Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

General Crespin:
First of all, I wanted to say: WOW, nice collection of games dude. I've never seen so many together.:p
Also, ummm. Why didn't you care to at least pretend to clean that room before posting the picture. :p LOL. J/K. Mine is exactly the same. :)

x-kid:
Nice setup dude. I like it how you have it all clean. Looks nice.
Now, where did you got that desk? As far as I know, it got discontinued a while ago, so, how are people still buying them?

Thanks for the complements Odin75. We'll see how long it stays clean. Eventually stuff just gets thrown all over the desk then I'll have to clean it up again. I always say I'm not just gonna put stuff all over the desk but that never happens. As for the desk I bought it off a fellow craigslister. The desk was in perfect condition too. I got really lucky that he posted it the last week when I ordered my monitor. I know I was gonna need one because the desk I had before was just a glass L-shaped desk.

what desk is that? from ikea or something?

Some will say that "your cable management sucks"... but not everyone is bothered by the sight of cables, myself included, so that's one big shrug right there. Good setup and enjoy your Westy. :)

yea I just put the desk together this morning. and actually today is the first time I really played with the westy. I'm gonna try to work on the cable management sometime this week when I have more time.

I have a VERY important question.

Does anyone have Starcraft installed on the computer that has their Westinghouse attached?

I know on my 2407WFP (Dell 24" widescreen) I can set the display properties to be "Aspect Ratio" which keeps the display at 4:3 and has two black bars on the side but none on the top/bottom. Essentially I am running Starcraft at 1600x1200 fill/stretch, even though the game is only 800x600 IIRC.

Pixel mapping 1:1 makes the game extremely tiny, think like 4" by 3" in the very center of the monitor where it is absolutely unplayable. Starcraft has no in game settings to change the resolution so this is very essential to my purchase that this monitor can do aspect ratio.

Can anyone test Starcraft on their monitor? I would much appreciate it.

I play starcraft on this monitor. It looks great, the resolution is not filtered/interpolated. The game is actually 640x480. By default it will have the black bars on the sides, but you can use the fill button on the westy's remote to remove them. Aside from that it's up to your video card's scaling settings.

That is clean. ;) :D

Thanks. :)

Does anyone who made a recent purchase of the 37" westy have any suggestions as to the best place to buy it?

Thanks! :D

I bought confidently from Mwave. Been doing so for about 10 years. Never have had a issue with them, my company has spent at least 100k over the past 10 years with them, their return policy is well above par.

I sucked it up and ordered from NewEgg via UPS, since it was coming about 170 miles from their NJ warehouse down Rte 13 in Delaware.

Arrived undamaged (box was a bit scuffed), zero dead pixels.

Happy camper. :D

Congratulations to all the new Westy owners on their new babies, as well as to those who are still... expecting. :D

OMG!

factory refurb Westy! $695!

This vendor is fine, i have bought things from them in the past.

btw..ive had my Westy since jan 07. it truely is the greatest. I use it strictly as my pc Monitor, I play WoW, and it's just plain insane. most peeps fall out when they walk in and see it $$ and the quality for me has been superb!

It's the 37W1 though... but then, that's all we get up here in Canadia.

Just pulled the trigger on this monster.... 1069.99 delivered from the EGG! Hopefully it'll be here before the halo 3 beta.

Like BrownThunder...I just pulled the trigger for a 37w3 from the EGG! $1069.98 too! I CAN'T WAIT!! :D

does newegg ship from the closest warehouse?

hey a fellow delawarean! i live right off of 896 in newark...small world haha. did you buy the w3 after seeing it in a store around here? i'd really like to see it in person before i pull the trigger

I find they ship it from whatever warehouse has it in stock.. possibly. I live in Michigan, and most of my stuff comes from CA, but very rarely it comes from NJ.

I have an RMA status update.

For those who don't know my situation..........
I ordered a Westy through Newegg, received monitor, perfect for 2 days, problems within 3rd day, unusuable within 2 weeks. Complained to Newegg about their Bulk Policy telling them that nobody is expecting their product becoming defective in short period of time after receiving product and that if you can't provide any kind of support after delivery of bulk item that they should not be selling anything classified as such.

Newegg then agreed with RMA and paid shipping UPS both ways.

Now back to the update. Delivery confirmation of Westy to Newegg was the morning of May 1st, I waited 3 days before checking status update and there was no change, I contacted Newegg, told me they would send request to warehouse for update. Today, still no change in status, contacted Newegg again, and told me that from the first request, that they could not find the item in the warehouse, so she told me that she would send another request and actually email me a response.

So, Newegg has had Westy for 6 buisness days and it's nowhere to be found and now I am waiting for an email for another update:mad:

Good to hear that. Tell us how yours arrive since I'm about to pull the trigger in this TV as well in about 3 weeks from newegg as well. But yeah, their warranty is pretty scary. And also, are you guys buying this expensive tv's without warranty?

