Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

Wow. I waited until Sunday afternoon to place my order. Sounds like I was very lucky.

Though some of the reports of how mangled the box was when it arrived are freaking me out.

Same here, which is why I'm going to tip the UPS guy 5 bucks or so to wait while I open it up and test it real quick before I sign for it.

Actually what Newegg says is the following:
Original Price: $1,299.99
You Save: $300.00
$999.99
3 Business Day Shipping $69.99
(Not available in HI, AK and PR)
Out of Stock (ETA:06/08/2007)
On another note, mine is out for delivery tomorrow but I am going to be out of town. Will have to get it from work on Friday :(
==================
Wow, I had been to Egg just before, and they had none, and no est. date.
Well anyway Katmai, Good luck with your shiny new Westy.
How about some "Close-up face shots" when it comes in, so we can see "How Good is Westy with Face-Details ??" Big Thanks !!
"Close-Up Face Details"-------that's what I long to see, and no one does it.
Instead, they show pics of their Computer Setup, and their new Westy is just one of the things in the pic. :) :)

B&H Photo still has it ($1150 shipped) and they're among the best stores ever... but I don't know about their return policy. They probably don't accept any on such large items...

i went ahead and purchased it from B&H. although i paid $1240.45 (1099.99 + 140.50 shipping + no tax). that 1150 is from pricegrabber which has a wrong shipping fee (says 50 bucks). cheapest online retailer might be pcnation right now. they've got it for 1125 + free shipping. but i went with B&H because their reseller ratings were a bit higher than pcnation.

hi guys long time lurker and i've been keeping my eyes on this thread bc the ps3 issue was the only thing holding me back from getting this monitor. Is this comfirmed that the 1.8 fixes the handshake?
My 37w3 monitor says the firmware version is "V1. 80" which I assume means 1.8 and I still have the PS3 HDMI handshaking issue. I have to toggle inputs or press the "I" button on the remote to get the screen to quit spazzing out. Someone reported that 1.81 fixed the issue but I don't know. Also, putting an HDMI receiver inbetween the PS3 and the monitor is supposed to fix the problem but that is an expensive solution.

Yeah I'm lucky I got it when I did, it got discontinued shortly after. Now how am I going to get the extra side shelves? I should have chose those over getting the drawer (which is for the OTHER jerker desk, how confusing).

I drove 100 miles looking for the jerker last month cause there was a chance it was at the new haven CT store. They were all gone. We need a good replacement :(

I do see them on craigslist but already assembled. How to transport it I don't know unless its easy to take apart?

To all who are disappointed at the scarceness of the 37" Westy and are (rightfully) thinking that it might be hard to find in the future---do remember that now the 42" can be found for less than $1300 from a lot of e-tailers. It's not the same (some may not like the larger size), and I really don't remember whether the banding issues have been solved on it, but it would still make a good purchase IMHO. :)

It comes fully assembled in the box. It's not enormous, I could see it easily fitting into any back seat (it'd take up the whole back seats, but it'd fit).

okay please excuse my picture skills...they suck. Any advice would be helpful. anyways the first 2 pictures are SD and the last 2 are of OCC on Discovery HD. I haven't fine tuned the settings for my cable box yet. But i've set the Explorer 3250HD box to output @ 720P through DVI connected to my Westy through DVI-1 with no problems.

Does the westinghouse have the option to not stretch SD content and keep it in 4:3?

Yes it does. When in standard mode, you can set the cable box to 4:3 w/o stretch and it displays everything with black bars on the side.

Well I got my Westy in today, I was actually expecting it tomorrow considering last night before I went to bed it still said it was in California. The box had two huge holes punctured where the front of the monitor was. I thought the worse, but was pleasantly surprised to find not only is it working perfectly but there are no dead pixels. Also, while there are A LOT of great pictures in this thread, I must say, none of them do it justice for how big it is.

*edit* Audio works fine, I had it set on external before I had setup my speaker system.

