Anyone else hear of any problems like this? bought a new 360 elite yesterday and havent been able to play the damn thing because it locks up, most i got into a game was 10min, then the screen totally freezes sometimes with screen artifacts, usually just freezes the image.

no red ring of death or anything, the powerlight stays green

Sounds like you got a bad box. I got an Elite the week of launch (returned my Premium) and it's smooth as silk. The only quirk I've noticed is that viewing/comparing games on my friend's list was a little slow lately, but everything has gone back to normal. I'd say take it back.

agreed, take that POS back.

Way to go, Microsoft. I'm SO glad I got rid of my 360. I won't touch another one until I KNOW they're the revised chips.

Looks like the "launch" of the Elite is like launching a whole new console. Glitches 'n all.

Heh, right. One reported glitch and you jump on the sony bandwagon. My elite is nice and smooth.

This isn't the only report. Seems MS once again fucked it up somehow. I'm still waiting for a stable build to finally purchase a 360.

xbox360 'elite' beta.

Darn did I miss the signup date? hey it's just a beta the real one will look ... wait a sec.

lmao. I kid.

He didn't say one *word* about Sony, what the hell are you talking about? 360 is a shoddy piece of manufacturing, pure and simple, and it has nothing to do with Sony, Nintendo, or anyone else except MICROSOFT.

There is absolutely no guaruntee that a 65nm process is going to magically make things all better. I'm on my second console, only because I upgraded to the Elite. I know that there are people that have had problems, but as long as you follow the follow the rules to a T [like no surge protector] and have an extended warranty he should be in good shape for at least 2 years.

I ended up tracking down a store that had the elites in stock and exchanged mine last night, didn't have time to hook it up though, will do this afternoon.
One guy at the return desk said he bought an elite when they launched and hasn't had a single issue... the 360 failures had made me shy away from one, but i figured everything will have it's flaws, much like my old ps1 did. If this one is bad too, then im getting a refund.

Another happy Elite owner! No problems at all. Still have my premium as well.

And yet another happy elite owner. I hardly play mine though....I'm never home...

My Elite froze when I got it like 3 or 4 times in 3 days...Then after that, I haven't really had a problem again. *knocks on wood*

I had 2 premiums before that, and never had a problem with them...The elite is the only one to every have a hiccup...But hopefully its gone now...

No offense to any of you 360 owners, but it's a shame when you have to "knock on wood" or "hope for the best" when it comes to the stability of your $500 investment. It really sickens me that the situation even exists ... I'd like to have another 360 but I just can't bring myself to risk the money again. I still have an NES from the freaking 80s that's more stable than half the 360's I've played with.

Here is what I don't get that everyone thinks this is the only time anything has ever had a high defective rate. PS2 dvd drives anyone? I went through 3 original xboxs personally. Who here has ever had a computer crap out on them?

Yeah the 360 defective rate is probably a bit definitely outside the 3-5% they claim. I would say it sits somewhere around 9-10%, which blows, plain and simple. But there's so many people on this forum that go into each 360 thread just to post that extra glue isn't going to help or how it's sad. Gimme a break and stop trolling.

Back to the OP. I would say your box got dropped. That'll happen. I've heard much better stories on the elite then the premium on the few forums I read, anyone want to point me to the contrary? Every report I've seen on a dead elite has been related to poor handling so far.

I'm a very happy Elite owner. But I can't help but notice that the DVD drive went from barely audible to kind of loud in just a few weeks. No freezes.

No, there's no guarantee, but the fact that the 65nm chips will use less power and run *cooler* greatly increases the odds of the system being more reliable :)

Hopefully they'll change the form factor too, 360's kinda ugly IMHO. not as ugly as PS3, but damn close.

Like the other guy said...I said nothing about Sony. Trust me, I will never be a PS3 owner unless they come down to like 10 bux 50 years from now or somethin'. I might get one just to see what Sony was fussing about with the then extinct "Blu-Ray" technology that they thought would be a big hit but flopped like they did after losing billions from the PS3 launch.
The point of my post was to express my disappointment with Microsoft. After all the bugs and problems they had with the launch of the original 360, you'd think they would put more thought before rushing the Elite into the market. But from what I've been reading, there are quite a few disappointed people that took back or sold their original 360 just to get a black one that doesn't work. That's right....most people bought the Elite for one reason. Because it's black. 3 dollars for a can of paint could have gotten you the same thing. Like heat wasn't an issue with the 360s enough already. Smart. For people that truly bought it for HDMI capability...well I hope you can see a difference and enjoy it. For people that bought it just for the 120gb hard drive...you probably stopped reading this already out of frustration with all the letters so nevermind.

As far as the PS3 goes, I think that competition in the video game console market is a good thing. Too bad the 360 doesn't have any.

Congrats on your Elite. I'm glad it's working well. I appreciate any fellow 360 owner out there. I enjoy the hell out of mine. Been playing alot of Rainbow 6 Vegas for the last 4 days since I started playing it online. Lotta fun.

new system seems to be working ok so far, guess it was just a bad unit.
now i have to find a spot thats well ventilated to keep the 360 in so it doesnt overheat
and just to head off the "why get an elite its just black", i didn't have a 360... so i figured if i'm getting one, might as well spend 79dollars more and get a bigger hdd and hdmi, and black does look better.
