Recertified: Westinghouse 42" 16:9 8ms 1080p LCD TV Model LVM-42W2-B

That sounds like a nice deal on a 1080P LCD. It would be really smoking if it has like a year warranty.

I'll keep my eyes open on this deal. I'd like to know what the warranty options are (Factory or third party).

warranty through westinghouse is okay......

a couple of my friends sent shit in and this is what happened

first friend 37" - called about his westy and told them that it just doesn't turn on. he had to pay 100 dollars to ship his monitor to westinghouse and they returned it in about 3 weeks....

2nd friend 22" - called westy....the westy was flashing on and off all the time. called westinghouse, this model hasn't even been out for even a year yet but they wanted a receipt. he had bought it at the best buy black friday sale and if anything, they should cover warranty still cause he didn't have receipt. He said he had the buying of the monitor on his best buy credit card on the date of black friday and it's the only thing he bought that night....they said they'll get back to him if he can ship it back......

Just finish talking to Westinghouse and they told me some info. The units are "Remanufactured" so they only come with 90 day warranty from the date of delivery. He did say at 999, it is a great price and would recomend getting insurance through a third party vendor. Hmm this is a hard decision now. Any toughts welcomed.

I just picked up a 47" Westy and I love it. Best purchase I've made in a very long time. I picked mine up from Best Buy for $1450, and opted to get the service plan for $150. In my opinion, spending the $150 was more than justified to cover the $1500 of the TV, especially hearing how Westinghouse support isn't the greatest.

I would only buy it if you can get a service plan, or insurance or whatever they're calling it these days. Or you can wait until next weekend for the big Memorial Day sales that are sure to happen. A guy at Circuit City told me that they were slashing a 42" Hitachi Plasma from $1500 to 800 for the weekend, so the deals should be pretty good! I love my Westy and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one... but thats a lot of money to spend on something, especially when you know that it already broke once!

You might also want to have a peek at the Westinghouse "monitors". They don't have tuners, and have a crapier remote, but they are very nice.

When I picked mine up this weekend, I remember seeing a 42" Westinghouse at Best Buy for $999. Not sure what was up with it, as I had my sights on the 47, but I know it wasn't open box. I'd head out to best buy and check it out and see if it would work for what you need.

I've had my 42" westy for a while now and I love it. The 1080P is great for a computer screen and then to watch OTA HD tv on it is great. Contrast could be a bit better but for the price tough to beat... especially at 999 :) I got mine for 1300 but had all kinds of coupons from BB for it. I did however get the warranty.

I love mine. Picked it up from Woot.com for $1055 shipped

It is probably the 720p version, not the 1080p, hence the cheap price.

Wasn't the one on Woot the 720p version?

anyone have any problems with the westinghouses being such low contrast ratios? the specs seem inferior compared to something like a samsung that has minimum 4000:1 whereas the westy only is 1000:1. just wondering, i have nothing against westy's i am just curious as to how they stack up compared to other displays.

for the doubting n00bs linky to the woot blog
this eliminated sales tax and shipping (sorta).

This wasn't that much of a deal.
I saw this, but I passed. You can add about $150 and get a brand new 42'' with full 1 year warrenty.
The woot deal lasted for a while.

K00lance where can I get this monitor new for 150 more? I have been looking and cheapest has been 1350 plus shipping. Thanks for any info..

Check with your credit card company to see if they offer a free warranty. Some will also sell you an extended warranty. But also check to see what you have to go through to get it fulfilled.

I RMA'd my Westy 37" and since it was messed up when I bought it they paid shipping cost, but I was out a monitor for 1 month. But they did everything I asked, backlight panel issue and updated firmware for PS3 HDMI hand shake problem.

The 4000:1 ratio is likely the "dynamic" contrast, aka a completely useless bit of information. The Westy ratio is static. Though they do have a few quirks, Westinghouse monitors are known for excellent picture quality.

Will there be any deals on HDTV's this weekend? anyone know

Should be some good deals, for sure!