I took a lot of pictures of the box when it first arrived, opening it, setting it up, etc.. I'll try to post them sometime when I'm not playing with my Westy if anyone still cares to see them.

Finally, a special thanks to all the posts in this thread for the great info. I almost bought a crappy smaller lcd before I stumbled upon this thread. The UPS guy even said he was thinking of buying one since he saw what a great deal it was.

Has anyone bought the 47" ?
It has a higher contrast ratio (1200:1) and a faster response time (6.5ms)

I'm sure it would look great watching movies or gaming but I'm worried about how 1920x1200 would look like when I'm doing general PC work.

10" more space with the same amount of pixels. Anyone know how crisp the image is? Is the 47" worth it or not? :D

Its 1920x1080. But anyhow, it wouldn't be good up right in front of your face for PC use. 37 is PLENTY big, and it took a little adjusting for me when I switched from 19'' to 37''. I honestly couldn't see using anything bigger with the same resolution. However, if you want it for HTPC use, it would be well worth it.

The sides come off of the desk, you just need a allen wrench.

Holy crap, your SD looks even better than mine... and mine is pretty darn good, by my standards anyway. Gotta love this monitor. :D

btw, 4000+ posts and counting...

Ugh. I really don't know if I should just get the 37W2. I kinda already posted this (>.>), but... $800 at Best Buy... but with tax and a 4 year extended warranty, it's only a little less than $1000. I could buy it new there, or... I could get a display model with warranty and tax for only $700. What would you do?
btw, how are the black levels on this tv compared to the Olevia 537h? And the IQ in general... is it significantly better than the Olevia TVs?

edit: Just a request for anyone who might take some pictures soon... if you wouldn't mind, could you maybe take a few pictures of a DVD in 480p (not upscaled)? Specifically, Star Wars. >_> I read a complaint somewhere about the color of outer space in Star Wars battles being more of a gray color on the Westinghouse TVs than a dark black. I don't expect the blacks to be exceptional, but I just want to know that it isn't that bad. Also, I want to see what non-upscaled DVDs would look like.
Oh yeah. If you have a Wii, pictures of some game running on one of the Westinghouse LTV models would be nice too. Thanks.

wish I could find a good price on one nowadays, I hate that they are disappearing :( that pcnation site has terrible reviews not to mention I don't like how they so dirtily did 49lbs for the westy and 1 lbs for the warranty pushing it over the limit for free shipping. while it may not be intentional it definitely seems so. in any case, if anyone knows of a cheap, reputable place to get one between now and when the backorder arrives at newegg let me know!

It is too big. i just got mine 5 days ago. it dominates my 14x14ft bedroom. I'm still doing most normal pc stuff on my Dell 2007wfp. The LVM-47w1 is crisp as can be over HDMI/DVI, using an 8800gtx (xfx xxx edt.). smaller pixels than the 50" viewsonic plasma we use at work to multiplex all our security cameras on.

On a side note, what is with the HDMI/DVI cable scam? i see many retailers selling these cables for $80-150.
And are power conditioners a good investment? one of my co-workers had a BB employee talk him into buying a $300 Monster power conditioner for his 62" rear projection.

I ordered from PCNation 2 month ago for 1070.00 shipped and it got here in 4 days shipped VIA FedEx. The box came in great shape and the display had no dead pixels.

I bought mine from PC nation 3 months ago for $1074 shipped. My shipping was free and took about 5 days to get to me (that was Fedex fault). I had no problems with PC Nation what so ever would recommend. Oh and the box had a whole on the side from the FEDEX guy bringing it up on his head coming up the stairs to my apartment. Had no dead pixels and the panel has been amazing so far!

ahh, interesting. thanks for the feedback :) in any case though, they are 1125 shipped now so its hard to justify the extra. I'd buy a westy in a flash for $1050 or less shipped

now I'm looking at 24's and 27's and more so at the 32" Sharp GP1U since the prices are higher. just wish a vendor would step in to take mah money :D

Finally!!!

