According to Dell, you can get your Corsair Dominators overclocked to 1066Mhz from 800Mhz when buying a XPS.
When would I benefit from this faster memory?

In a lot of applications and games. However, the difference you'll notice in most cases is likely to be negligable. Just out of curiosity: are you interested in getting a Dell XPS system?

I agree, going from 800-1000 yielded no noticeable difference for me.

The only place you'd see noticeable difference is in synthetic benchmarks. Especially in a Dell. Maybe if to get the memory higher they were overclocking the cpu........but I dobut they're doing that.

So, no, you will not notice any difference.

According to Dell, if I buy a XPS 720 H2C they will overclock my QX6800 to 3.73Ghz. Also, I have the choice between 4gb 800mhz RAM (no company specified) OR Corsair Dominators 4gb 800Mhz OC'd to 1066Mhz RAM...
The Corsair Dominators at 1066Mhz are about $430 more..
Which one should I choose?

430 more..... EFFFF that.. go with the other stuff... even better... get the lowest amount possible and then swap it out your self... OEM's always seem to mark stuff way way up.....

Totally, like selling a $6,000+ gaming computer.

I'd go with the Dominators. I believe if you read the reviews, the consensus is that the stock RAM holds the system back, and for $430 more seems like a drop of water in an ocean to me. Plus, you'll be set to jet as soon as you receive it.

$430 for a set of sticks that wont be able to keep up with stix half its price doesnt make too much sense to me..... I guess they can charge that much cos people do buy them.... I dont think I can spend $6k on a gaiming rig, Ill run out of things to buy....

lol

Bullshit. 800MHz RAM will take an E6600 to 3.6 GHz.. Lord knows what it can do with an unlocked multi.

$430 for RAM which full potential will be hindered by the motherboard?

Good luck on hitting 533 FSB on whatever mainboard comes with that XPS. :) EDIT: it comes with 680i?? That cannot even pass 450FSB stable for me..)

you will NOT notice a single difference between 800 and 1066 unless you are weilding a motherboard (P5B Deluxe..) that can pass 500 FSB and utilize the RAM's bandwidth.

Well, like I said I was repeating what I had heard in reviews, which I can't even find, so totally disregard what I say then.

late edit: Misread the reviews, I was reading about the 710 and not the 720, my mistake.

I still say that if you're buying a gaming computer that's already over $6,000, you might as well go for the gold and pay for the extra e-penis bragging rights. :D

So, if the Dominators cost $430 more than the other RAM, what's the total cost they're charging for them?

i'd go for the cheapest ram you can get on the PC, the buy some good ram on newegg, stickthat in it, and sell the old ram on here. save you a bit of money, and get you the performance that you want.

then again, when going for a gaming computer, you can save much more money by building it yourself, its more fun and much cheaper ^^, and im sure people on here will help you out

Yeah guys stuck between dell and building myself...

Dell (I get 25% off on all systems) is about $300 cheaper than building myself (in Japan). Also, I could get an overclocked QX6800 which isn't out yet, with the Dominators, and a liquid cooling system. If I build it myself it costs about 5,500 USD with a QX6700 and slower RAM...

What would you guys go with?
