Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

Thanks for the compliments, yes it's the 37", I just haven't taken off that sticker yet. I have Time Warner Cable, and since these monitors don't have a tuner you can use the cable box provided by them to output the cable signal with the usual outputs( Component, DVI, HDMI ) for HD things. the older ones still have composite, s-video, and coaxial. It also gives you a guide menu, controller and all that good stuff. I'll put up some pictures when I get it to show off the TV aspect.

I don't have this TV yet, but I'll buy it pretty soon. But yeah, it looks cool with the sticker. Is pretty much like getto people, that they leave the tag in their clothing just to show off. This is pretty much the same thing.......SEXY, arrrrr :) :p
 
I doubt anyone remembers, but a few months ago I posted pics of how absolutely horrible my ps2 looks on the westinghouse even over component. Well, I got a new ps2 and it is actually playable now, no added ghosting or dark muddy images. I have no idea why that was happening, but I'm happy I can play ps2 games again.
 
Yeah I'm lucky I got it when I did, it got discontinued shortly after. Now how am I going to get the extra side shelves? I should have chose those over getting the drawer (which is for the OTHER jerker desk, how confusing).
 
Now i been reading this thread forever but i was wondering would newegg be my best bet to get this monitor? How likely is it to that i received one w/ 1.8 fw(for ps3 use)? Also i was wondering if westinghouse would be coming out with a new version of this monitor this year? I dunno if i should get it now or wait...its driving me crazy...:mad:
 
I cannot answer about the 1.8 firmware, but AFAIK a 37" monitor is not included in Westinghouse's new line, the TX series, that will be launched shortly. There will be a 42", a 47", and a 52" model, all 1080p and all with built-in tuners (so they will be actually TVs and no longer monitors).
 
Just got the 47" (LVM-47w1) 2 days ago and it's HUGE. Anyone who said it was too big for a monitor was right. using chat programs with white backgrounds isn't very comfortable. it's just too much glowing brightness to look at. Movies and games though look amazing. Once i get a decent camera and do some much needed cable management i'll post pics. i had to re-arrange my entire bedroom around this thing.

Well I just got my monitor from newegg like a week and a half ago and the firmware is 1.8. I don't have a ps3 to test with though so I don't know if it will work.

One other thing i cant stand is a dead pixel so did u get any dead pixel?
 
To check the firmware: press Menu (button right of the up arrow), then move to the "&" section, and choose System Info.
 
Is it a firmware issue or ps3 related?

I ask this because pages back, people were reporting that it was on sony's end, not westinghouse's.
 
I got the W3 from Newegg last Friday. It arrived from UPS in a box that has a massive hole in the side with the rest of the box pretty well scuffed / dropped.

I took a chance and opened it up. The monitor is perfect. It has no dead pixels or scuffs or anything, and it also has firmware 1.8.

Newegg 1070 shipped.

No dead pixels with mine. arrived this past friday 5/11; just got my HD cable box today, i'll snap some picts later tonight, and post'em tomorrow. i still need to get the settings right. any suggestions are welcome.

right now I have it connected:

DVI-1 : HD cable box w/ no HDCP problems-- Explorer 3250HD; hopefully getting a brand new one tomorrow
DVI-2 : Computer
VGA : xBox 360
Component-1: Wii

One question tho; when I watch some of the SD channels there is the garble at the top of the screen. Now I know this monitor doesn't overscan (unless told to) and I'm assuming it's just coming from the different broadcasters and is usually hidden b/c regular TV's do have overscan by nature(DLPs, rear projection, tube, most lcds/plasmas). anyways we are having the Cable guy come out tomorrow to prolly put another booster in & check signal strength (3 boxes and premium road runner service & a TV in almost every room) Hopefully it'll help a lil. All i can say is that i'm in love with this monitor!!
 
Okay, so it's night, and I have to keep the window open because it's gorram hot, and I like to keep my lights off....... but like this, the Westy is the only source of light and it's attracting all sorts of flies, mosquitos, and whatnot.

Apart from being annoying, is there any real danger that these buggers crap on my $1200 panel and/or scratch it and/or godknowswhatelse?

so i go to newegg just now to purchase this monitor to get ready for forza 2 and halo 2, but its sold out. any other reputable retailers have this monitor for less than 1050 before tax and shipping? that's some luck i have... been checking newegg everyday for the past couple weeks hoping for it to drop below 999 and now its out of stock right when i want to purchase it :mad:

You can order one from sams club thats if u got a sams card. Its 1047 i believe but shipping im not sure of...but if theres a problem u can return it.