Well, not so good here. This are the type of comments that hold me back from ordering a TV from newegg since their warranty is not that good. Well, at least not for TV's. So yeah, just hope you get your new baby soon.:)

Please keep up updated about this as I'm hesitant to order it from Newegg also. I have been pleased with their service in the past though.

sorry to hear about your woes with this experience.. I hope it's resolved soon!

hey everyone. this is my first post and i just wanted to thank everyone for their information and pictures of the Westy, without all the work you guys and gals did i prolly would have gotten that Benq fp241w i had my eye on a month ago. As i am typing this, im waiting for a buddy (with a big SUV) to help me pick up my 37" westy from the UPS sort facility. i ordered it from newegg for 999 plus 70$ shipping on sunday night.also, I read someones post asking which newegg wherehouse was the closest to them. If it helps at all mine shipped out of MEMPHIS, TN according to the tracking number website.

so i was in BB today checking out their meager selection of lcd tv's and the sales associate told me that the w3 was discontinued around april 16th. i asked if he meant that BB wasnt carrying it anymore and he said that westinghouse had discontinued the model and that's why they weren't receiving any new w3's. he mentioned a possible debut of a new westy 37" model...anyone have the scoop on this?

thanks

It's most definitely not discontinued and BB has definitely stopped carrying them. And it's not like they don't carry WH products, either... they have the 32w6 (great deal), the 37w1, and a 42" model (also a 47"...?)

I guess the w3 was too good of a deal and they couldn't... what? sell it as a good deal? I don't get it. But it does suck they would say it's discontinued. They've been at it for months now. Someone should go to their local BB, ask, and upon getting this response tell them to look at this thread. Hehe.

My local BB store told me that they don't carry it in stock, but they can order it for $1500 for me. I politely declined...

There is a new 1080p Line due out anyday and BB will have them soon however, there is NO NEW 37" in the new 1080p line. Only a new 42 and 47 due out before the end of this month and a 52 due out this Fall. I think Westy is just going to keep the 37w3 around for a while but the New 42 (NEW MSRP $1,499) will be really affordable come this fall if you compare similar price drops of the life span of the 42w2.

My Westy LVM-37W3 should be in Friday (it's killing me waiting).

I need to go out and grab a 360 VGA cable and a DVI cable.

What DVI-D cable do you recommend? I'd kind of like to get it locally if possible so I don't have to wait, but if there are just plain better bargins online I can take the DVI cable off my LG L204WT and use it till I get one for the westy.

So any links to one that would be in a store like Target / Walmart / Home Depot / whatever.

And any links to one online that you like for a good price?

Is it a DVI-D Male to DVI-D Male Dual Link Digital that is needed?

Something like http://www.computercablestore.com/detail.aspx?ID=10790 ?

Any DVI-D to DVI-D cable will work fine. Keep in mind you don't need dual link, and if you are wanting HDCP for watching HDDVD and Blu-ray, sometimes the handshake errors with a dual-link cable, or it doesn't even work. I don't know why this is, but they talked about it in the last CPU magazine which featured building your own HTPC.

Where is everyone buying theirs?

Newegg seems to be the best if you are looking for the "lowest cost" option.

What about if you want some kind of return policy where the seller pays shipping? I've found Crutchfield but they no longer have the monitor in stock.

Bought mine at Sams Club online - came out to be right around 1200 bucks with shipping - figured worth it in case needs to go back for some reason if something is wrong with it -

You can join online for 40 bucks - note that if you do that you need to call them to confirm the order if it is the first order you have placed online with them - didnt know that but learned it by calling in to check anyway on shipping ETA

If you had the choice between getting the 37w3 for $1000 or getting the 42w2 (42" 1080p) for $1280 including shipping on both prices which would you get?

I am having a very hard time deciding.

I think it's sheer stupidity of Westinghouse not to include a 37" in the new line, considering it's the best selling size.. 42" is just too damn large to be used as a PC monitor, unless you are using a freakishly deep desk. I bet by the time I get the dough saved up, the 37" will be completely gone. :(

I was going to get a Creative Decoder DDTS-100 since I saw my friend had one a year and a half ago on his Westy 37W1.

It appears though that the Creative Decoder DDTS-100 has disappeard off the face of the earth.

Anyone know of any other external DD Decoders so I can have my Westy hooked up to my PC speakers for TV and have my Xbox 360 hooked up to my PC speakers? Perferably something not to expensive. $150 ish.

Depends on a lot of things. What use? TV or monitor? If monitor, from how far? Are those prices from the same store? Did you check their ratings on ResellerRatings.com?

For $1280 I would pick the 42" any day. It's a good price. But that is just me, with my needs and uses for a monitor---dunno about you. :)

Just got the 37".

I was a little concerned about pixel pitch and viewing distance. I think 42" is pushing it for a monitor. I'd hate to have to turn my head to read.
