not sure if this is the right section to post this in.

i have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop.

my wireless card is the intel pro wireless 2200bg. I have been able to detect wireless networks but most of the time I cant connect to them, even if i am able to it disconnects me after awhile or the internet doesnt work, i have had this problem in several different locations where other computers work fine. My warranty has ran out so I'm not quite sure if anyone knows how to fix this.

my second problem is after reformatting my laptop my bluetooth device is gone. So i went on dells website to download the drivers. when i try to install it it says i need to connect it to my PC.

The Intel 2200bg is good hardware with really crappy drivers.

Try the newest drivers, certain drivers seem to work for certain people.

Another thing, go to the adapter settings in the Intel wireless ap, set the tx power to the notch just below the max. This seems to fix a lot of problems on this card. The transmit power control isn't reliable on these cards. They tend to keep dropping tx power until they lose connection.

I used a 2200bg and was initially impressed with its range, replaced it with a 2915abg for 5ghz, both of these cards still had the tx power bug. After a time, I noticed the cards just dropping speeds or losing the connection entirely.

I finally replaced my 2915 with a Winstron CM9 Atheros based mini PCI card. Never looked back. I get better receive and more transmit power than the Intel cards.

yea iwas considering buying a pci card to replace the internal one but i dont like the idea of having sticking out, and i havent used this laptop that much so i dont think its right that i should be spending money on it already. thx for the tip though i'l'l try out the power tweak suggestion i already have the latest drivers

double post... stupid card did the disconnect thing again

the CM9 is internal, mini PCI, $49. Might find it cheaper as well.
