Why the hell is Halo 2's aiming reticle not set in the middle?

I drew a line down the center of the screen. I dont know why it isnt in the center, but I dont have a problem with it. Possibly so you can see above you better, as theres plenty of multi-teared content.

This is a problem, if I do concentrate on the crosshair then so much for the top part of the screen microsoft game studio is retarded:rolleyes:

Well its like that on the xbox too, and halo 2 has been out for what 2 years now? Your the first person I have heard complain about it. Pretty sure its not MS that is retarded here.

it never bothers me at all. hell i could not even tell the thing wasnt in the middle until you put the line there.

That would be a little annoying to me too. Lucky for me, I never really got into Halo.

So wtf are u saying? All games should have the aiming reticle set in the lower part of the screen?

How would u know I'm not the first person to complain about it? Are you God? I'm sure other people talked about this too on other game forums

I agree with the OP, that is retarded, thank god I never felt the need to play that piece of crap. That would annoy me so much I would probably stop playing it.

Wow you people are obsessive compulsive. More so then myself even!

And one should never "concentrate" their vision on the crosshair, that's a good way to get yourself killed. You will forget all about your surroundings. The crosshair should be a peripheral vision type of thing, your eyes are supposed to focus on enemies and the environment around you, and your peripheral vision allows you to guide the crosshair over them.

It's like when I'm using windows. Are my eyes staring directly into the cursor and following it dead center wherever I decide to move it? Hell no. I look at the link or button that I want to click and then use my peripheral vision to guide the cursor over to it.

edit - I do agree that it's FUBAR to not have the angle of the guns in line with the crosshair.

Yes I agree with all that, but not having the crosshair where you think it should be (from conditioning from playing every other FPS game) when you go to pull the trigger results in a miss, and quite frankly this game isn't worth getting used to a new aiming system.

it kinda makes sense, but then again it doesnt. when you aim at somebody you'll be looking at a lot of sky where if it was in the middle... its be more balanced

but for simply looking, its better because you dont have a stupid HUD covering up what you are looking at.

since its a FPS it seems odd, would be better if it were 3rd person maybe or more of an rpg which (hopefully) is based somewhat more on storyline and enviroment interaction, than combat.

thats exactly why i said "huh?" i thought it had been in the middle of the screen this whole time rofl. but its not exactly a game of accuracy either so i guess it doesn't matter much. well mostly anyway.

Agree. Really needs a hack to put the reticle back toward the center of the screen.

game defect found i get to the piont were the sarg is kidnapped and they find the key ,blam the game screen comes up and say for the next level --live did not have this recorded as reaching this level. wtf the game want to start over at the beginning of the alien level wtf. help my ass.

yeah i noticed it when playing halo, but after a few minutes you get used to it and then you go back on a kiling rampage...it doesnt affect your game much, it just makes you feel odd as you have to look higher to aim at something

I think its better this way because you can see more of your surroundings and less of the ground/floor.

That does seem a bit odd but I don't recall feeling bothered by it. As another poster mentioned, the game is pretty forgiving when it comes to accuracy. Just getting them within that giant circle lands hits, and unless it's just my imagination, the crosshair has a slight lock-on effect too.

That kinda negates the point of having a crosshair doesn't it?

Then again, with the way the game handles the weapons (There's a reason you have a big circle instead of a small cross), you can place the crosshair anywhere in the general center of the screen and aiming with it will still score a hit.

It seems from here that the problem is not with the crosshair, but with the field of view.

The crosshair looks like it's sitting right on the horizon when you look straight ahead, which is precisely where it should be. It just happens to be the case that the view extends further above this horizon than below it. Which is probably justified, if you ask me, since in general the top 15% of the screen will be infinitely more interesting than the two metres of ground right in front of your feet.

But wherever the crosshair is, it's more than a little ridiculous that the guns aren't pointing anywhere near it...

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!
I never noticed that before! I'll never play that game again!

I can't even draw draw a crosshair in the middle of my monitor screen to aim with!
No wonder I couldn't hit anything.;)

you know...all the screenshots show the SMG crosshair...is it the same with the other weapons? and btw, when you fire the SMG, your view moves up because of recoil...soooo i don't think you're exactly trying to aim with that weapon. its more "spray and pray". usually get their shields down and go hit em. thats how i do.

Pff Halo, more like fail-o

Seriously though why break a long standing tradition of the crosshair being in the centre of the screen where it feels most natural and most people are used to it.

Your iris, pupil, lens etc are in the center of your eye... so your focus is in the center of your own field of vision.

Any gun that fires a straight shot having a reticle anywhere but the center is just plain wrong.

Yes I'm God. I said your the first person I have seen.

So wtf are u saying? All games should have the aiming reticle set in the lower part of the screen?
Did I say that? No, I said its not a problem for me. I guess reading comprehension ftw?
