Should I... Get... A... PS3?

yeah the ps3 is gathering steam now...it is a good purchase

to the op, just look at the games coming out and see which console has the games you want and then the ps3 has the bonus of blu-ray, if that appeals to you then i guess you should get the ps3

He said in another thread that he was going to be getting the PS3 now...and not waiting. Since this new patch is great.

well I do agree with you that they are always upgradeing the system and this update is by far my Favorite. Since I do play movies on my system as well as games. This is nice to me since Blue-Ray has a very limited amount of content due to the Pissing contest it is in against HD-DVD. They can only offer some movies while DVD can still offer all movies at a lower cost to boot. With upscaleing it makes them so much more enjoyable. I own close to 1000 DVDs and now I can watch them and enjoy them on my HD-TV.

But I have to agree witht the other poster who said the cross platform on-line gameing will be instituted by the software and not the hardware. I think that it will have to go to third party servers and such. I dont think that either system should have much of a problem unless one is locked into an intranet only kind of thing. I know that PS3 can browse the Web so I know it can access any server it needs to. I am not sure of the X-Box's abbilities. It may or may not be locked into XBL only. If that is the case it may never happen.

Well PS3 owners just got upscaling on all DVD's via HDMI up to 1080P. All PS2/PSX games are also upscaled with a version of smoothing (interpolation?) that helps add some filtering to the game and makes them look much much nicer.

We can also set up our WinXP/Vista computers as a server via WMP11 and throw video/music/pictures and view them which is nice. We can also print the pictures from a USB printer too. Good stuff. I can't wait for the 2.00 update that's said to be released in a few months.

All in all i'm happy with my PS3 and it just keeps getting better. It was off to a slow start but now it's great. I never regretted the purchase honestly and I've had it since December. We just have to wait for some of the games to start rolling out but i'm not worried about that at all.

Understand, that this is the way it is for every game on any console. The option to play MP3s in game, is something that developer for that game has to enable. If the option is not in the game, Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo or anyone else is not going to recode the game for them to allow the MP3s to play in game. MAYBE they could make it so they play over the game, but I don't see that happening. Then you muddle the game sounds with the music. It would be a niche feature.

Upscaling is something that can be done for a game without having to make code changes for the game. So, that is an easier to enable feature for a console manufacturer.

XBL is locked into Microsoft's Live architecture. Since they are going to be doing some multiplatform 360 and PC games, its possible that dedicated servers will be able to be set up on computer for both 360 and PC that will make it so there is no host player. However, I don't think you will see 360 and PS3 games playing in harmony unless a developer makes a multiplatform, multiplatform, 360/PS3/PC game. I suppose its possible, and it would be cool, but I'm skeptical that we will see it. This is, though, the era of multiplatform games, so who knows?

The upside of XBL is that developers don't have to implement their own online distribution for content (so many do for 360 games), the downside is that it is closed.

The game does not have to be recoded to allow you to play music from the system menu. If you want custom playlists and such saved into the game I can understand, but music from your system on the XMB for the PS3. That can be done via update just like scaling i'd figure.

Edit: I tihnk you quoted the wrong guy :).

Yep, I did.

No, and just like I said in my post, then you are playing the music in addition to the game. Its kinda like turning on your stereo while you're playing. It's probably not a difficult to implement option. Who knows, maybe they will.
