You should be able to purchase a higher speed core duo processor, but I don't believe that is worth th emoney. At just 1gb of memory, you'll see a significant difference in windows response time for applications over the 512mb you have right now. My buddy just purchased a similar dell laptop and we found him 2 gigs of laptop memory at newegg for about $85. An upgrade like that will make a bigger difference for you than swapping out your core duo 1.6ghz for a 2.2ghz (i think that's how high they go).

There's a slim chance you can upgrade to a core 2 duo... but most likely your motherboard will not support it.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Yeah I just got her 2gb of ddr2 from a Hot Deals thread for like $60. So its got 2gb now....its a pretty nice notebook but it gets a little sluggish when lots of things are open.

what type of core duo would i have to get? im guessing a mobil cpu?

Another area to upgrade would be the hard disk with a 7200rpm model, which would make access time similar to desktop. 5400rpm is a bit slow ;)

I agree it's not worth upgrading the cpu for a very small gain.

alrighty....who makes a good 7200 notebook drive?

Agreed that ram is the better upgrade. On another note, you can't always just upgrade Notebook cpus, as many notebook mobos do not have socketable cpus. It varies depending on the manufacurer and model.

I dont buy hdds from the egg anymore.....ever since my 500gb data drive failed 2 months after i bought it. ZZF has it basically for the same price. I'll get it there. Thanks for the link tho.

Egg's been good to me in the 3 years i've been a customer. But I guess it only takes one bad experience to sour someone's opinion of a merchant. Did your rma go well at least?

not really. the egg wouldnt take it back because it was past 30 days. i went thru WD and first they sent me the wrong drive but on the second try they sent me the correct one. i was a little pissed that they sent me a recertified drive because the one that failed was basically brand new. i thought they would have a better policy for defective drives under 90 days as opposed to one that failes say after 3 years or so