Got my LVM-37W 37'" Westinghouse yesterday....

After many months of searching, reading and waiting I've decided to buy it.
The main problem was the shipping, cause I live in Europe, but fortunately it went smooth and the box doesn't have any signs of damage.

I would like to thank you for all your hints and reviews. This thread is awesome...

In fact I ordered 2 of them and the second one arrived today :):):)

In few minutes I will post some pictures.

Buy them at monoprice.com

I've just uploaded some photos:

I have too smal desk, LOL

dsc00085le5.jpg

The distance between my head and monitor is under 3 feets.
When I am playing bf2 I feel totally overwhelmed :p
I didn't notice any ghosting and this distance for webrowsing is ok.

Yesterday, after few hours of having fun with this lcd my eyes were very sore.
I have very senitive eyes and being so excited of this beautiful thing i forgot to lower the backlight. Today when I set the backlight level from 5 to 1, I have no problems.

Christ, for $100 less you could get an APC RS 1500 UPS and get power conditioning plus almost a half hour of battery backup!

Can anyone confirm this?
I was about to buy this display from PCNation this weekend. Is it true that if I buy the warranty the free shipping stops been free?
Or, is there a better place where I can get it? I want cheap prices, and warranty.
By the way, I live on Miami, Florida (USA).

do we know for a fact that the backorder WILL arrive at newegg? i have a sneaking suspicion about this due to the fact that the 37" AND the 42" are on back order at the same time...

try adding it to cart. I'm not sure if its intentional or just a coincidence. add the tv and see free shipping and then add warranty and its gone. however, as the 2 above said, they seem to be really on the ball guys. if I was you I'd just call them and I bet they'd order over the phone with it having free shipping.

just ordered from pcnation. all seems well, thanks again for the feedback you other pcnation customers! you really helped push me towards them even though I'll be paying $50 more :D

To avoid the shipping fee if present when ordering the extended warranty just place 2 separate credit card orders. The monitor and Mack warranty need not be on the same invoice. I called PC Nation to verify...you have like 30 days to order the extended warranty....I just told them I couldn't afford the warranty at this moment in time though they really pushed ordering it with the monitor.

Sapphire X1950 Pro PCIE 512mb is my card of choice....will let you all know how it goes.

duce3 is who helped me decide to order from PCNation and they even called me on my cell to verify that I was the legitimate credit card holder which I though was great because I have actually had problems with my identity being stolen. I say that if you don't have one yet you better hurry becuase they are selling out and this has been the best thing I have ever purchased from my computer. Repeat of pics but oh well everyone like looking at pics of this thing right?

I say jump on it if you don't have one yet. BTW I was able to call PCNation and get right through to an actual person before ordering to make sure they had it in stock so if you are worried about the reseller ratings just call first and make sure they still have them. I paid 1070.00 shipped but after having it I would have no problems paying and extra $100.00 for it.

Got a question for you folks...

The Westy is awesome, NO dead pixels, gorgeous color and Newegg/UPS got it here in one piece despite the scuffed / dented box. It works well, but it does something screwy when the computer goes into monitor power-save mode.

OK, running the following:

A8N-SLI Deluxe BIOS 1014
A64 4400+ X2
Asus 7800GT
XP SP2
GeForce video 93.71

Westy LVM-37W3 1.80

Buncha drives, fans, a tin box to hold 'em all and a Jerker v2 to hide under/ hold it up... :)

The monitor will go into full power down the first time power save occurs, maybe the second time, but unless I power-cycle the monitor, successive power saves only black the screen while the backlights remain on. This has happened on the HDMI and DVI1 connections, haven't tried it on the VGA. The power-save worked perfectly with the P275 IBM "bottle", the only thing different is the 37W3.

Ideas?

No, I won't sell the Westy because it won't do this right... :D
