158.18 Official Betas Vista Only

I take it by your reaction you do not believe what i wrote. Well all i can say is when i ran the stress test before these drivers i got around 197 fps and after installing these drivers i get around 240 fps. ;)

I think the rolleyes was for that game, as you're getting so many fps anyways it doesn't really matter for the increase. But I could be wrong.

Well this bodes well...

I decided to upgrade my drivers today:

Ran the installer, it told me it needed to remove the previous drivers and reboot - which it did seemingly without issue. Rebooted and went through the driver installation on it's own. Final reboot and it BSODs

Rebooted again and aside from booting up in 800x600 resolution everything seems fine. Wonder if I'll get another BSOD if I reboot.

That does make sense and if it was meant in that way then I apologize for being a bit too sensitive. :) I do tend to agree that going from 200 to 240 fps is more than likely not noticeable by the human eye (well mine anyway) but I just wanted to post that at least for me I did see a big increase in frame rate with the new drivers albeit on an “older” game.

Offtopic:
Any test for which such high 'framerates' are reported is really a meaningless result. That'd be the reason for the rolleyes. If the application (or test) being run doesn't even begin to tax the capabilities of your hardware then for that application (or test) "More than good enough" can't meaningfully be improved upon.

And, although many people assume that improved results for such tests will equate to more performance where it can actually make a meaningful difference, that isn't necessarily the case. Different high-end hardware can have equivalent performance when the latest in software technology pushes capabilities to the limit, yet give widely varying results when older and less taxing software technology puts it to work. It's sorta almost like having your car engine idling at a different speed. Doesn't make any difference to how fast your car can go when you put it in gear and take off, does it?

On-topic:
The suggestion about re-downloading is a good one. Trying that now, to see if I get better results. I had these drivers operating when I first installed them, albeit at 1280x1024 with the monitor reported as 'Unknown non-Plug and Play' and screen resolution settings changes not sticking. Following numerous uninstall/reinstalls, reboots and whatnot the things wouldn't even work at all for me, and began to cause blackscreens every time I installed them, no matter what. I don't think it was a corrupted download, but it's worth a try to find out.

Ontopic:

I've tried heaps to get this thing going or to resolve the situation, without success.
  • Redownloading didn't help.
  • Uninstalling/reinstalling numerous times didn't help.
  • Using a modified .INF and then trying to manually update the driver didn't help, because Vista reported that the driver was already up to date.
  • No matter what I do my Monitor is still reported as 'Generic non-Plug and Play' even after rolling back the driver, although I can successfully get my native screen resolution back.

So how do I manually force the monitor driver to install? What do I need to change in this to get it to install in Vista? Can it even be made to install in Vista?

Any help would be appreciated.

First BSOD (x2 now) on Vista, with these drivers since Vista went gold in November.

Followed the Install/uninstall instructions to a 'T'. In fact, this is very similar to how I normally install, minus the second install and replace with a safe mode uninstall before finally installing is normal operating procedure for me..

Unsure if I'm going to try and re-install these again or if I'll rollback to the 101.70. There seems to be plenty of ppl on both sides of the fence; those who think these drivers are going in a good direction and those who have stability/resolution problems with these drivers.

I'm still using the 79 series, so these may be selective quality for 80 series.

Also, still get tearing in some games, still get screen/pixel flickering and still receiving the TDR error (The display driver has stopped responding and has restarted) --which Nvidia has acknowledged they are working on solving, little by little.

Ended up having to revert back to the old drivers. It did the thing were it went to 1280x1024 again and wouldn't go to my higher 1920x1080 resolution. :(

Nvidia.. if you are reading this, L2makedriverslolbbqplzkthxbye.

I Installed the 158.18 per Nvidia instructions, driver installed fine, but as I was playing Stalker (as soon as install and reboot was done) the game crashed and I had to reboot. Now my PC powers up but nothing comes up on the screen. I tried different monitors, and I cleared cmos but nothing changed. I am now stuck without a clue as to what to do!
My mobo (Fatal1ty An8 sli) POST code says 9.0 meaning "Complete uGuru initial process AWARD BIOS take over booting job."
I have absolutely no idea if it's the mobo, video card, or even processor...
Any help/ideas would be more than welcome...

Oh btw, ATHLON FX60, EVGA 7950GX2, 4GB DDR 400

same old story on my xfx 8600gts with 158.18

Still getting the TDR error, The display driver has stopped responding and has restarted.

My screen flashes black and/or games lockup, and I have to wait for the error to work its course before I can get back to enjoing my games.

I'm just extremely dissapointed with Nvidia. For years I've liked their products more then competitors, partially because of strong drivers. But Vista and Nvidia have been a nightmare for me, and 2 seperate brand new glorious core 2 duo rigs are unstable as ever thanks to Nvidias lousy current QA/engineer team. *end rant*