First I bought mine in Feb for $1074 shipped from PC Nation. Came perfect with no dead pixels. Actually I take that back the front bezel was popped of a tad bit at the bottom right corner of the panel. I unscrewed the back screw and it popped right back into place and has been fine ever since. As for Forza 2 and Halo 2 on this screen I would pass. The screen is to good for those games. I played the Forza 2 demo and if it is not in 1080p it looks like ass. Since i am really disappointed with the demo I will stick with GTR 2 and my F1 2007 mod. As for halo 2 it looks so freaking bad i didn't know what to do. But again it is in 480p so you have to take it with a grain of salt. This screen is amazing by the way. Been watching a ton of dvd's on it and from about 6 - 7 feet away they look amazing. HD-DVD will blow them out the water but as for not having to replace all of my movies I am happy.

hi guys long time lurker and i've been keeping my eyes on this thread bc the ps3 issue was the only thing holding me back from getting this monitor. Is this comfirmed that the 1.8 fixes the handshake? Thanks in advance.

Wherever you buy, make sure you can return it. That's why I preferred to spend a little more, back in January, and pay $1199 from Crutchfield.

I wouldn't expect anywhere to restock. The new TX series is coming, but no 37 inch size. Arrival date is probably sometime in the next 2 weeks
 
B&H Photo still has it ($1150 shipped) and they're among the best stores ever... but I don't know about their return policy. They probably don't accept any on such large items...

You can thank me for that. I was going to wait until Monday to order it (since it wouldn't ship till then anyway), but decided last Saturday that I better get my order in before it sells out... And sure enough it was then sold out.

Sorry man, good luck getting it elsewhere. I haven't checked zipzoomfly, but I always liked them too for getting stuff. PCNation is also good.

RMA update........

I just received my replaced Westy from Newegg at work, luckily I live in a really small town and the UPS guy is a electronics geek so he has no problem helping me tear apart anything I receive to decide whether or not I sign for it.

Upon inspection of the box, this one was even more mangled than the previous one I received, also this one had a huge hole on the right, display side of the box, I was about to say take it back right then and there, but I decided to open it up, take it out and see what happens.

So far so good, no physical signs of damage to the Westy or any signs of tampering. My biggest fear was that Newegg was going to send me back the same monitor in the same or a different box.

Next I plugged it in to make sure it even turned on, after seeing the box, I was very doubtful that it would. (I'll try to post a picture of the box when I get home from work)

The monitor turned on, and the display turned on, no buzzing noise either. Now it was time to test whether or not it could keep a signal without the display shutting off. I connected one of the computers that I have on display in the store (VGA connection) fired it up and it was working like it should so I decided to sign for it and will give more updates later tonight/tomorrow.

Just a note, the previous Westy had 1.0 firmware my replacement is 1.8.
 
Hey guys.. I just got mine delivered today. Bought it for $999 on newegg and paid about 70-75$ shipping. I saw it in Best Buy yesterday for $1550 and laughed.

I've been using a 19" flat screen CRT at 1280x1024 for a few years and I've never owned an LCD.

I've downloaded a couple LCD color test things etc., and no dead pixels. Everything looks great. I remember reading on this thread about people turning down the brightness.. the black on my screen looks black, and the color testing I did showing 1%, 3% brightness I could tell the difference. Is it common to lower the brightness because this is fine with me.

I'll post pictures in a few days (either before or after I get my new computer set up so I can actually run games at this resolution)..

Anyway, thanks for recommending it guys.

I have to say this is quite ridiculous.. I can't stop giggling.
 
Can anyone tell me the exact weight of the westy? I want to know if my desk can handle the beast before i pull the trigger.
 
Newegg shipment said 53 pounds.. I had somebody help me put it in place (awkward position) but the UPS guy carried it in himself.

Crutchfield now says "no longer available".
NewEgg as of today is out of stock "we'll send you e-mail when (if) we get more".
2 weeks ago Pricegrabber listed many vendors selling it.
Today, Pricegrabber lists only these 4 .....

200 pages of love, all for the westy! I can believe that it is starting to disappear, it is such a great monitor and people are catching on to it. Got a guy I know to get one last week and he loves his. What I can't believe is that Westinghouse isn't releasing another one to replace it. I guess it wasn't the best chose for a stand alone TV only. But it rocks as a monitor!

Wow. I waited until Sunday afternoon to place my order. Sounds like I was very lucky.

Though some of the reports of how mangled the box was when it arrived are freaking me out.
