Been getting readings of 77C when running 3dmar06 once or twice and am getting pop ups saying OVERHEAT. From the Nvidia monitor View. I set the Threshold to 75C so yea.. I don't think these are normal temps unless everyone else is getting the same degrees as me. I have the Super clocked Evga 8800gtx. I have good airflow and all that.

My GTX tops out at 92C during gaming/3dmark/ATiTool stress. Its pretty common with the stock cooler. You need to up that threshold.:p

waw brb while I go get some meat to cook them on my card. Jeez

Lol yeah I know. I'm waiting for Arctic Cooling to come out with another NV Silencer for the 8800s, since the Thermalright HR-03 is just too damn big.

yea I saw that thing. Basically a chunk o metal so you can have even bigger steaks.

65-70 idle here, probably 90+ load, depending on how hot the room is.

57C Idle with the HR-03, and that's with very quiet fans pushing almost no air out of my case

I have seen the reviews about it and decreases in temps. Still to big for my taste.

barefoot what fan did u put on yours and realistically what temps did u have b4 and after... im thinkn bout gettn one for my card which idles at 61c in my 36c case.... :(

Well, the 8800 GTX has 2D clocks which are the same as its 3D clocks. Sometimes, I wonder whether or not this is required, given such a powerful card. I think they could've done throttling for 2D.

a yate loon real quiet one, the popular ones for quietness. I have a hot p180 as in all of my fans are those or the antec tri cools, either way, not much air is pushed out so i assume this card could be cooler.

53 idle with stock HSF with fan set to 80 duty all time. It's not loud and it does a good job of cooling.

I've never seen my card break 80c under full load - tested across a number of modern games.

Rivatuner is all you need :)

well i got an exhaust fan below my card with an x-fi in-between :S and a 120mm fan blowing across the card, i still get 85 odd degrees on load :( what else can i do?
thanks

[Snip..] I have good airflow and all that.

I'd say this is the issue, you need more-better temps!!one1!

My idle temps are around 52-53 core, ambient is 41ish and at load I barely get past 73 core and 55 ambient. All OC'd btw.

and LOL !:D

how do you get your temps so low? i think my single 120mm intake fan may be the problem.

I'm getting Crash to Desktop all the time in BF2 with my 8800 GTS suddenly.

I've played for hours before, but now, for some reason, it crashes all the time.

My idle temp is 71C though, not sure what load is, but that's damn hot.

I looked at other reviews and the idle temp was 56C on this same card. I wonder why it's running so hot.

Now I don't feel so bad that my X1950 tops out at 82C load :p Wish I had the GTX performance though...

was yours clogged with dust then?
i'm just going for water, sorts everything.

Well, I have cats so the hair gets sucked into the fans some times. I did get 6C lower with some compressed air, but 66C at idle still seems hot.

I have a Corsair Nautilus so maybe I'll just add the block to it.

hm.. my gtx is coming upto 6 months. with a dog in the house i reckon there could be some dust. ill try un-clog it :)
thanks 4 the tips.
water block 4 me still tho.

Even though nobody is interested, my crashing problems were not due to my 8800 but rather to my CPU overclock.

yep, theres my x-fi below my 8800gtx then an exhause fan below that. theres also a 120mm exhaust above the 8800gtx. im wondering if its clogged- i have had it 6 monthes now.

when are they going to come out with something um smaller? or maybe something less that looks like the top of a bbq grill?. I'm still waiting lol. :D

I have the same box as you, but I'm a stickler for wire management. I have a slew of RAID'd HDD's, so I bought an additional iCage for them. I also purchased the better 120mm and 90mm fans, which are a tad louder @ max, but cool much better and can run @ higher RPM's (with close to the same db) and do much better cooling than the stock fans.

It's also just in the cards (pun intended). Some cards have just the right amount of thermal paste and components with the right thermal boundaries. Others run warmer and will need more attention.

I'd start with wire management though, as a messy case can easily drop temps -5°C or more. Then move on to better fans, which can drop another 2-5°C. If that doesn't work, I'd consider re-applying thermal paste to the Gfx Card and ensure you don't have the area around the card blocked from airflow.

Good luck!

Edit: also, just noticed this:

If you don't have your ambient temps worked out in your case, you could be limiting yourself to the optimal benefits of a WC system. I'd suggest trying a few things w/ air, sort out any un-needed heat issues and then move up to WC for even better temps; and concurrently, longer life-span from your equipment.

I tried waiting, but I finally just pulled the trigger on a Thermalright HR-03 Plus. Should be here wednesday. I'm gonna try to run it fanless at first since I have a 100cfm 250mm fan blowing directly over all my PCI slots

You can literally cook an egg on that.
I know its pretty rediculous. Thats at 80% fan speed. If I crank it to 100% it only lowers by a couple degrees. They really need to start coming up with better HSF ideas. Hopefully the aforementioned HR-03 Plus will solve my problems.

<--- 8800 GTS and hasn't hit 65C load on most games that i played on... also i am usin stock heatsink too, and my vc is already oc'd to 621/1000 no problem. i must have gotten cherry picked vc? :D or is it someone having bad luck?

my room temp is at 70F or around, room temp.

Note: I am using rivatuner to put my GTS fan @ full speed plus oc'd, too.

You must have missed the fact that many of us are idling @ 45 or lower and our loads never go above 65; as mentioned above. All this even when OC'd. The stock HSF is pretty dope IMO, better than the previous generations.

I dont think I've seen anyone say that with a GTX, maybe GTS's though. I've never seen my GTX idle any lower than 59C with the AC unit cranking, and 80% fan speed. I never turn it up to 100% due to the noise issue. I've even taken off the hs and cleaned off the stock thermal paste(which there was waaaaaaay too much of), and put on AS5, with no temp drop.

Theres a few things I could think of to make the stock HSF better:
1. make the fan blades bigger(like the ones on the AC Silencer series, those were awesome)
2. get rid of those slits at the end of the card
3. dont use enough thermal paste for 5 GTXs(thats literally how many cards I could have covered with how much I scraped off)

Sure the hsf is a good design, but definately not good enough for the heat output of a GTX.

HR-03 Temps are a huge difference compared to stock Heatsinks. so I can't complain :). Its a great heatsink for the 8800Gtx and gt's.

Yea but the temps compared to the stock Heatsinks are amazing compared to it. So I cant complain all that much :) .

wow, my 2900 XT tops out at 79'C load. compared to some of your cards my card is cool, LOLOLOLOLOL.

Sell your "superclocked" GTX for a regular version. Use the price difference to buy a Thermalright HR-03 Plus VGA cooler for the GTX. Then you will be able to OC your card even higher than the "superclocked".
