then run tests with the DS2R to see how well this mobo does running a quadcore.

Edit: The E6600 should hit 3GHz easier as in less effort and tweaking.

3GHz you should be able to hit on both chips and on the e6600 at stock voltage.

I probably shouldn't post this then: http://www.buy.com/prod/Crucial_Bal...1000MHz_240_pin_DDR2/q/loc/101/204538864.html ;) That will probably blow your mind! I might still try to pick some up, if the new RAM does not work out.

Thanks man. I don't think I will, but the RAM is PC8500 so there will be a small bit of finger crossing going on... It will limit me to 3.4GHz, but I have never been able to test how far this chip can go.

surely the E6600 will have best posibilities to hit 3Ghz but a think the Quad can do it to, try it!

It looks like a 8800GTS fits fine on this mobo but I'll ask a question thats going to become common from buyers I think. Will there be any problems running a 8800GTX *and* a Creative Labs X-Fi sound card? Just as far as the mobo is concerned. I'm assuming it wont be a problem but wanting a confirmation on it one way or another. :)

Received the new RAM, but it won't budge much over DDR1100 even with 2.4v and a 92mm Tornado over it! So I have primed the board at 430fsb and things are looking up, but I am going to have to start looking for some new RAM... again.

Now I remember swearing off buying Gigabyte boards... After a dud DS3 and an uneditable bios on a DS2, you'd think I would learn... :p They still have not fixed that annoying bios safeguard that causes the board to restart half a dozen times before it will post after a settings change. It makes overclocking tedious.

Ah well, I am determined to get this to work, but this divider issue is getting on my nerves. Rather than dump a bunch of money into mem, I may just get a higher multi CPU...

Anyone have any word on when the ASUS P5K due out in the US?

Got my board tonight.

Might start playing tomorrow, new build will be:

Black Qmicra v1
Corsair 620W PSU
E6400 (Shooting for 400x8)
Alpha Pre9060 HSF
Gigabyte board...
2x1GB Teamgroup PC6400
EVGA 8800 GTS
Plextor 755SA
WD5000KS
4 Scythe MNB Medium Speed Fans
Silverstone FP32 front media panel

You guys think the zalman 7000 92mm hsf will fit on this board with out incident ? Not entirely sure if northbridge heatsink would cause problems.

Would like to put this in a qpack2 with a 8800gts and a q6600 after the price drop.

I will probably fit the board fine, the only thing with the larger diam/width HSFs is if they will hit the side of the case going in.

I would guess the 7000 will work fine, the 7700 probably not.

Hmmm returned my Asus p5b-vm (why advertise a board as an 'overclockes board' when you need to raise the pci-x bus to insane levels to be able to use highish fsb's? and WHY only enable RAID in combination with the external Esata port??! rediculous...)

I'm about to go with the g33m-ds2r: i've got an e4300 (200mhz bus) and a-data pc6400 ram... I Should be able to reach 3 gig with this setup, right? And furthermore; i reckon this board has decent RAID functionality?

With this board, as far as I understand, your FSB won't be able to reach 333 MHz unless your DRAM is clocked at 555 MHz. It lacks the 1:1 ratio.

That's correct! Very good ram is needed to o/c an e4300/4400! ;)

OK I get that. Hmmm we'll see... I've got some decent pc6400 sticks, so maybe....:D
Run a high mem divider to see what they max out at now.

I decided to upgrade back to an e6600. I am also trying some 8500 Tracers, because these Dominators suck and I would like to try to get some good sticks that I can max out with an 8x multi. If the mem maxes out first, I can fall back to a 9x.

gigabyte ga-g33m-ds2r loves micron D9!!

For those who are able to read german text, check this thread on the german Gigabyte forum.

Statement from Gigabyte officials: the GA-G33M-DS2R is a budget board (ds2, hence budget) and therefore not intended for overclocking purposes. A 1:1 devider will therefore probable not be introduced in future bios'es.

Reason is that the G33 chipset would be incapable of a 1:1 devider (which is cr*p, as it is an enhanced P33) and that it is a budget board (which it isn't pricewise and alternative wise...there IS no alternative...) sigh....
