Which would be better for me. I want to start off smaller, then upgrade to a quad 1 to 2 years down the road, but i want this one to OC resonable well, and would i notice a real world differance in the 2MB and 4 MB cache? Thanks for the help!

6-7 fps in games @ low res. with the extra 2mb cache. = 2-300 mhz?

get the e6600 . not much more then the E6420 and E6600 has hit way higher clock speeds. My personal opinion.

Unless you plan on getting a Quad core in Q3
eg: Q6600 8mb cache $250> half the price which it is now.

9x multiplier and 2mb cache on the 4300, 8x and 4mb cache on the 6420. What kind of ram are you getting? Since 1:1 fsb:ram ratio is the way to go, say you have ddr2-800, you are looing at 400x9 vs 400x8. It is probably not possible to hit 3.6ghz on stock cooler, so if you went with the 4300, you will need more money for a better cooler, or you will probably have to run it at 400x8, which means you might be better off getting the 6420 and having 4mb cache.

Is it possible to get a good overclock on the e4300 without doing the pin mod?

The pin mod is what would be considered a "low" or crappy overclock. The pin mod is for computers with crappy motherboards that will not allow your to change FSB in BIOS, and will basically change your e4300 from 800MHz to 1066MHz, effecttively putting it at 2.4GHz. I have yet to see an E4300 with a flexible overclocking motherboards that will not go above this. In fact most will do 3.0GHz on air and stock or very close to stock voltage. When I was on air my E4300 was doing 3.1GHz at only 1.25V and air cooling, it is at 3.4GHz now with water.

I think some DDR2-800 Gskill, 4-4-4-12, that with an ASUS P5B Deluxe, OCZ 600W PSU, all in an Antec 900 (if thats any indication, i would like to stay with air cooling ;) ) And i will probly end up getting a new HSF, but I don't know yet, I would like to see what i can do with out one first. Thanks for the replies, still don't know though, would the 6600 be worth the extra $40?

I got one of those DS3 rev 3.3 that doesnt like E4300 and has that cold boot issue after a certain fsb.... ( 340ish or higher )

I can run 3ghz all day, but there's an fsb wall....

Anyways, if I did the pin mod, would I be able to bypass this?
