I really need to add content filtering to my network for about 25 users (but may be up to 50 in the future)

I am looking at SonicWall products but not only are they a bit expensive there is also a subscription to their service for Content filtering. Currently I am using a Windowss 2000 server system for DNS, DHCP and to share the internet to the network.

Any one here have any advice for me, I know I could use a Linux firewall but I would much rather use a hardware firewall.(if the linux firewall is good enough I will use it though)

We use 'squid' that runs on linux - squid is just a proxy server/cache but we use filtering addons to block/log activity.

We use Smart Filter coupled with our Cisco 2801 router. The 2801 forwards all http/https traffic to the Smart Filter server (just a WinXP box) then the users automatically authenticate with the Smart Filter software. The software is all integrated with Active Directory, allowing us to filter content based on User or Group accounts.

My favorite product is Websense. It can get expensive, but it's one of the best products available. If you are looking to get cheap, set up a Linux proxy with Squid, Dans Guardian, and a black list.

For only 25 users, IPcop would be a great option, and very reliable as well. Using the combination of Advproxy, Urlfilter, and downloading the blacklists from urlblacklist.com works very well for up to about 500 users, if you have a decent box to put it on.

But if you just don't want to do that, going with a sonicwall would probably be your best (cheapest) option.
